Join us for our latest instalment of Outlander On Location at beautiful Preston Mill in historic East Lothian!
Outlander TV Series fans will instantly recognise this place for the first of its main scenes in Outlander Season 1. Preston Mill stands in for the broken waterwheel at Lallybroch that Jamie tries to repair under water, while evading Redcoats!
The second scene that was filmed here, may not be as apparent, as it was an internal location in the building adjacent to the mill. This building acted as the ante room to the court where Claire and Geillis are condemned for witchcraft!
We are planning on making this a regular Outlander series for our Channel, so let us know in the comments below what other Outlander locations(both TV Series, Novels or Historic) you'd like to see next!

I”ve recently moved to East Lothian and regularly take the same car journey through East Linton (my destination is the quaint tea room at Smeaton) which is almost opposite the Mill. Hoping the NT for Scotland can restore it. The flood in 1948 of the river Tyne caused a lot of problems especially in Haddington (where I live) where it submerged buildings, bridges etc in the town. Hoping it doesn’t happen again....
Yes, love the wee Smeaton tea room! :)
Love your videos.

The wheel was working when myself and the apprentice from a local Carpentry company were finished with it earlier that year. The oak block supporting the outer bearing had rotted away, so we jacked the wheel back to plumb and fitted the new block, got the grindstone turning when no one was looking 😁
Cool, thanks for sharing! :)
Very cool that they have a memorial to Outlander in the court house I guess it was, very cool! The Mill is very beautiful!
One of our favourite stops on our Outlander Tours!
Lovely. My Great Grandpa’s ancestors came from all around there. Some are buried in the graveyard at Prestonkirk, and some near Athelstaneford.🙂

The scenery is beautiful but could have done without the conversation bubbles interfering with the view.
