    Nice Video as always.I bought mine back May 2021 for £35.21 plus vat and shipping came to £50.12.What i like about this radio is the usb connector on the battery for charging .Its a great idea.Wish more manufacturers did the same.

    I bought one these a short while ago.
    Very nice little radio with a USB micro socket on the battery for charging which is very handy.
    But I cannot find any programming software for it. CHIRP does not support it.
    Have put in a few channels by hand, but really need to use software to make the best use of the memories.
    Otherwise the 8600 is solid performing (and built) radio as Lewis has shown!

    Hi Lewis, here's a video for you to make if you like.
    Where I live (low ground, 2 miles from Werneth low), I can hear the Hollyhead coastguard on VHF. This is 124 miles away by road. It still surprises me that this signal cuts through. Having said that, 50% of the trip is over water looking at Google maps.
    I doubt that coastguard runs more than 10 watts. It could make a good video if you can also make the distance.
    Just for info, when I was last at Anglesey, I could hear the Belfast coastguard. It looks about the same distance away from Anglesey. Theres a lot to be said about having line of sight 😀

    • @HarrySwettenham26
      @HarrySwettenham26 3 роки тому +5

      I live in North Wales in a place called Llanfairfechan, it is between Bangor and Conwy on the A55.
      Holyhead Coastguard use repeaters along the coast to broadcast their transmissions.
      Holyhead Coastguard cover from St George's channel in South Wales, up the coast to Anglesey, across North Wales to the Wirral, up the North West coast of England to the Mull of Galloway in Scotland. They also share cover of the Isle of Man and Irish Sea with Dublin Coastguard and Belfast Coastguard.
      But from Werneth Low, you are probably hearing the repeater (still some distance from you though).

    Sorry, Lewis but yesterday I achieved 184 km on a SOTA Summit 2 Summit from Bardon Hill, in Leicestershire to Moelfre GW/NW-041 near Barmouth in Wales, using my 12-year-old Alinco DJ175 HT, with an MRW210 whip, 5 w no lift

    • @Flipdrivel
      @Flipdrivel 3 роки тому

      Was puzzled by this till I found the hill called Moelfre in southern Snowdonia (589m). And apparently Bardon Hill is 278m. What with the Berwyns right in the way, that is indeed a fantastic contact! What were they using at the other end?

    I have this radio, but still haven't found the correct programming software for it. I tried using the one foe the 8800, which somewhat works.. It lets you read and program the radio, but you cannot change any of the settings in the software. I ended up having to manually edit the file it's programming to the radio.. Does anyone have a download the the proper software for this radio?

    M3HHY from M7LUT: I like your videos showing the performance of the latest HT you have acquired. From a previous video I have seen what a collection you have! One of these days, we’ll have to see if we can work each other from Werneth Low to the highest point in my area using our HTs (Ivinghoe Beacon). I’ve a Retevis RT5 and a Yaesu FT65. Using a high gain mag mount antenna on the top of my car, would we stand a chance, do you think?

    Hi Lewis,
    With all of these negative comments & haters logging into your Channel, they could earn you another new rig. It's a shame that there are so many operators on the air who really don't understand enough about propagation on VHF/UHF, especially when it line of sight/almost line of sight.
    Regarding your review, I guess I would probably go for the 8800 if I was inclined to buy yet another handset, lol.
    Great Vidio too BTW Lewis, Keep them coming buddy.
