Hearing Matt say it takes about an hour to get the flow of a conversation going with someone makes me realize how infinitely long it has been since I had a real conversation with anyone.
What I really appreciate about Matt and Trent is that they’re deeply devout Catholic men whose faith informs every part of who they are but at the same time they’re just cool, well-adjusted, normal guys that I feel I could relate to. All too often whenever I meet truly “devout” Catholics I mostly encounter awkward, sheltered weirdos that are almost allergic to engaging with the culture in any substantive, nuanced and engaging way. Thanks guys!
Fear....
Please be compassionate to the weirdos. We're usually weirdos regardless of which religion we belong to (and usually know we're weird, and usually have a hard time figuring out how not to be). If anything, weirdos become less weird after converting to Catholicism, because the Catholic faith has moderating mechanisms for helping us become more balanced and better integrated over time. But it can take time, and in the meantime it's better for our weirdo souls to be inside the Catholic Church than out of it.
Definitely do encourage non-weirdo people to be more devout too, though! I agree that it's encouraging (and dare I say, helpful for weirdos like me) to see non-weird examples of what it looks like to be devout. For those of us who have no pre-existing notion of what "well-adjusted" looks like, because we come from genuinely maladjusted backgrounds and often have no decent examples of what it looks like to simultaneously follow Christ, and not be weird, it's honestly a lifeline when the conventionally well-adjusted people let their Catholicism be visible too. Gives some small example of what we might model ourselves after, in a world where it can sometimes seem like the choice is between "Christian and weird" or "NonChristian and 'normal'".
I hope you offer that well-adjusted while devout example to the weirdos around you! And are gentle with the weirdos in the meantime, recognizing they probably find it more of a cross to actually _be_ the weird one, than you find it a cross to be around them.
But how do you define weirdo? It's just a human standard. I could perceive someone as strange or weird but they could be better as Catholics than Iam. Some of us are wired to detach from worldy concerns and always not a bad thing, although it may seem weird and reclusive. Just my thoughts.
You are being too harsh on devout Catholics
Jesus Christ would be considered weird in our time though
Wanting to detach from worldly desires is not necessarily a bad thing
Catholicism is also about sacrifice
@@crossbearer6453 I don't think any of us are saying we shouldn't be devout etc. The key question is whether true devoutness _necessarily_ manifests in a way that makes others cringe, not just curious. I don't think Jesus is described in the way that people mean by "weird", here. Utterly unique such that those who encountered him knew they were encountering something different? Yes. But they weren't cringing at him for acting awkward. They were either trying to stone him to death, or falling at his feet in worship, or walking away sad because their heart knew his words were true but they couldn't bring themselves to follow him. These are responses to a person polarizing in a unique way... but not responses to a cringey/awkward/weird person. It's not actually that unique to be cringey/awkward/weird, and like I mentioned in my original comment, many of us acted similarly weird before entering the Church. Maybe those of us for whom that's true are more aware than others that 'Christ' isn't the real reason for our awkwardness, even if our awkwardness now manifests in a way that also involves Christ.
I think we can all imagine the difference between a truly holy and devout monk who doesn't also seem 'weird', and a truly holy and devout monk who also seems 'weird'. By 'weird' I think we're talking about the kind of excess in quirks that are due not to true humility or wisdom (etc) but rather to our natural inclinations and private judgments that we're unsuccessful in moderating or submitting to the authority of a competent spiritual director. The Church calls us to be all things to all people so as to bring them to Christ. I think this means I would be selfishly neglecting my duty to others, if I indulged my personal whims (including whims of attitude/self-expression) to the point of weirdness not only unnecessary to communicating the gospel, but possibly creating a barrier to others recognizing the gospel. And again, I'm saying this as someone who has often brought cringe to the world when I didn't want to. I'm honestly glad to hear from someone I respect that I don't have to stay cringe to be holy. I can learn to be holy in a way that others may then still reject rather than accept, sure -- but the rejection would be a rejection of Christ, not a rejection of the cringeworthy behaviour I distracted them with.
Matt’s Midwest accent “hey there!” around 15:30 is priceless.
I used to listed to it all the time when it was about, you know, Aquinas. Now I only tune into the Fr. Pine episodes. Really wish he'd get back to doing the one thing that made him popular. The thing included in the title of his show..
I will hope Matt will get back to making things Aquinas focused
That Jordan Peterson impression was on point lol
It’s Kermit the Frog as a therapist. At least that’s the image I get when I listen to Jordan Peterson.
,😂😂😂😂
Go clean your room.
@@EpoRose1 Yeah, that's pretty much "Step One" for imitating JBP.
"Step Two" is put the Angry-O-Meter up to 12 (out of 15).
"Step Three" is (and this is a fairly recent development) is to *sound* very authoritative while talking about things you don't really know a whole lot about.
