  • The fall colors were popping on my recent solo day hike to Big South Fork State Park. I hiked a trail I hadn't done before and did the O & W Railroad & Leatherwood Loop for a total of 9 miles. I had fantastic weather and views and it was so worth the drive for some great fall hiking. This hike is also part of the Sheltowee Trace trail which I had planned to thru hike last year before starting my job. Maybe one day I will hike the whole trail. :)

Location: Big South Fork State Park

Hi Braids 👋 It's great to see you hiking in the fall. It's so cool that you all have a John Muir Trail over that way! It is definitely beautiful over there! These fall colors are just magnificent! Lunch looked good, too! 😊 I love the sound of the crunching leaves under your feet!

Hey there! So when I was at Leatherwood Ford for an aid stop, one of my crew members mentioned that a UA-camr had just been there that they recognized, but I was so out of it from just hiking 330 miles that I didn't give it a second thought....but glad we got to bump into you at the O&W Bridge! Sorry I couldn't stick around and chat, lol, but I did get the new Fastest Known Time! 6 days, 9 hours for the 343 miles. Happy hiking!

Nice to see you back on a trail. There were some nice colors. We just drove from MI to MN and saw tons of colors at their peak. Then we drove across lower MI and tons of colors there too. John from MI

Great to see you hiking again. I hope someday you can get some time off to do the Sheltowee Trace Trail. This looks like it would be a perfect time of the year to do it. 👣😎👍

You are in my favorite hiking area - The Big South Fork. Looks like perfect timing on leaf season.
Yes, Devils Den is a huge rock shelter. There are quite a few interesting geological formations in the BSF. I am always amazed by the perfect patterns, of round holes , in many of the rocks.
There is a nice place to camp on the top of the hill over the top of Devils Den. Nice view also. I also camped one night next to the big house size rock near the O&W Bridge. ( It was after dark when I got there - so didn't think that I would bother anyone.)

You had a great day to hike. I have been to that bridge on my horse. Sat on that rock too for a break. Thank you for the video.
You didn't happen to see any loose horses when you were there, did you? There are a couple of missing horses loose at this time.
