This trailer originally was dropped during 4.4, so no one knew that we were going to the First yet. They crafted everything to make us incredibly uncertain if we were going to another world, or if this was a time skip and we were still in the Source ruined by the oncoming light that was being hinted in quest text. They expertly confuse us every single time until x.5 brings things more into perspective.
They also had 3 different versions the first shown at the NA fanfest in Las Vegas lacked the parts with Y'shtola, Thancred and Urianger, and just had the battle against the sineater with the job transitions
Something important to note is that we don't get the full trailers that early on. They'll release like half of it, then the full trailer around the end of the expansion patch cycle
at NA Fanfest when the teaser dropped, nobody believed me when I screamed gleefully "OMG WE'RE GOING TO THE FIRST" and I was so goddam proud of myself when it turned out I was right lmao. I think for many, they'd kinda forgotten about the Warrior of Darkness sub plot from HW, so didn't really think they would be used to prop up a complete expansion.
Something to note here is that Gunbreaker was also new this expansion so having Thancred be one of the new jobs and show it off against the flying lion also hyped up that job.
It was also YoshiP’s job costume for the expansion. Whoever makes those costumes for him is an absolute badass, they look exactly like the in-game versions.
Each expansion has a "poster boy" job and they appear in order during this trailer. 1.0 Archer, ARR Warrior, Hevensward Dragoon, Stormblood Monk & Samurai, and then they finish as Dark Knight for Shadowbringers.
In case you did not notice, the CLASS-CHANGE is IDENTICAL to represent each of the Classes in EACH previous Cinematic, IN ORDER. Archer(1.0), Warrior(ARR), Dragoon(HW), Monk & Sam(SB), and finally... become the warrior of Darkness DK for (SB)... subtle... but sooooooo meaningful!
Haven't gotten to the end of the video yet, but the "cards" in the 1.0 cinematic are levequests, since that was the main form of experience and leveling. The different icons mean different types of quests (and they're still in use today!) Derplander is looking through all the available quests and figuring out which one to do.
Not sure if anyone clarified for you guys already but archon is like a sharlayan 'doctorate' it's not related to being part of the circle of knowing, which is what Louisouix's group was called. You can identify archons by their tattoos (most of the scions have it on their necks but Urianger has it on his face). Other archons we've met who aren't connected to the circle of knowing: Matoya (tattoo on her face), G'raha (tattoo on neck), and Rammbroes (tattoo on the top of his head). So yeah it's a Sharlayan symbol that they have completed a thesis and are experts in their field, but not necessarily affiliated with Louisouix's group.
Ampador was home of the White(light) mages, hence the similarities with the sin eaters, the creatures you find in the normal version are sent there by the Mhachi Black (void) mages to attack them, hope that helps.

I stan Garrett so hard because I'm into emo/goth/metal culture and he's so cool, but I stan Kyle so hard because he's a precious cinnamon roll who gives me joy
The fact you guys noticed(had this pointed out to you) that both of those mobs are references to the Lost City of Amdapor (Hard) is amazing. Took me a while to get that and how it is connected to the War of the Magi, and how White Magic was used in combat
“Archon” is a title given by the Studium to people who have greatly contributed to a particular area of study. It’s essentially the Sharlayan version of a PhD. The Circle of Knowing (Louisoix’s group that eventually became the Scions) was composed of Archons, but Archons aren’t exclusive to it. Matoya is indeed an Archon as well.
A note about the gremlin in the trailer, they are the only enemy in 14 that shit talks you till you have a debuff. You take more and more damage while you have it and the only way to get rid of it is to type /comfort.

For the shadowbringers cinematic there were 4 different versions in total the first three being shown at each of the three different fan fests leading up to the expansion and the final full one being released about a month before the expansion was released. The first one was shown back in 4.4 showing the gimlet dark area before the dungeon was released. Also the cinematic helped show off the new jobs and races as well as the usual tip-off from Yoshi-p in what he was wearing during the fan fests as well. But yeah long story short slowly adding more and more to the cinematic every couple of months using the fan fests really helped raised the hype more and more.
Not sure if you guys noticed but each job change is from each cinematic Archer/bard = 1.0 , warrior = ARR, dragoon = heavensward, monk/samurai = stormblood, then finally dark knight = shadowbringers
I’ve been following your journey since you started last year, and I’m super duper excited to watch you go through my favorite expansion ❤ I also loved Endwalker, but man, Shadowbringers will always have a special place in my heart haha. Really looking forward to your future videos on Shadowbringers!
