honestly there's nothing in that shoe worth $585. the only premium material on it is the insole and the eyelets, and that's not worth the price...all I really have to say about this is remember when kanye said every person that wants a pair would be able to get and afford them?

its not cardboard it's untreated hard thick leather. it's used as a base for most designer shoes, it keeps the rubber sole from warping and the shoe from getting out of shape

As a Cordwainer student studying footwear design and innovation I have been able to study the process of footwear production. In Kias' defence and Kanye's defence smart shoes, boots, hiking boots and pretty any shoe mass produced that is NOT a sneaker will have a cardboard insole. Its just how the industry creates the base of the soles design, its flexible and sturdy and is made from more than just cardboard (glue, resin and foam at the toe. You will find underneath the thick multi card layer is layers of cork or eva foam that creates the midsole with layers of eva mold and a metal shank to attach the lug sole unit. It is a duck boot, it does not need boost technology nor extra padding. Sneakers which you are all used to do not have these insoles because they do need need to keep there shape. They are designed to flex and bend. These are duckboots - not sneakers.
If you guys knew how shoes where made and actually learned about you favourite subject area, then you would know that the "cardboard" insole is a necessity for any shoe that is not a sports shoe. They are not a sign of lack of quality. Just the foundations of the boot.
