John Candy must've had a blast voicing Wilbur 😂
I'll bet.
He definitely sounded as if he did. He sounded like he put his heart into the role.
Sad that this is the only Disney animated movie he's ever been in
Love how different Wilbur is to his brother Orville. One's an old school kinda guy, and his little brother is a party dude.
I wonder if that was how the Wright Brothers were like in real life.
Bernard: it was an avalanche. 0:37
Wilbur Orville’s Brother. 1:05
John Candy was perfect as Wilber. Rest in peace John!
Also he portrayed the police officer who catches Sid & sam in children's television workshop in sesame Street presents follow that bird starring big bird
Oh, he's dead now? 😢
@@CyberSphere2024he has been since 1994.
Yup, a big heart attack got him.
Even though I grew up with the first movie, and never even saw the sequel until a couple years ago, Wilbur is just hilarious. RIP John Candy, one of the funniest men who ever lived!
Unpopular opinion: I like Wilbur better than Orville.
I’m willing to bet that’s because of Candy
@@Bostonterrierslol It's probably because Wilbur is a bigger character that's heavily featured throughout the film while Orville just flew them to the bayou and then left until the very end of the film. I saw Down Under first so I was quite surprised how little a role Orville had compared to Wilbur.
Yeah, I totally agree Wilbur had a bigger role than Orville and John Candy was more enthusiastic and energetic than James Jordan was.
Wilbur is so funny like him better
@@Crichtonator1982It's Jim Jordan
Wilbur was funnier and had more of a personality than his brother Orville. And this was the better movie than the original.
I want to give a huge props to the character of Wilbur-while he (very understandably) wasn't going to fly them *anywhere* due to the storm, as soon as he found out a child was at risk he not only was *ready* to fly, but he made it work to make the flight, completed the flight*and* tracked them down to help out later. Wilbuer was a heck of a bird...
Bianca: Bernard, this is no time to play in the snow!
Bernard: I wasn’t playing in snow! It-it was an avalanche!
Bianca can be real ditz sometimes.
Bianca: Oh, look, Bernard! "Under New Management. See Wilbur."
Lol.
What about in the first movie? "LET GO YOU BIG BULLIES YOU!" 🤣🤣🤣
@@rippingtons60But we love her. I guess she's just desperate to help save Cody as soon as possible
RIP Bob Newhart 1929-2024
He really gave Bernard heart and soul.
That’s a great line to tell the boss at work during a thunderstorm, “haven’t you looked outside?! It’s suicide out there!”
Orville and Wilbur. The Wright Brothers. Very appropriate they chose those names for the albatross brothers.
Makes you wonder what they would have done for a third film.
@@Unversed333 Two gulls maybe called Charles and Furnas? (after the very first airplane passenger)?
Sad Orville didn't appear in the sequel but at least we had Wilbur
Unfortunately, Jim Jordan (VA of Orville in The Rescuers) died from a fall shortly before the casting for "The Rescuers Down Under". Roy Disney likely thought it was more respectful to create Wilbur for John Candy than to have him voice Orville.
@@job489 even if Jim did live long enough I I don't think he would happy able to Done it in his condition
@@job489 Interestingly they'd already recast Orville for a Disneyland film attraction about the history of flight that ran in the 80s (Jim was still alive and approached to reprise but he'd retired by then) but I guess they opted not to use them.
oh, aaah, eeeeee! 😢 that's so sad 😞 I'll bet that James Jordan would've been laughing if he saw how John Candy played Wilbur 😅
@@bob1986😮Wow, that's interesting 😮
Sounds like John Candy improvised a lot of his dialogue.
I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Heck, him singing "Black Slacks" must have been just John Candy having fun and not in the script.
Since The Rescuers Down Under was the only sequel in the series, it's unknown what happens to Wilbur after the babies hatch at the end of the film. It's possible he became the new mate of Marahute since she lost her first mate, but this is doubtful since Wilbur and his brother Orville are both based on the Wright Brothers, who in real life never married or had children. Also, given that Marahute is an eagle and Wilbur is an albatross, they would probably not want to breed with one another. Hopefully, Bernard and Bianca, who were seen at the end of the movie riding Marahute, eventually remembered Wilbur and returned to him so he could take them back to New York City, but the rest afterward remains unknown.
Storyboards for an unused extension to the film's ending (seen in the book Paper Dreams: The Art & Artists of Disney Storyboards), in which Bernard and Bianca ride off on Wilbur after their wedding, suggest that they evidently did return to him.
I think they would have made a sequel had it not been Eva Gober's passing.
Well yeah they definitely went back to him seeing how they were all on Marahute and she probably wanted to go see her eggs once Bernand assured her they were safe and not destroyed.
Damn...3 great actors right here, all gone

This might be the funniest scene in the movie, you instantly fall in love with Wilbur.
The scene that got me laughing harder also involves wilber where he's at the doctors office, and they bring out the chainsaw. That chainsaw got the biggest laugh out of me.