And, of course, "Step Four" is Profit.
Nothing against Trent, but if you think that was good, you should watch the Pints with Aquinas episode where Seamus Coughlin does the JP impression, it could be JP if you weren't actually seeing that it's Seamus doing the impression it's that good. If you do watch it, it's at 2hrs 12mins and 30secs into that podcast...
I love Matt and I listen to him from time to time but I enjoy your podcast more Trent... to the point and well thought out and always interesting... Keep it up! Blessings from Argentina!
I want to see a buddy cop movie with Matt Fradd and Trent Horn
I remember the first few Pints With Aquinas episodes. They were great! I was hooked.
Joe Rogan is just the secular Matt Fradd.
Matt: “Trent, you’re in my studio?!” Trent: “Too bad YOU, will be interviewed.”
Joe Rogan was raised Catholic. He was one of the 99% of Catholics that have no idea anything of their faith. And therefore he turned Agnostic, however I think he’d be open to the Catholic faith again if someone can present him a good case. Since he obviously doesn’t want to research for himself
12:01, I have to say that matt does a very good job at this. As a young catholic living in the UK in a non-urban area, its sometimes really exhausting not being able to have contact with catholicism. Props to Matt, God bless his soul.
Hello, what part of the UK are you? I live in Doncaster
PWA and the long form interviews are some of my favorite Catholic content on UA-cam. It's so awesome to get some organic deep dives into different types of Catholics and different subjects. Sometimes the guests are a "miss" but that's bound to happen with any show with this many guests/episodes.
I'm so glad you did this! The Aquinas Return is one of my favorite channels!
2:30 "I hung up on him because it's a terrible idea and I haven't spoken to him since"
Lmao overkill
I have so much good memories with the early PWA. I could still remember the opening: If you could sit down with the Angelic Doctor and ask him one question, what would it be?
I've learned so much about the faith from this channel. Thank you so much to PWA
I remember getting into charitable debates with Angelic doctor. Who exactly are they?
@@tony1685 you mean no catholic interpreted these verses like how you prefer them to mean. if that is the case, then no Catholic will actually fit your personal standard.
@@tony1685 I don't understand how this is irreconcilable?
@@tony1685 no. You left Catholicism to join a cult. Whites prophecy of Jesus second coming failed.
@@tony1685 what date is it now?
feels weird seeing a CoT video in the PwA studio, and with Matt himself for that matter
It's because Matt, invited Trent, for some talks on pints has he was there he decided better to have Matt, as a guest on his show in the pints studio rather than making future appointments, on the availability of Matt,
PwA is my all time favorite podcast and one of the very few I support on a regular basis. I have learned so much about the faith, culture, literature from him and his eclectic mix of guests. It has enriched my life immeasurably and I hope he continues with these long-form discussions.
I didn't know about the channel, thx for the ref
LOVE long form discussions
Two of my favourite "podcasters" in one show! Thank you for the knowledge you impart, the inspiration you give, the motivation you provide and the way you provoke thought. May God continue to bless you both and the work you do.
Small thing but as a British-Australian I love the fact that it's 'pints', as opposed to any of the other metrics.
i remember every tuesday was pints with aquinas new podcast episode release..a day after word on fire show and was always excited to listen to it..for me, the best episode of pints would still be the "how to live an order" life with father ryan mann
You both bless my life so much
Matt/Joe Rogan would be a good cross-over episode
No! Not the potty mouth guy!
@@marybeth1747 on Joe's show of course. Joe wouldn't be suitable for Pints. Although, Joe is redpilled on the Porn Question.
I love this! 😁
I’m taking two points from this. The Australian accent thing is ok because of something Slavoj Žižek alludes too: essentially small offenses to friends let us break down barriers and build closeness. I think that’s why it worked here
Second, this was content that PWA sort of needed. It let Matt take a different angle, and that perspective of him is a bit of refreshment his channel sort of needs
One of the things I like about Matt is that he really engages in conversation. His followups are natural and he seems genuinely interested in other people.
The Aquinas Return sounded like a great idea.
Steubenville reminds me of Oil City, PA. That's another place to invest, especially Catholics. Save St. Stephen's Church. : )
Awesome!
That is an amazing thumbnail though.
Love the thumbnail
I watch both of these guys & love their shows, yet I’m not a practicing Catholic. It’s odd. I guess I find them soothing
we have a long history of conversation I think.
Peter Kreeft does answer in sound bites. I noticed that in the previous interview
Wait! Isn’t that Laura Horn’s husband?! 😎
Considering the fact that he calls Neil "Catholic Jaime" I think he is lol
Love this random videos. This is what Capturing Christianity also did.
