Hi Chris. I pray your wife is ok and the cut wasn’t bad. I had to laugh when you made the comment about the pile of “leaves”. You know I love ya… but that had me laughing, which I really needed today. As always, I’m so thankful for your great (and real) content. ❤🙏🏻😊
I have a plucker. I have tried it once so far. I have around a dozen to process myself but I will have to try the shrink bags. I have been using the vacuum seal method but I like the idea of using the shrink wrap method.
Thank you for showing the process, I may consider meat chickens. I had been leery of the process, especially plucking the feathers. I hope your wife is OK, I have done that more than a few times dispatching rabbits. Maybe you should have edited that part out. 😱
I am completely in for all DIY! So dont take this wrong. I was able to tractor I think 20? 25? Broiler meat chicken. Had a good life in tractor moving 1 or 2 times a day. Fermented the feed and such. Found an Amish lady then I think was $1.50 a bird to clean them. After that process fee and feed with no labor included for me, thought it ended up $1.29lb. About same as grocery store at the time. IDK your location but that could also be an option possibly. Without a plucker it would of took me most of a day to do it and figure that in I was happy to pay $1.50 a bird to drop off and come back next day bagged and in my coolers to pick up. If it was 25 birds, I paid $37.50 to have the day off free! Just something else to possible think about. Just do it. Like maybe 6. possible losing one or 2. Cleaning with no plucker like 6 or less is not that bad and good fun to learn if nothing else.
Great timing, as we are just getting ready to process our remaining 8 Cornish Cross! You give some good tips (as usual) that we may just put into play! Question for you, You put your processed birds on ice in shrink wrap bags for several days. We have a spare fridge with room. Any reason we can't shrink wrap the birds and just put them in the fridge for several days (not the freezer)?
Out of curiosity, would the chicken plucker serve dual purpose and work on the quail too? Did ya happen to try it on them too? I know they make separate units for quail, but I like the idea of the one product working for both due to the expense if its possible.
lol I actually did a 25 pound turkey in a yard bird plucker last nov it did work but the darn bird got stuck in it thought I was going to have to cut the wings off to get it out

Good job. You mentioned it as an 'assembly line' set up. I might suggest it's more of a 'dis-assembly' line, yeh?
Well how is your wife