Which albatross was more hilarious to you? Orville or Wilbur?
@@dannytallman3022 I Choose Wilbur
I thought they were both good and funny characters.
Mid June might be nice in New York but not so much in Australia.
When I first watched this as a kid, one thing that confused me was the fact they went from a blizzard in New York to basically summer in Australia. At first, I thought it was because they were in a desert, but when I learned that the southern hemisphere has flipped seasons compared to those of us in the northern hemisphere, I got it.
1:55 WILBUR: My brother, Orville, told me all about you!
Hey, who killed the music?
My favourite Albatross❤❤❤
Seems like Bernard hates rock music.
He also hates the number 13 and flying
@@justinperry2520I hope he’s seeing somebody. Ψ
Wilbur is one of my top most favorite underrated Disney Characters
Ironically, John Candy died at age 43, which was around the same age his character's namesake passed away.
1:29 Look out!
Bianca: Bernard, do something. He can’t hear us.
If comparing Orville and Wilbur from both the Rescuers movies, I would say that Canadian comedian John Candy must've taken in the reins of actor Jim Jordan, who voiced Orville in the first movie.
In my opinion, if at any chance that they had to include American comedian and actor Buddy Hackett in the movie, he would join hands with John Candy, because you know, Buddy Hackett voiced Scuttle, a seagull in The Little Mermaid (1989). If Wilbur flies with Bernard and Bianca, then Scuttle will join with him, because you know, Scuttle's a fantastic flyer! It's like an albatross and a seagull flying together. That's what the old proverb saying goes, right? *_Birds of a feather flock together!_*
RIP to all 4 of them:
_Buddy Hackett (1924 - 2003)_ *He was not in this movie.
John Candy (1950 - 1994)
Eva Gabor (1919 - 1995)
Bob Newhart (1929 - 2024)
Their memories I will cherish forever.
There's a seemingly striking comparison between both Wilbur and Scuttle.
If Wilbur can fly, maybe Scuttle can too!
Because of one thing: Wilbur is an albatross, and Scuttle is a seagull.
I would have to agree with you there on your opinion. My family would be laughing to the max if Buddy Hackett was included in the movie. It would be 2 times the comedy fun!
A comedian with a thick New York accent like Scuttle could be flying with another comedian with a Canadian/American accent like Wilbur. Seems like there is a resemblance comparison here: Wilbur almost looks a lot like Scuttle from The Little Mermaid! The Disney character and animation team must've had a direct passion for specific birds that can fly.
@@robinhoodproductionsltd.1633
Don't we all just _love_ comparing Disney characters? Putting Scuttle in the mix will be much hilarious overall to the fact that if there already was Wilbur, we can easily add Scuttle in this movie.
Unlike Wilbur, he's a specially trained albatross - whilst Scuttle over there is a one-of-a-kind seagull who, in fact, knows all about human stuff!
@@littlejohnandbaloo9701
Uh, but didn't we forgot about Orville? He himself is an albatross, and he's unlike an older brother to Wilbur!
Both Orville and Wilbur have seemingly striking appearances than that of Scuttle, the seagull from the 1989 animated film "The Little Mermaid".
Both of their names (Orville and Wilbur) are almost well-known to the title of _"The Wright Brothers",_ whom suddenly have made their first airplane contraption. It's interesting to know that two of the albatrosses gave their names to "The Wright Brothers" in a Disney film, which I quoted in various reasons.
The Albatross and Seagull Airlines -- or better yet, *_Wilbur and Scuttle Airlines!_* A fair fare from here to there!
Who'd have thought of the opinion of adding Buddy Hackett to the movie? It's a genius work of art!
Realizing that someone from NYC with Jewish origins made its way through the movies and beginning with Disney in 1968 has already been a star in comedy and into the world of the movies, and posthumously becoming a Disney Legend afterwards, I would say as a Disney fan, I love that opinion! The artists, actors or voice actors, and the whole Disney animation team would be laughing about that indeed!
Just think that a seagull is able to join in the fun with an albatross on his side!
2:48, How about a cream soda?
"Now look. We need a flight to Australia."
Australia? A land down under? That's a fabulous idea!
I remember as a kid Wilbur got instant cool points for having cream soda ready on deck.
I feel kind of sorry for him. He like gets alot of bad luck in the movie.
Song?
Black Slacks
1:10 Party time 😂😂😂😂
Wilbur is definitely a party animal
At first I thought Orville and Wilbur were same albatross.
I’m getting a Launchpad McQuack vibe from Wilbur.
Just now caught the sex joke. 😂
I think they based Wilbur on some of John Candy’s features with his face and the shape of his head.
I always thought Orville and Wilbur was Scuttle from The Little Mermaid when I was a kid.
We thought the same thing too! It's like a seemingly striking comparison to Scuttle.
Think about it: _Wilbur, from "The Rescuers Down Under" (1990)_ and _Scuttle, from "The Little Mermaid" (1989)..._ They both have seemingly similar character to his secondary brother Orville. Isn't that a coincidence?!
Wilbur and his brother have the same names as the wright brothers
Part of me does wonder how things would’ve been had Jim Jordan lived to be able to reprise his role of Orville. Would Wilbur even exist?
My pet mouse es
For some reason this doesn't feel like 1990, it at least feels like the early 2000s

I'm sad that Orville didn't return and was mad that they replaced him with his idiot brother Wilbur
Well, the first time I saw this movie, which was about two or three years ago, I was pretty disappointed too. But to be fair, Jim Jordan, who voiced Orville, had died by the time this movie was in production. Besides, you gotta admit, Wilbur is pretty funny.
@@AGPfan it's not the same
@@tylerwheeler8595 Yeah, it isn't.
Better than replacing him with a new actor. Jim Jordan was a really good fit for Orville.
