Is it possible to set-up VLAN port/s so it only recognises approved MAC addresses? For example if I’ve got two security camera’s can I whitelist MAC addresses for those devices on port 1 & 2 so no other devices can join the network?
I'm still very new to this. If you set the Vlan to separate CCTV network and your Laptop connection. Do they both have still have access to the internet?
That’s correct, both will have access to the Internet. Main point of VLAN is to divide traffic by setting up different ports for different devices on the switch. For example if someone removed Ethernet cable from security camera and tried to connect a laptop to it, it wouldn’t work as that VLAN has been set-up for security camera devices only and not for PC/Laptop devices. Hope that makes sense? 😅
Great
What if you have wireless cameras?
Wireless cameras connect to a router which connects to the switch port where the VLAN is associated. Got it?