The pause when monk WoL jumps towards the sineater is a reference to the Stormblood trailer where WoL is sparring with Lyse, WoL in the lower left and Lyse in upper right, just like the sineater
At FanFest 2018, when we got a very limited part of the ShB trailer, there were a LOT of Tsukuyomi cosplayers (because hers was the last MSQ trial that had released) and there were queues to be stepped on by the cosplayers who were willing to do so.
The great thing about the shadowbringers trailer is that if you were playing at the time, they released 3? (I think its been a while) versions each tied to a fanfest where they would announce more. So the first time you might have seen just the bare bones WOL vs Sin Eater. The second may have had thancred appear to tease Gunbreaker, the third had the viera dancer to show off both viera and dancer as a job. I may be misremembering things but I thought it was neat
Little fun fact about that talking gremlin, so Soken asked an intern to do the sound for the gremlin and they came back with several takes and none of them worked out to what they had wanted it to sound like. So as a final take, the intern locked himself in his closet at home and took that, and then it was ok'd. (i remember one of the live letters mentioning this) also...not exactly a miqote, but if you want to know what they would look like without hair... here's a good example ua-cam.com/video/r46PO_LfRXc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Teiji
Y'all, I have probably watched this cinematic 3 or 4 dozen times and it literally doesn't get old. The musical evolutions are in lock-step with the cinematic flow and visual hits of the trailer, and THEN you throw in the pure nostalgia of the job changes thru the history of FFXIV cinematics, and its just... ugh, so good. I started playing FFXIV during the twilight patches of Stormblood, and this trailers was everywhere at the time. None of it made any since without the context of the game of course, but it was a good salesman if nothing else.
I love when the WoL and Zenos clash. The initial hit is so hard it instantly blows out all the fires and rolls the clouds back, then the FULL power of the clash is unleashed and it blasts away all the standing water. Edit - That has always been WoW's problem. They players do everything, EXCEPT KILL THE BOSS! We'd bring them down and suddenly "Thank you hero... but we'll take it from here!" /cue cut scene of NPCs taking credit from us.
Another thing to note about the Amdapor mobs is they are statues animated by light magic. The creatures on the first are living beings heavily corrupted by light.
Minor note: The "Everything takes place in a year' Was refuted and Debunked by the Devs in Live Letter 68. In the new timeline Well each xpac is about 6 months long, give or take.

The editing in *chefkiss* but what really made me write this comment: I HAVE TO WATCH YOUR FURTHER WAY THROUGH OUR BELOVED STORY 💖 This will be great, this will be awesome....this will be heartbreaking (again) and I am here for all your comments, reviews and so on. I watched you life during the Tesleen phase...and can´t wait for more. I am very happy that you take your time for this awesome story. Take care 💕
The Warhammer MMO cinematics and lore videos were my first time touching the Warhammer universe. It got me into Warhammer Fantasy and that lead to Warhammer 40k. So in that way that cinematic did indeed get me into Warhammer. Oh and the Warhammer MMO has a large fan ran server. It was....ok.
i am right there with you on the music!!! this trailer blows the others out of the water for me and the shadowbringers theme is still my favorite to this day. from what i understand, one of the big FF series composers, nobuo uematsu, composed the themes for 1.0, Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood, with soken and his sound team taking that and running. Shadowbringers was the first expansion where they had soken compose the theme as well, and you can tell that he just went ham on making it as awesome as possible. the sound team on the whole deserves so, *so* much praise for their work--soken especially as lead composer and head of the sound team--and SHB especially has most of my favorite tracks from XIV's soundtrack!! i know you're further into SHB now, but again--welcome to shadowbringers!!!
I’m now eagerly awaiting the Endwalker cinematic review video. Non-spoiler nite: Shadowbringers had a launch trailer released at E3 2019 that was super full of spoilery bits..but it was also massive hype since it was the players’ first preview of the plot in Norvrandt. I suggest you jump back to watch it -after- finishing Shadowbringers :)
Want to know what a miqo'te looks like under the hair? Look at an sphinx cat. You're welcome for that visual :D Also, I love that bit with your characters snapping their fingers in unison, it was so cute.
man, this cinematic is already nostalgic to me. i started playing at the release of 2.0, but being a fan of darker aesthetics i never really liked the warrior of light moniker much. i was so hyped for us to finally get to switch it up and introduce some complexity into the light vs. dark dichotomy.
