One of his many many beautiful, enchanting, touching, complex.....songs! Forget about the Beatles, The stones, Etc.....this guy has written more songs, and told more stories through his music than anyone else! Simply the greatest Ever.
I agree with you (13 years later). Something about this particular version. Even the lo-fi, tape warbled noisy vibe adds to the whimsical mystery that is this song. It just seems like an ancient mystical hymn in some sense.
there are so many versions of this song but this is my favorite. It’s a quiet song of forbidden love. The symphonicities version is a bold declaration.
Thank u, Gilmourka...Sting gave a very credible performance (reminiscent of a young Malcom Mcdowell), in the beautifully weird BRIMSTONE&TREACLE...kudos to your exciting ´music video´.
Marco Freitas Is Martin wasn’t played by Sting, I definitely think Malcolm McDowell would have gotten the role. I get a lot of Clockwork Orange vibes from Brimstone & Treacle
Whoa, now that's what I call haunting!!! Never heard that version before, thanks so much for sharing! Sting's voice as well as his charisma never fail to get me!
I really remember how I listened to this song from mid-March or late March 2020 during the pandemic and knowing the lyric deep in my heart there's a whole world that's turning and how everything is very quiet when the pandemic hit from mid-March and man that lyric matches to that time around two years ago.
i really love that about sting songs. They were written quite a while ago and still you'll find very personal connections to them; randomly in such a way that it feels like you've unlocked some fever dream memory from a past life.
Really nice job on the video editing (particularly the use of some of the film's most quiet scenes) and it was so cool to hear this early version of the song, which is even more sinister and intimate than The Police version.
His voice. I know a lot of people worship Sting, but if I never knew who he was and heard this I would say the singing is so fkn great, he goes flat sometimes but really nails the heartfelt sh##
I just love this song heard it first when i saw the film Brimstone and Treacle. I have The Police versionand played it to death. I have to say this version is so beautiful thanx for putting it on...;o)
I believe the first half of the song, sung almost 'quietly' and to himself, was meant to be some sort of sick ''lullabye'' as ''Martin'', Stings character portrayal is secretly obsessed with the very young and invalid daughter of his Host. The last half [and towards the end of the movie] is his sick passion ''revealed'', as he's practically ''screaming'' it out at the top of his lungs....
This version of the song sounds very nice, I really like the sounds of it. Sting's voice sounds gorgeous, and in the clips of this movie he looks gorgeous as well even though the character he's playing isn't that good of a person. Thank you for posting this, the audio is beautiful.
Personally I don't believe it would have been a good fit on Zenyatta Mondatta but it did fit well on the Brimstone soundtrack. One of my favorite Police songs but the live version issued on Sting's Bring On The Night live album is superior.
Here is the original from Hot Gossip: ua-cam.com/video/ooOSpMyFQLQ/v-deo.html . In fact it was written by Sting, but Hot Gossip released it in 1981, so their version is the very first (after the Police re-release in 1982 and the Sting re-release in 1985).
did you also know the actor denholm elliot , who plays the father of the girl was hitting on sting ???? he made it his mission to seduce sting !!1 he was later known as colman the butler inthe movie with eddie murphy trading places.
The Beatles have written about 170 songs and recorded well over 200 - To my knowledge Sting hasn't done quite so many. Plus: The Beatles did it in only 12 years. None of this is a detrement to Sting :)
The Beatles had three good songwriters, though, and they didn't write a lot of their early stuff. Who wrote the better songs is, of course, just a matter of opinion, but I like the Police better than I like the Beatles.

Simply the greatest Ever.
Anyone else? 😂😂
Among all those magnificent song he has written, this one has a very unique unexplainable thing that crushes right into my soul.
I agree with you (13 years later). Something about this particular version. Even the lo-fi, tape warbled noisy vibe adds to the whimsical mystery that is this song. It just seems like an ancient mystical hymn in some sense.
this version gives me chills
"Deep in my heart there's a whole world that's turning
A nearness to you which has kept my soul yearning
I burn for you
I burn for you"
Beautiful!
there are so many versions of this song but this is my favorite. It’s a quiet song of forbidden love. The symphonicities version is a bold declaration.
Version on Brimston and Treacle is my favourite. It was great live on the Blue Turtles tour with Branford and Kenny, great drum solo from Omar Hakim.
Oh my god! Thank you!! It's one of my favourite songs, and I've never listened to this version. Sooo beautiful
Impressive song, so dark and stunningly moving and expressive... Astonishing Sting as a singer_songwriter, thanks for sharing it!
This is quite scary yet beautiful at the same time.
The live version that Sting recorded is , to this day, easily my favorite from him. So simple, so powerful.

Paige Lewis He WAS played by Sting. Look it up here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brimstone_and_Treacle
I imagine Sting the young in klockwok orange

Beautiful. Haunting. Sad.

