Just a side note. The winch on Sally has a "free spool" switch on the side. It's the black plastic that looks like an end cap on the drivers side of the winch. If you turn it you can pull the cable out without using the toggle or "power out" on the cable. It will save your electrical system, your batteries and your time.

Oh my gosh... number one pet peeve is Facebook ads that drive the content we see. Sometimes I can't find content that I have posted. Content that originated with me. Because the algorithm doesn't rank my own posts high enough. So frustrating.

I deleted FB because I was sick and tired of having FB opinions, shoved down my throat every day. I didn't go on there to have politics or ads thrown at me, I went on there to keep up with family and friends, but that became virtually impossible as FB dictated what it deemed necessary for you to see. I cannot wait for your platform to go live!

Your hike up the mountain reminded me of when we went hiking up a mountain near us to the spring every year in the late Winter. That time of year our grass is green and more chances of a running spring were possible. That was always a treat because in California springs like that are rare.

My #1 struggle with Facebook this year has been attracting a regulator from Dept. of Ag. I have sold meat, eggs and produce for years and connected with customers through a farm page on Facebook. I'd say 10 years or more it's been fine. This year a regulator showed up and said I need inspected before I can sell any more produce. #2 for me would be no livestock sales. #3 would be censorship.

Howdy neighbors. I grew up on a homestead on family land near Mt. Pisgah. Our property was in a small holler of which half encompassed a section of "Spring Mountain". So, you can imagine how many natural springs where located there. Our well house was an old barrel of some type. I do remember sand being in the bottom, but that was it. I don't think it was ever tested and must have provided water to owners for decades. I don't recall ever being sick from it. It was really good water.

That would be amazing to be able to purchase animals from a central location, by state, by species, by breed, with rearing practices and feeding practices displayed, and it may get really weird when looking for milker cows or goats as they can have tags like champion and grand champion, graded milk for more digestibility, fat content measurements, etc. And then the animals used for meat and if they are grain or pasture raised. This would be the farmers' amazon!

I used to watch UA-cam guy named aqua jigger well it's something like that. He would find places I need to start digging them and they would sometimes turn out to be caves and he would dig them out. Ooh that'd be some pretty water in them caves, but he went to as far back in this particular case he could get into and he saw that the raccoons had been there. He looked in the camera and said this water would kill you if you drink it. So just because water is springing from a rock doesn't mean they in a cave somewhere in a raccoon is playing in it. There was another water story these people were digging gold and Alaska and they were getting this runoff water they thought it was mountain water. They had to rush their youngest to the hospital she nearly died he went back to see where that water came from it did not come from the ground it was surface water, and they had been logging that area and there was all kinds of petrol products on the ground and in the water stream. Always be careful. Just because it looks innocent doesn't mean ,it doesn't have a nasty bite.

    • @MimiGardens

Here in Minnesota there are businesses that are called meat lockers that will butcher, cut up (they will ask you how you want the animal cut up) and wrap and freeze your animal down to 0 degrees. There are a lot fewer of them because of all the FDA regulations that are too expensive for them to do. They usually switch over to deer and bears during hunting season so you have to be careful when you want your animal butchered. They will cure and smoke the meat also. We have had our pigs butchered this way several times. You get your own animal back as processed meat also. Bigger places don't always give your own animal back! I hope this helps.

They should have their licenses pulled for violating their own terms. But I’m a free speech and free market advocate so I simply closed my FB account years ago. I'm very private and never learned to do FB well. Now I'm a newly retired and new land owner and hoping to connect up with community here in the Finger Lakes area in Upstate NY. This is a great place to start and make a habit of connecting. Please make it easy for us technically phobic people. ;)

I’m excited about the online community because I don’t have Facebook anymore and we are moving to our new house with land in December! The ability to buy and sell sounds great! It’ll be nice to maybe try some types of food we have never tried before we try to grow it.

Great Video. Wow won't that be so great to have second source of water and have second water source for the animals also. Nice hike with you all. Lance was a very informative person about water. It was very interesting to me. I'd love for another way to interact with the community. Peace from WV

Too much stuff I don't want to see. I see tons of posts from people with whom I went to high school, but haven't seen since. WHY? I see some of my family, but not others. Some of my family moved to MAGA platforms when #45 lost the election and they thought he'd been done wrong - and I don't see them anymore. The people I want to see and speak with aren't on FB anymore. What I'd love to see is the opportunity to barter goods for services, or a place where we can go for help and support. For instance, I really could use a plumber - but I don't know of one locally. I'd hire one from A+ because character counts there.

Biggest issue with FB...the harvest of information and continual changes in privacy rules. Also, the censoring (of course).

I have used Facebook marketplace a lot. The thing that annoys me most is the "algorithm", and forced seller ads. If I want only local offers, I have to set filters, and then I still end up with items that can only be shipped.
The algorithm tends to show me a bunch of what I last looked for, or items that I opened. I guess that's helpful to an extent, but the next time I'm on and want to browse a category, I dont want multiple ads of the same thing. Example: 1 week I searched for chicken coop supplies, and now my feed is full of those items 3 months later with random ship only new items. When I'd like to browse all local farm items. I hope this explains that well.
The other issue with Facebook in general is their data collection and sharing. I cant scroll through my personal feed without seeing ads for items I searched for on Amazon, or other internet sites. It's very unnerving to have my morning coffee and have a discussion about needing say a new fishing pole, and log into fb, and have ads for poles all week! Very creepy!

My complaint about social media is the lack of privacy, labels (homesteading and prepping are weird/bad/selfish etc.), mining my habits for data to sell to third parties so they can target me with advertising, collecting my data and storing it, lack of freedom of speech, lack of civil discourse on things we disagree on (shaming and name calling instead), and engineering an agenda into my life.

I don't do FB. I never will. I am not a farmer but I want to start some backyard chickens or maybe quail and I would want local people for advice - someone to ask about it. I would also love to have a non-FB place to easily contact farmers to see what they have for sale especially off-season.

Biggest struggle with facebook? Dealing with misinformation and people posting conspiracy theories. I'm a big fan of facts over opinions and I have little patience after the last few years of people thinking their opinions are as important as actual facts. Would love to be able to flag posts I come across as not factual. The faster one squashes a conspiracy theory the better for everyone.

4f main problems with Facebook etc:
    - ads
    - no chronological order of posts
    - stupid stories etc. - pointless
    - forced and impossible to turn off things like covid alert/survey, stupid suggestions etc.

If you decide you want to use the spring, and the head is on neighbor's land, consider buying an easement from the owner for water rights to the spring.

Great climb Justin, I envy you now, as I'm unable to do that anymore, you've really come along with your healing, prayers 🙏 answered.
FB, Well, where do I start 🤔, I have to physically, go to my friends pages just to see their content, because of ALL, the junk that's on there. A+, is one group I read regularly and some other ones as well. Its just getting too, commercialized and everything is sensered. So, it's like, why bother.
A KIDS, Platform on A+, would be super cool, it would help kids in the community see what other kids are doing. Just a thought.
