Hey Ludi What you refer to is the written languages of Bokmål and Nynorsk. Bokmål is influenced by Danish over a long time, so a guy named Ivar Aasen tried to compile a "more norwegian/core norwegian" language: He did that by listening to a large part of the many varieties of dialects we have in Norway and synthesized it into Nynorsk. To illustrate this, if you travel an hour in any direction you will hear a noticable difference, and it is often differences just from one village to the next though ofc not very large differences. No one actually speaks Nynorsk as it is a combination of alot of dialects. The largest majority which speaks some variety more similar to Bokmål thinks Nynorsk is quite weird. Only about 15 % of the population uses it as their written language. IMO, it is kinda weird, but it gives us something to trash eacother about ;) However, as mentioned, the oral language have a large variety of dialects and it is fair to say that no one really speaks either the written language precisely. Hope that clears it up for you.
I think every European country has these huge differences in dialects. If I go 15km from my house in a random direction and talk to an old farmer, I cant understand a word the good man is saying. My language, Dutch, the writing was standardized in 1600.
@@TheSuperappelflap It's not even remotly comparable, because of the difference in geography. The most extreme of linguistic differences from geography (can't remember the proper term for this) is from the Caucasus, where the mountains means you have entire different languages a few kilometer apart, because of mountains and such. The Lowlands don't really have differences in dialects comparable to how varied it is in Norway, unless you actually compare Dutch/Flemish to French.
@@Oujouj426 Yes, i agree. And the intent of nynorsk is a bit off to begin with, i.e the scarring on the R's is imported from the continet and is in that regard nothing to do with old norwegian. That started in the southern parts of france in the 1400's if i remember correctly. There is a variety of influences for all dialects. The idea of generating a more "core norwegian" is inaccurate at best.
In Norway we have 2 languages yes but it’s kinda special. We have Bokmål spoken and written by most norwegians and we have Nynorsk written by a part of the population. Nynorsk is only a written language. Bokmål is more adaptable as you can write and speak it using you dialect without being wrong as Norway as a lot of different dialects. Nynorsk doesn’t really have that adaptibilty. The history of the 2 languages comes from when we swapped union from Denmark to Sweden we wanted our own languages instead of using danish. So around 1800 houndreds 2 different people who wanted a new language went out and studied how people spoke and how they used their dialects. There were different ideologies to how the language should be in Norway after the union switch. Some wanted to keep danish, a very small minority of mainly those who had interest in keeping good relations with the danish. There were those who wanted to norwegianise the danish language to fit how norwegians spoke and the language could change has norway changed. And there were those who wanted a completely new language as little influenced by the outside as possible. The guy who made Bokmål wanted to make the danish language more norwegian, and the guy who made Nynorsk wanted a completely new language. Bokmål used the big cities and such to learn how people spoke and used that, and Nynorsk was made using farmers and those isolated on the country side who would’ve had as little contact with the outside world as possible to have the language as little changed as possible from back during the time we spoke Norse. Later they were both made official languages. Anyways Nynorsk is hell and Bokmål is great.
Ludi you are basically the reason why i am "good" now in EU4. I just wonder if you could so some similar episodes for hoi4? You are always explaining so much what you are doing and it helped me a lot
28:56 is really accurate. In France, you're not allowed to have autonomy 😂. Also, the democratic empire was something Napoleon tried to create at least from a communication perspective

Also get For the Glory all the time Ludi. Probably a bug. And yeah, we got both Nynorsk and Bokmål in Norway, Nynorsk is being kind of a counter thing to the Danification under the union and Bokmål being a the main way of speaking, translating kinda to book language. Probably sounds a bit like old Danish before they got affected to much by the German language again. But we have official representations of both in both state media and school, not that everything is written in both but some times it's Nynorsk instead of Bokmål. And we have to learn both in school (unless something special, like having another main language than Norwegian in the first place) Any way love you man and take care
Thank you Ludi for these two very nice videos playing as France. I need to watch this one again because I did not quite get what you did in Spain to complete the related mission in the FR mission tree. But I cannot wait to watch the next one, as I have tried to reproduce your run. I only got parts of your achievements (e.g. I did not get the PU with Naples and vasalized Milan much later). But given that I had some foothold in North Africa earlier and some colonies in the Carribean I took from the Portuguese, I naively thought it was comparable. Despite this, I really struggled through the age of reformation with HRE and would like to see how you handle it.
Ludi, I know we didn’t hit the like goal for this one, but please release the third part! All I wanted for Christmas was this video and I was so sad it never came. My 2024 resolution is to see this campaign finished properly.
@LudietHistoria In Norway there are 3 main languages: 1) Riksmål (Kingdom speech) which is the old Norwegian (basically the same as Danish). It is mostly written, not spoken. 2) Bokmål (Book Speech) which is modern Norwegian spoken all over Norway. Also written. 3) Nynorsk (New Norwegian) which was a "failed attempt" to unite all the different dialects Norway has into one "common language". However basically every fjord has their own spin on Norwegian (or Bokmål) and as a Norwegian, Nynorsk is useless. Bergen speaks differently to Stavanger, or Kristiansand or Trondheim. But they all understand each other (albeit with some practice). Hope that explains a bit :)
So? As we all know from Star Trek, the Evil Alternate Universe versions always have a mustache... does that mean this is the 'Good' Ludi, aka the one who won't steal our walkets? Or is this just a clever attempt to fool us? The World waits for an answer.

Some of the nynorsk dialects are as unintelligible to me as danish, which is kind of ironic considering the history behind the writing form.
