  • The Les Eparges area of northern France contains this raised are full of nice walks, WWI mine craters, monuments and strange memorials.
In this video I start by looking at a few of the massive (and numerous) mine craters above the town of Les Eparges. I finish at one of my favorite memorials, the Monument to the 106th and 132nd RIs, which has to be seen up close to be believed.

Thank you for posting. I wanted to get a visual perspective for what the area looks like today. Perfect.

Many thanks for posting this, and the other one about Vauquois. I visited both in 1994, probably more briefly than you. They are both amazing locations and seem to mirror each other, one on each side of Verdun, on the crest of hills overlooking lower ground. It's very hard to get any mental concept of how hellish it must have been there 100 years ago. I suspect relatively few Brits visit these but in my experience there is little further north along the front to match the Verdun area for impressiveness.
