I know it's been four years since you posted this, but I hope you are still reading the comments. I am a reading tutor for second grade students and I have made one of these for each of the three girls I've tutored for the last three years. It's a wonderful end-of-the-year gift for them and I always include a book with the pillow -- one that has a special meaning for each of them. Their eyes always light up when they see me pull this pillow out of my big bag. Thank you for making this easy to follow tutorial!!

Brilliant tutorial! I find some simple, beginner sewing videos to be quite condescending but you explained everything clearly with some brilliant tips! I'm going back to sewing after about 15 years so feel like I'm back at the beginning again. This is probably the best book pillow tutorial I've watched. Thank you!

I just wanted to thank you for your excellent teaching style. I've just begun to sew after 30 years - (raised kids). I've made 6 of these pillows as gifts to my great nieces, nephews & 3rd cousins! My current pillow will be for my very own (and first) granddaughter!!! Thank you again. You're a true blessing. Sewing from Conyers, GA USA.

I absolutely adore this project! I made one for my 7 year old and 3 for my brothers children. You have the most tranquil voice, and your choice of words are delightful! I’m extremely new to sewing and not once did I become frustrated or felt that you had left me behind. Your speed was perfect and the dialogue you entered made it entertaining. So, in a nutshell, educational, relaxing, entertaining, and productive. I thank you for this opportunity! And the kids LOVE the pillows!

I was never any good at sewing at school, many years ago, used to take me a lesson to thread the sewing machine!! Not joking. Decided it is time to master this skill, and Stuart, wish there was someone like you way back when, when I was at school. You explain things so easily. Got a freebie sewing machine and was looking for projects for beginners and found you......OMG. You make the projects sound so easy. It has taken me quite a few hours to make the book pillow but I love it, and am given them to family members. They aren't bad even if I do say so myself. Thank you for taking the fear away from this subject and explaining this clearly and simple. Looking to make the Japanese Rice bag next. Thank you thank you

Thank you for a chirpy cheery tutorial. Enjoyed it immensely love you talk faster but able to be informative at that speed without me losing track of where you are going.
I got all the stages done ( or so I thought). Today proceeded to sew.
Didn't overlock till I checked right side out was as is should be and seams caught all fabric. Ironed it and thought how lovely.
    Then I saw my mistake.
No handle. So sneaky me marked where it needed to go, unpicked only that section of seam then popped in handle sewed it in and reinforced BEFORE I rechecked right side. In my unpicking I had pulled out edge of one of the backing hemmed pieces.
But now I was already adept at unpicking and realized I only needed to undo stitching where back section out. The overlocking in place held the rest of seam in place for me still allowing space to slip that turned edge back into side seam.
The unpicking reinforces the need to check and double check next time around.
**Can you tell us what fleece interfacing you would recommend for this project please. **
I went to use normal polyester wadding pieced together but it was way too thick I had some quilting fleece but opted to use iron on polyester fleece used in bags.
It cost more than fleece no doubt but I purchased it to make bags using a specific pattern that alas was very badly done with link to video long dead and instructions possibly translated on line to English before printing out. If you can't read English you can't check the translation and I ended up with metres of fabric and fleece unable to be used till now.
Now I can create book pillows for charity and possibly for family too.
Thank you for your smiling face, your tips and checks and double checks along the way. You are an excellent tutor.

Saw you on create and craft today. Enjoyed your demos. So pleased you mentioned your UA-cam channel. I am definitely going to give this a go, it will be my first one. You explain each stage so clearly. Thank you Stuart. X

Just gorgeous! Think I will make these as Chrissy presents for the grandkids, might change a couple up and put straps on them to make it like a backpack style. Thank You so much for sharing 💜
