Is the 550i 2016 reliable?
@@samiwsp2537 That’s an LCI. 2014-16 is the LCI which has the N63TU. If it’s just N63, it’s junk, avoid it. Anything TU (technical update) is good to go. All you need is the sport oil cooler valve $120 and a 85 degree thermostat like $220. You can tell by the following…
- black engine cover, not silver.
- 2 DMEs which are the silver boxes right behind each head lamp
- 443hp 480lbs of tq

How is the reliability on them?
@@trbrian pretty reliable, had mine since 40k miles, currently at 91k miles, 2011 bmw 550i (one of the most unreliable years) As long as you change your oil strictly every 3k miles you should be good but of course it comes with some parts going bad. only things i’ve had to replace was Vanoss solenoids, 4 o2 sensors, Fuel pump. and nothing more. Ps. i broke a sway bar link doing donuts on an uneven road. Do with this information what you wish

i was thinking ab getting a 340i or a 550 but idk i want that v8 but that b58 is so reliable, any ideas or opinions would help
B58 is more reliable, has WAY more aftermarket support and it’s in lighter cars so it has the potential to be faster. If you get the N63, only get a 2014+ car that has the upgraded N63TU engine. TU is more reliable than the previous N63 and +40 HP. Both engines will have their set of issues so try to do your research. Use this website for more info on both engines: bmwtuning.co/
I’m in the same boat. Trying to decide between 540i or 550. Love the v8 but I know the 540 better gas miliage and more reliable but that v8………….
@@DadUsed2Skate Just make sure to buy the facelift 550i because the engine is so much more reliable compared to the older one.
@@cantbetrue I ended up buying a 2020 540i. No regrets. 550 is awesome but b58 more reliable and has a lot of potential I’m 100% satisfied

Have you done any transmission maintenance, if so what trans fluid do you recommend?
I've done a fuel transmission fluid flush and filter change about 15k miles ago. I got a transmission oil kit from FCP Euro: www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-ga8hp45z-ga8hp70z-auto-trans-service-kit-liqui-moly-24118612901kt You will also need a fluid transfer pump. A handheld one is fine.

Hey if you don’t mind me asking how many miles did you buy this car with? I’m looking at some around 80k miles. Would it be a bad idea to mod an 80k mile motor?
I personally wouldn’t do it, u can still find cheap ones with under 70k miles for less than $30k
I bought my 650 with 84k miles and it’s at 103K miles rn with no issues but a blown speaker 😂 gotta get it fixed mine was taken care of and still came with 2 keys and an unwrapped manual

That's the blind spot feature. It's part of the Driver Assistance package.
