just a suggestion if you ever need to do another like this--a chain across the bucket with a hydraulic jack between the piece to be bent and the chain would make it easier to bend with heat applied.

Pretty lady, you have got to learn how to weld properly, that tap weld is fine for holding a part in place but to make a good strong weld you must create a constant bead. Thosr tap welds don't create enough heat in the metal to get a strong weld. Also, that snapping and popling is caused by the metal nit being clean enough. Try grinding the rust away before starting to weld it should help you a lot in getting good welds.
