  • Normanton is a town and locality in the Gulf Country region of Queensland, Australia. It is located on the Norman River, approximately 680 kilometers (420 miles) northwest of the state capital, Brisbane. The "Big Crocodile" statue in Normanton, Queensland, is indeed unique due to its representation of the largest crocodile ever shot. Krystyna Pawlowski, a professional crocodile hunter, shot the massive 8.63-meter (28 feet 4 inches) crocodile on the MacArthur Bank of the Norman River, downstream from Normanton, in July 1957. This remarkable feat earned her a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
The statue, located near the corner of Landsborough and Haig Streets, was constructed by Dudley Townsen and Associates in Townsville. It was then transported to Normanton by truck and unveiled in 1996. The presence of Krystyna Pawlowski and her husband Ron at the unveiling ceremony added significance to the occasion.
This larger-than-life sculpture accurately replicates the size of the legendary crocodile, known as "Krys - The Savannah King." It serves as a tribute to both the incredible size of the crocodile and the daring feat accomplished by Krystyna Pawlowski.