I’ve wanted to start a podcast or something for years now. I really enjoy the visual arts and related stuff like movies and video games. I also enjoy talking about Thomas Sowell and philosophy. However I’m just a dilettante really and I’m not deeply knowledgeable about anything in particular. Additionally I’m not sure exactly how such topics would lend themselves to podcasts without showing images of the art or visuals being discussed. Any advice from podcasters out here?
Hey Trent, could you do a video addressing your audience/opponents? I think there's a cloud of dissenters following in the comments from previous debates, which should be addressed
I think a more important question might be: "Is Joe Rogan the pro-abortion Matt Fradd?".
I think the shows have more in common than the men, but I could be wrong. I pray Mr. Rogan sees sense before it is too late, he's in a great position to do great service to the truth.
Rogan is more than just "pro-abortion". Now, I don't remember exactly which episodes he's said it in, but he has more than once (well, unless I was just listening to the same episode over and over again...) said that although he was raised semi-Catholic, he's turned his back on that whole thing. *Maybe* open to the idea of there being some "higher power", but - as far as I can remember, I haven't listened to him since he Spotified - is pretty dismissive of that idea, too. And I'm sure he's downright hostile to the idea of having some organization around any idea of "higher power".
So calling Rogan "pro-abortion Fradd" is really ignoring all the other un-Christian things he's said. And possibly done, as well.
This is blowing up on Twitter (and for good reason)
Love Matt. Haters gonna hate.
I thought the title said, "Is Matt Fradd the "Catholic Joe Biden."
It's not stealing, it's sharing.
Matt, I'd like to get your opinion of what'the best brew in the world is, which, obviously, is Kona Castaway.
Seriously though. Come to New Zealand and ask Jennifer for me from Evangelion or Thinking Matters. I will get you a debate with an atheist and a protestant in all 7 universities across New Zealand across one week. And I will get you set up in presbyteries for spiritual refreshment between sessions. Looking forward to Tim Staples in October.
This exclusive interview doesn't appear on PWA
"John Paul is II" ... That's gold, polish ppl will love him ^^
Steubenville, "Where people wear pajamas to Kroegers."
The answer is YES. PWA is one of my newest fave channels, Catholic or otherwise. Though the last Cassman-Dimond debate may have been a mistake, definitely a hot mess.
Not bad on the JP impression but needs more Kermit the Frog in it.
awsome
7:45 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao these guys are such dorks. Love em
“….felt like you and me talking” NOT “you and I”
The answer is yes.
Australian here. Is Steubenville in Ohio?
Yes
12:56
So instead of DMT he ask have you ever drank a pint of wine?
Topic: English royalty from a Catholic perspective. Will there be a Catholic king? Queen?
My show summary: Yes, he is.
I think the Australian guy is funny, I should check him out
I mean, his thumbnails are identical to Rogans lol.
PWA just got even more famous with that debate the other day!
?
That was a hot mess that Fradd needs to clean up with a follow up.

Leaving Catholic Answers was the best decision of both
why is the Australia upside down
because north is a relative designation
Why is the USA in the center of the world in US atlases so that the Euro-Asian continent is split up? It depends on your perspective (literally).
Matt: I want to help people find equilibrium in a crazy world and chaotic Church... has debate between Sedevacantist and Papist causing massive amounts of chaos in the live chat and comment section.
Is he Joe Fradd or Matt Rogan?
Peter Kreeft speaks totally unlike how he writes. lol
If he reads it well, he'll be a stronger Catholic.
That wasn’t the best JBP impression 😂
Watching David Wood debate in a Muslim audience is exciting, lol.
Unfortunately Matt is very critical of Pope Francis - so in one sense he shares a form of Catholic bashing with Joe Rogan. Matt’s interview with Diane Montagna was as cringe as it gets.
Note that can. 1373 in the Church’s Code of Canon Law says:
“A person who publicly incites among subjects animosities or hatred against the Apostolic See or an ordinary because of some act of power or ecclesiastical ministry or provokes subjects to disobey them is to be punished by an interdict or other just penalties.”
So when is a bishop going to publicly ban Matt from communion
Yes Matt. I can attest to your rudeness reputation down here in New Zealand. And not even from mellow New Zealanders but from those of different cultures. I think you don't really like doing tours, talks or having fans, but really just like talking about theology with well articulated people. haha.
The answer is No. Sheamus Coughlin, creator of FreedomToons is The Catholic Joe Rogan. Sheamus is always interacting with secular, non-Catholics, and being cornered by them while streaming live. Sheamus defends the faith in real-time all the time.
Call me a liar.
Matt Fradd is not the Catholic Joe Rogan. Matt Fradd is the Catholic Charlie Rose.
Trent Horn is The Catholic Chuck Norris.
have alex jones on and we will see
he did
but Alex Jones looked awfully different in the interview
Like 🎰
Nah, I'd say Cameron Bertuzzi is the "Catholic Joe Rogan"
Can't wait for the Catholic Theo Von.
