- Growing up in the beautiful but rugged Texas Hill Country helped form the man and the politician Lyndon Johnson would become. He learned about hard economic times, the value of education, and got his first taste of politics. In this biographical video, you will learn about the Johnson family, the political journey of LBJ, and his whirlwind romance with Claudia Alta "Lady Bird" Taylor.
As President, LBJ championed education, civil rights, the environment, the space program, and social programs -- all while grappling with an escalating war in Vietnam. In 1968, LBJ decided not to run for re-election, retiring to Texas. Lyndon Johnson died in 1973, two years after the opening of the LBJ Library.
At some point in the 60's, they began serving hot breakfast in elementary schools in America. I remember being so grateful for that because there was no food at home. That simple act of providing warm oatmeal and toast to small children is something I will never forget.

He wasn't perfect and made some mistakes but overall ,Kennedy was good , but Johnson was better, he was a great president and some have given Kennedy credit for Johnson's accomplishments. Maybe Kennedy would of done more, for our country, if he wasn't murdered, but it was Lyndon B Johnson who accomplished so much and was a great president , what didn't he do ? He did everything, he's the reason we have so many good things today in the country, that the garbage Rinos, today's GOP, who are a disgrace to the Party of Lincoln, are trying to strip away, things that are taken for granted. I really think it should be LBJ airport or Blvd and monuments, over Kennedy's, who again was good, but it was Johnson who deserved more of the praise and honor.

Like every president he made mistakes and I'm sure was dated with some view points, but overall , whatever he was, he did support Civil Rights and did so much good , Lyndon B Johnson, was one of our greatest presidents ever, second to no one, my grandmother had a large portrait of him in her house and waxed poetic about the good that this man, however flawed, did,he was a tremendous Public Servant and should be a model to today's politicians, credit should be given, to where credit is due .

While I was 4.5 years old when JFK was inaugurated, it is Lyndon Johnson who I have the really strong memories of as my first President.
I urge everyone to read the books on him, three and counting, by Robert Caro.

The posters" Kennedy wanted for treason" handed out in dallas on 11/22/63 were a declaration that a treasonous act had been committed and they delivered the punishment for treason, outside the courthouse at noon by firing squad... and Texas in those days was known for being the last place to stay under the old penal system and it was probably completely Legal what they did that day and probably changed the laws right after while they were busy with the Warren commission report... you want to understand what is so hard for the people to know or understand that it has to be kept secret for 75 years..is that everything they did that day to Kennedy was certified by the highest echelons of power and completely Legal especially under laws pertaining to treason at the time and their defense and defendants were the people who died in the Bay of pigs fiasco and he probably went with his heart instead of what was standard protocol for providing air support for the troops and then he pulled out at the last minute when it was too late to save lives of the troops but not too late to save the lives of the many that would have been lost in the war that the generals and military weapons manufacturing companies had cooked up in the next round..but these documents will be made public and will join the many truths about the country that have become part of a not so perfect history
I am a huge fan of Lyndon B. Jonshon after Abraham Lincoln, he works so hard than any other president. LBJ should have been nominee from the Democrat in 1960 rather than JF Kennedy. Well JF Kenedy gained popularity due to media, youthful, and father's money (I Like JF Kennedy) but LBJ knows the government and congress much more than anyone at that time. US universities became popular and influential due to his legislature. Indeed he passed most bills than any other president in the US histrory.

Lyndon Johnson was way ahead of his time. Now that we face a global economy, we need a Great Society to compete. Back then, the only things we imported were bananas, tea, and coffee! We cannot compete with a shrinking middle class, thanks to Reaganomics, in which so many of our citizens face severe underemployment (like me) in McJobs!
Reagan’s economic policies actually created the largest expansion of the economy in United States history. Also the middle class didn’t shrink, sure the gap between the middle and higher classes got wider but everyone was better off over all

Its sad but we keep voting for Obama type liberals who would love nothing more than a single society, consumer based and communist controlled freedom. We got to continue to vote for real people willing to do what we elect them for, trump 2024.
But, I thought Reaganomics was tightening the financial belt, lower taxes, do more with less, stop over spending, balance that budget, and increase production.