Also about the gremlins in FF14, they can actually talk. There is a FATE in ShB that goes deeper into it. But even in lost city of amdapor, they used a skill that gives you a debuff, and that skill is basically they offending you, calling you names.
In 14 gremlins do talk! And more importantly they they shit talk so much they inflict a "Misery" debuff that needs the "comfort" emote to dispel (or just let it run down its kinda short)
6:40 The time progression of each expansion is more or less a full year, give or take a month, depending on your view of the planet's size and how fast we get to those areas. Not sure if that includes each expansion's respective patch content(X.1-X.3 or even up to X.5), but the team have confirmed that each X.0 takes place in their own "time bubble," so that even the side content and quests given by "regular people" NPC's can be influenced by whether or not you beat that MSQ, even waiting til the next expac could give different dialogue in certain blue unlock quests.
Lost City is light aspected dungeon. I dont remember its quest, but most of mobs there are from light familly, using light aspected attacks. This time its for real. :) But dont worry, there are some beautiful light mobs you havent seen yet....
Amdapor was a nation of White Mages. And considering that Mhach (their rival Black Mage nation) used voidsent a LOT as revealed in numerous quests, it doesn't surprise me that Amdapor would try something similar.
So excited to see y’all enjoy one of the best trailers in the entertainment industry! The Grinding Gear community is also amazing and always shares interesting add-on info in the comment sections❤🎉 I’ll only add for myself - more Tuna and Val in these videos! Such a nice touch and brings home the journey your characters are on! Well done!
the previous expansions cinematic i felt like watching them one time, then move on. but for shadowbringers i will never get bored no matter how many times i’ve seen it. the same goes to endwalker and i hope they go with this direction for the rest of the game. the music absolutely play a big part here. it’s a music video at this point.
The music in this trailer absolutely gets me pumped always, and to me it's also like in most cinematic's previously we have sorta an orchestral sound with beautiful singing, where as this one starts that way but as we transition over to the 1st the guitar starts coming in even the music is telling you "were doing something different".
@25:00 Your game will remember the last "Movie" you viewed for the title screen. So before Start and Logging in, view the "Shadowbringers Demo and Title" and it will remain on that title screen, for "Shadowbringers", until you view a different one. If you view the Stormblood Demo and Title, it will remain on the Stormblood title until you watch another, and so on. Choose the title screen you want--keep it on Shadowbringers by watching that movie, then when you finish the last patch, log out and watch the Endwalker Demo and Title to change it to that one...

The Barking Triad EXTREME
I’ve been following your journey since you started last year, and I’m super duper excited to watch you go through my favorite expansion ❤ I also loved Endwalker, but man, Shadowbringers will always have a special place in my heart haha.
Really looking forward to your future videos on Shadowbringers!
The pause when monk WoL jumps towards the sineater is a reference to the Stormblood trailer where WoL is sparring with Lyse, WoL in the lower left and Lyse in upper right, just like the sineater
Didn't see anyone mention the thumbnail yet. That thumbnail looks real good.
I had been hoping for a deep dive into the lyrics of the song. Instead, I got an analysis of Thancred's choker. I'll take it.
That thumbnail is now my desktop background. I love it.
21:09 Hearing, feeling, and thinking, perhaps?
Little fun fact about that talking gremlin, so Soken asked an intern to do the sound for the gremlin and they came back with several takes and none of them worked out to what they had wanted it to sound like. So as a final take, the intern locked himself in his closet at home and took that, and then it was ok'd. (i remember one of the live letters mentioning this)
also...not exactly a miqote, but if you want to know what they would look like without hair... here's a good example ua-cam.com/video/r46PO_LfRXc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Teiji
THE THUMBNAIL??? IM AM SHOOK
11:06 - Kyle :" What's burning"?
Me: "It's a Tree Kyle".. 🤣🤣
"The Offspring logo-"
"Uh-huh, uh-huh"
I see what you did there
Editing is on point this video. Good job guys.
I love the comfortable chemistry you guys have together. Makes half hour long videos feel like 10 minutes.