Is Trent catholic Shapiro?
A lot more culture war stuff which is a spiral
@CJ P. Culture war media is a dead end in the hands of most commentators because they fail to distinguish allies from poison, and have no understanding of strategy. I'd rather they sit it out then play the part of a useful fool. No victories have been won nor will be won by making friends with unrepentant sex traffickers or drug addicts.
@CJ P. We need warriors and we need craftsmen making the culture so there is something worth fighting for and to draw from. If there is no homeland, we have already lost and the Devil has won and we are enslaved to wrath, vanity, and pride or this as an idol.
Besides, after some point the fighting stops winning anything and just perpetuates itself as a cheap harsh knockoff of the culture it seeks to defend. It also deepens the temptation to hatred, and our Blessed Lord is very clear on what hatred is. It is must worse to lose your self let alone your soul than lose a culture war. We must fight, but we also must not lose out souls, humanity, or the Spirit of the Lord in the process.
Use the virtues and fight for your soul and for holiness and once you seek first God in your heart, all of this shall be added unto you. God is our strength and Heaven our victory, here below, we are just making our way, be happy with the station the Lord has granted you and do your task, but work out your salvation in Christ and through Christ, so you might do these things in the Spirit of God and through Christ for our Heavenly Father. The true cultural victory is this, to live in, through, and for the Lord and have Him as your only end and His Divine Will your goal.
Do this and no one can stand against you, don`t do this, and you are already in chains headed to the executioner.
@CJ P. Thank you for taking the time to read it and for being cordial.
God bless you, my brother in Christ, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in the Most Holy Name of Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Lord and Savior. Amen.
Invite Joe Rogan on your show! 😂
Thank God he didn't call it The Aquinas Return.....

🛳 HOW TO BE SAVED:
There Is only one God, in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. ONE God.
Humans are ONE person ( in three parts) The body, soul and spirit. Three parts, ONE person.
The Bible says that we are all sinners.
As it is written: There is none righteous , no not one. Romans 3:10
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.Romans 3:23
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6
For the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23 (The word death in this verse means eternal separation from God in hell).
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Isaiah 1:18
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that He was buried and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures. 1Corinthians 15:3-8
In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:14
For by grace ye are saved, through faith; and not of yourselves.
It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
I do not frustrate the grace of God, for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Galatians 2:21
If you would like to receive Jesus as your Savior. Realize that you are a hopeless sinner and tell Jesus that you trust in Him and only Him to save you from hell.
Your trust in Jesus and His shed blood on the cross to pay for your sins, is what saves you from hell.
The moment you trust in Jesus and only Jesus, you are saved.
Then, you should be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Joe Rogan is a baptized Catholic. It would be more accurate to say that Matt is the intelligent Joe Rogan.
I would disagree with you slightly because it's not just the Catholic baptism that makes you Catholic. It's about the beliefs, so someone could be baptized but now not actually be Catholic. Therefore it would still apply
@@angelalemos9811 I agree with your point, but baptism leaves an indelible mark on the soul and CANNOT be removed. Excommunication is dismissal from the Catholic Church and formal separation, but the mark of baptism doesn’t leave.
That doesn’t mean he’s practicing the faith or knows what the Church teaches.
Intelligent because you agree with him, that's the true Trumpist way of "thinking"
Oh, maybe that explains Joe’s anger and antagonism toward the Church, I always wondered what that was about. I have heard him be openly anti-Catholic on various episodes.
He wants to be Joe rogan
This is pretty cringe bro
Essentially, yes. More and more he reverberates right-wing talking points. That's the reason I unsubscribed.
You are right. Jimmy Akin, Scott Hahn and Cy Kellett are among the few famous American Catholic apologists I find foreign to right-wing tendencies. Their discourse is hardly ever polluted by political preferences one way or the other.
More like the catholic Dave Rubin. They are both just interviewers (and both slightly delusional about their abilities). They both write Ctrl+C-Ctrl+V books etc
I discovered Matt's podcast in 2018 and was very happy for him when he made it to youtube... and eventually got tired mostly of his pretentiousness... Some people say that he was instrumental in their conversion... and that is great. Matt himself said severl times: 'God is using my BS as a fertiliser' and he is right, I guess... but there is much better quality content than PWA etc
Glad to see I’m not alone in having these thoughts (except for your comment about Ctrl V - that’s uncharitable, it sounds like you’re accusing them of plagiarism).
@@tomlabooks3263 No, I've never mentioned plagiarism. Many people write books today, but don't bring anything new. Dave's book was like his tweets put together etc. Just ctrl c bulk... When Trent writes, his books are very well researched, very useful to many people, memorable... I personally can't say the same about Matt's books.
Both of you are much appreciated.
