Client: I wore this prom dress 7 years ago. Can you revamp it so I can wear it again?

- This was fun. Client wanted to wear her prom dress that she wore 7 years ago to an event and so asked if I could revamp her dress.
I will be uploading a video with a little more in depth detail on what I did for those who like details.
A million times better. That too light nude netting above the bodice was awful; I’m so glad you cut it off. I don’t know if it was strong enough to hold up her big bustline, but certainly looked better without that.
Or I was hoping that a color match with her skin tone would happen, but that would be very expensive I would imagine.
💯 The new neckline made the netting stand out less, so the color look intentionally white instead of weirdly ashy. I'm in the "after was better" camp

Oh, she looks cute! I love that she just wanted her old dress to have new life. I think it lost a li'l boob shaping magic in the cups because it was strapless, but the client wants what the client wants and she still looked gorgeous. Seamless revamp!
That is awesome. I like how it went from beautiful prom dress to something older and sexier,, but it looks so gorgeous. The corset back turned out amazing... I love the leg split. Such a good idea, so much fun. Well done 👏 ✔️ 👍
I love that the dress “grew up”, just like your client. You took it from a teenager’s dress to a grown woman’s dress and it’s beautiful!
I love it when people revamp their old outfits. Good for the environment, you don't splurge for a new dress that you might need alteration anyway & you might only wear it once, plus, you wouldn't find anyone else wearing the same dress. The revamped dress is beautiful.
I've never, ever felt secure enough to wear a strapless dress. I want more than wishes, prayers, and boning to keep me covered. I would have wanted a narrow, red strap--just in case gravity did its worst. You have mad skills to be able to do this.
It's nice this woman has confidence. I think it is something to aspire to. Many of us spend so much of our lives worrying we never realise how good our body shape was and how we could try things. I say this as some one who has done that herself. I look back at photos and think.. what were you thinking! You could have worn anything! Confidence is inside.

Gorgeously done! I think she would have benfitted from a little more support with an off the shoulder or swag sleeve to draw the eyes, but that's a personal choice. As a larger busted lady myself that "life has happened" to (lol) Im impressed she had confidence to pull off a strapless. You go girl... id be scared and hiking that up every few seconds. 🤦♀️
The red extension in the back looked original, integrated perfectly, so lovely❣️
That's a fantastic idea by the client and I love the more mature version of the dress!
So stunning! I had initially assumed the client would have wanted you to replace the mesh with something better matching her skin tone, but once you removed everything above the sweetheart neckline it became way less noticeable. Good on her for wanting to reuse her old dress, I hope the adjustability of the lace up back means she can use it for many years to come!
Beautiful again. And I love to see an existing dress remodelled instead of a cheap fast fashion one. ❤

If she had wanted, was there a way you could have darkened the lining and/or mesh some how so it would match her skin tone better?
The way the dress was designed no. And the client was fine with the dress color as is.
I prefer the original style, but I'm not a fan of big blocks of skin or fabric. Plus the strap would help hold the ladies and dress in place.
It looks fabulous! It's now an adult dress!
Loved the idea of revamping this beautiful dress. You made magic once again. Favourite part is the leg slit. I think it adds so much more life to this particular dress. If it were me in that dress I would pretend kicking balls in front of a mirror and just watch the red fabric move all day 😂😂😂

Time and time again, you dazzle us with your needle mastery. Whenever I watch your videos I wish there was some way you could pass on your knowledge to the next generation. Back in my day, girls’ education included sewing and before that everybody’s granny knew how to whip something up out of flour sacks. Black women today still desire to be beautifully dressed but you are the rare Black American needle artist. I applaud you.

I was thinking the same thing. Client has a more womanly bustline and could benefit from uplift from shoulder straps like in the original dress.

Loved the back and the slit.
A thin strap in front either around neck or over shoulders to hold it would have made it perfect.
You did beautifully as always however I would be concerned about “the girls” losing their place in the corset. I would feel way too exposed in it and my “gifts” aren’t quite as significant as hers. It’s definitely a beautiful dress for sure.
Her client seems to have grown into a confident woman. I like to see confidence and happiness with her body. We dont stay teens for ever. I assume the bone structure to the bodice works to give structure and security to her breasts. It is a really good upcycle modification.

You’re amazing. The one thing I’d have recommended to her was to remove some of the chiffon from the front bottom and create a lovely, soft halter neckline so the bustllne doesn’t look droopy. The boning definitely kept it up, but the halter strap would’ve enhanced the continuity and elegance while keeping the sweetheart look.