This version is the best, simple, haunting, paired down to its beautiful core, where Sting's talent shines.
Never thought another version could rival The Police's. Thanks for sharing this.
Yes :) and this is Last Exit demo from "Sting & Last Exit: 1972-1977"
this is the best version of this tune..from movie
This is beautiful.
Isn't it?

I believe that the flats are from the wobbly 70s tape.

Brilliant. Thank you.
Agreed gnupf.
Amazing version of a delicious song. It mobilizes all your senses.
Thank you!!!

Sting wrote this beautiful tune years before the making of Brimstone and Treacle.
omg. never heard this version. ridiculous. want to cry!
Thank you for recording. It is hard to not get pulled into the emotion of the lyrics.
Thank you for the brilliance of this interpretation. I love this!
I have always loved this song!
Me too Angelo.
Goosebumps
Exactly.
Goosebumps time! Never heard this version before. I like best. Very nice video too. Thank you :-)
Tom Bates must be the only person who disliked this. Hauntingly beautiful.
easily sting's best song
This version of the song sounds very nice, I really like the sounds of it. Sting's voice sounds gorgeous, and in the clips of this movie he looks gorgeous as well even though the character he's playing isn't that good of a person. Thank you for posting this, the audio is beautiful.
Deep in my heart theres a whole world that's turning
and inners to you wich has keept my soul yearning and I burn for you
You're welcome! :)
Deep in my heart there's a whole world that's turning
A nearness to you which has kept my soul yearning
I burn for you
I burn for you
Sting's a genius. Anyone who claims something else has no clue.
Be quiet while listening, or it will disappear...
eerie and beautiful version of my favourite song 💜
bien séduisant!!!
Yes it is maritou.
Very different from where the song ends up with The Police. But the structure of the song is still there.
Love this song ❣️🎉😊
Interesting version. I seen the blue turtle tour in Dallas and it was by far the best version.
Clever video editing, Gilmourka.
its have litee slice walking on the moon , roxanne message in a battle invisible sun and more unbeliveball! GREAT TREASURE...
guy can't act for nuts, but what the hell it only adds to the brilliant vibe of this video. my fav tune.
Une merveille envoûtante
Intense.
Very Mrs. Vm
Super jakość, Super Sting, o yesss ;D
The Brilliance of the Shadow
The Brimstone and Treacle's version was recorded by The Police and it appears in Message in a Box.
oh thank you so much!
ラスト・エグジット版いいね👍
the script of this film reminds me a lot of TEOREMA of Passolini, a very dark movie this one.
I have the Brimstone and Treacle soundtrack and this version is not on the album!
trop craquant!!!
Such a beautiful & haunting track...Is there any way you could post scenes from this film? I think it is Sting's shining moment on film.
mi canciòn favorita !
e bom filme!!!!!!!
linda música

I don't know if I prefer this version or the Bring on the Night one...however they're both fantastic...
from 0.18 -0.20 there is a Picture in the Backround , with Japan on it
David.... 💔
What does INNERS in this part of lyrics mean?
"Deep in my heart there's a whole world that's turning
and inners to you wich has kept my soul yearning"
He burns for her deep inside...with his guts.
+ocport Hi, he says "a "nearness" to you which has kept my soul yearning." Hope that helps. :)
i love this song, but that movie-brimstone and treacle- is so weird.. but good lol
I thought the Police recorded this on Monte Serrat during the Ghost sessions.
Sting would have made a great great film Lestat
Gdzie mozna takie nagranie wygrzebać??????? ta wersja jest fajna ;d
to think this would have been on Zenyatta Mondatta if Andy and Stewart didn't poopoo it.
Does anyone know the notes to this? Really want to play this
What about the video? Was it made for the song?
I cut the video from "Brimstone and Treacle" film.
Here is the original from Hot Gossip: ua-cam.com/video/ooOSpMyFQLQ/v-deo.html . In fact it was written by Sting, but Hot Gossip released it in 1981, so their version is the very first (after the Police re-release in 1982 and the Sting re-release in 1985).
sounds like something björk would write.
were can i see the movie?
Ha! I bought it on VHS for $60 ($60!) when I was in high school (1985). $60 in 1985! Yes, I loved Sting/The Police!
@@jenniebarber6653 i love that you wrote to a 11 yr comment and that you paid 60$ for it the. the 80s were a special time. cheers.
did you also know the actor denholm elliot , who plays the father of the girl was hitting on sting ???? he made it his mission to seduce sting !!1 he was later known as colman the butler inthe movie with eddie murphy trading places.
And Marcus Brody in "Raiders of the Lost Ark"

@@chevydryden4508 yes 💯
Sounds really weak before The Police treatment.
Sounds solid and eerie. The best version imo