Yay glad Khat's movie theater room in the FC got a cameo at 5:23!!!
Another thing to note about the Amdapor mobs is they are statues animated by light magic. The creatures on the first are living beings heavily corrupted by light.
I love the visual pun too. Of all the races of course it was Miquote - literal Fatcats.
Ok, the offspring reference and Kyle immediately saying "uh huh uh huh" was so perfect and they didn't even acknowledge it. Love it.
Minor note: The "Everything takes place in a year' Was refuted and Debunked by the Devs in Live Letter 68.
In the new timeline
Well each xpac is about 6 months long, give or take.
oh my.... I just started watching your videos/streams since a couple of weeks but you both already grew to my heart. The editing in *chefkiss* but what really made me write this comment:
I HAVE TO WATCH YOUR FURTHER WAY THROUGH OUR BELOVED STORY 💖 This will be great, this will be awesome....this will be heartbreaking (again) and I am here for all your comments, reviews and so on. I watched you life during the Tesleen phase...and can´t wait for more. I am very happy that you take your time for this awesome story. Take care 💕
28:35 "RIP to those guys, I'm simply built different"
The Warhammer MMO cinematics and lore videos were my first time touching the Warhammer universe. It got me into Warhammer Fantasy and that lead to Warhammer 40k.
So in that way that cinematic did indeed get me into Warhammer.
Oh and the Warhammer MMO has a large fan ran server. It was....ok.
I jump into that game every now and again just for a hit of nostalgia.
Still think it's funny that the Gremlin drops Emet's lines left and right
@14:17 “I have questions about the anatomy of a M’qote.” You and me both ;)
i am right there with you on the music!!! this trailer blows the others out of the water for me and the shadowbringers theme is still my favorite to this day. from what i understand, one of the big FF series composers, nobuo uematsu, composed the themes for 1.0, Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood, with soken and his sound team taking that and running.
You're welcome for that visual :D
Also, I love that bit with your characters snapping their fingers in unison, it was so cute.
I love how the various regions of the 1st mirror the Source. Aman Aarang : Thanalan :: The Black Shroud : Rak'tika Greatwood :: Kholusia : La Noscea
Love the theater setup.
man, this cinematic is already nostalgic to me. i started playing at the release of 2.0, but being a fan of darker aesthetics i never really liked the warrior of light moniker much. i was so hyped for us to finally get to switch it up and introduce some complexity into the light vs. dark dichotomy.
"I have questions about the anatomy of Miqo'te"
Don't we all brother.
The Road to El Dorado reference at the end was *chef's kiss*
I love your theory bit about Minfilia.
"One of the greatest cinematics in general" - fixed it for you
Lost City is light aspected dungeon. I dont remember its quest, but most of mobs there are from light familly, using light aspected attacks.
This time its for real. :)
But dont worry, there are some beautiful light mobs you havent seen yet....
Amdapor was a nation of White Mages. And considering that Mhach (their rival Black Mage nation) used voidsent a LOT as revealed in numerous quests, it doesn't surprise me that Amdapor would try something similar.
It was a city of white mages, and they made animated statues to present "anti-voidsent" as a counter to their rivals: The Mhachi black mages.
@@TheIvoryDingo Mhachi rulz.
Love the edit of your WoL's watching the trailer! So fun seeing "new eyes" to this trailer.
Dudes, that theater transition is slick!
I love gremlins. I always try to get a glance at their text bubbles as they have some great little comments. "Your face is ruining my immersion!"
So excited to see y’all enjoy one of the best trailers in the entertainment industry! The Grinding Gear community is also amazing and always shares interesting add-on info in the comment sections❤🎉
I’ll only add for myself - more Tuna and Val in these videos! Such a nice touch and brings home the journey your characters are on! Well done!
I always LOVED the inclusion of Eternal Wind into the main theme. The call back to FFIII was **chefs kiss**
In case anyone is wondering, the song that was playing during the crystal tower scene is a remix of the FF3 theme - Eternal Wind
Best thumbnail so far, guys. Love it!
the previous expansions cinematic i felt like watching them one time, then move on. but for shadowbringers i will never get bored no matter how many times i’ve seen it. the same goes to endwalker and i hope they go with this direction for the rest of the game. the music absolutely play a big part here. it’s a music video at this point.