"America(My Country, Tis of Thee)" is old an American patriotic song that uses the same melody as UK's natl anthem, "God Save the Queen."
This is the version more familiar to Americans. I remember hearing England's national anthem at the Olympics & thought to myself.. "Why are they playing My 'Tis of Thee?!" I thought the sound man was trolling haha

i do not and cannot explain how good it makes us feel when u see a person becoming a president.....that itself is an achievement .
To be honest I always think Johnson suffers to much to posterity because of comparisons to Kennedy. But I never know why, because Kennedy was actually more of a war monger than Lyndon (see his handling of Cuban missile crisis) and was the first president to authorise large scale military presence in Vietnam. In fact, Johnson carried on the policy and committed more troops because he viewed it as doing what Kennedy would have done. Which I think he would, had he not been assassinated. I also don't think Kennedy would have done half the big societal changes and 'war on poverty' that Johnson did. But I do agree, Vietnam is a big elephant in the room on his time as president.

You are right, Kennedy was good, but Johnson was great , it was he that should of gotten the praise, the naming of airports, Blvd's and monuments before JFK, who I don't think would of been any better, perhaps his brother the great Edward Kennedy, would've deserved more praise, they should rectify that and give credit to where credit is due.
The more you read up on him, the less you like.

I am Vietnamese American, and I believe that President Johnson is one of the greatest presidents in American history. No one man has down more than President Johnson to eliminate the social inequality and racial disparities in America.

Really Frere? JFK was the one who sent the advisers into Vietnam. When asked later, (and you can find it on video), Bobby Kennedy was asked if his brother would have pulled out. Bobby replied with an emphatic no. And because he didnt want nukes in Cuba, Kennedy pushed us to the brink of World War 3 in confronting the Russians. Kennedy also disastrously invaded Cuba at the Bay of Pigs. For someone who wanted less war, Kennedy sure was good at precipitating them.

That's not a fair comparison for President Obama. LBJ had far more experience in Congress and had a real talent when it came to politics. He was truly one of a kind. President is Obama is doing the best he can for the American people and is doing a fine job on the road to recovery.

Say what you will but I think he was a great president. I was only yrs old in Nov 63 and a Canadian so I only know what I know through the history pages. It was not always favorable,but I formed my opinion and stick by it. So for now I'm going to have a Cutty Sark and watch some more You Tube !

LBJ is living proof that hubris ends badly in real life as well as Greek tragedy. Did he have a genuine concern for the less fortunate? Probably, but it was coupled with a Texas-sized ego which said that federal programs could cure all ills. And yet many of these programs backfired badly in terms of seeing black illegitamacy rates skyrocket after having been low throughout Reconstruction and Jim Crow. Who needed a father to provide for children when the government would do it for you? Telling any people group in any color wrapper that someone else is responsible for your actions, and that you can get sympathy and all your needs met by claiming victimhood is a poison that corrodes initiative, responsibility, and self-respect. Vietnam? Another example of LBJ's hubris. He believed that he and RS McNamara could micro-manage the war from a cozy briefing room in DC. "Them boys cain't bomb as outhouse over there without I say so." End result: A betrayal of the US servicemen who fought and died there, as well as a betrayal of the SE Asians who were ultimately left at the mercy of the victorious communists, who in turn celebrated their victory by slaughtering SE Asians by the millions. "Best president ever?" Stuff and nonsense.

Will you stop moving the camera toward still photographs so that we cannot see the whole photograph. It is the stupidist thing in the world for you to do;it accomplishes nothing. Why don't you just show the viewer a still photo so that the viewer is permitted to see it? It would be one thing if there were 100 people in a photo and you wanted to show just one of the people. But you do it when it is much more interesting to see Johnson with the other people in the photo, than it is to see only him. Under his presidency 36 000 of the 58 000 American troops died in Vietnam. It was his idea to go into Vietnam. He wasnt even president when Armstrong landed on the moon . Of all the presidents in the last 60 years he has to have been the biggest failure.
As your 2 daughters have gotten married and had families I wonder about all those young men who gave their lives for a president who should have remained working in Youth Administration and out of politics.
