That dashboard fabric material looks like a rip off from Dacia... Why does this interior looks SOOO cheap? This car is very expensive. Too expensive for that.
Interior on this gen is really spec down. I went seeing it a the mini dealer at sales launch. Almost no soft touch materials any more. The cloth on the dash is not looking so great in reality. The sat nav screen is really a gimmick. Yeah like in other modern BMW. Should be forbidden. One thing that has not been specced down is the price. My god easy plus 50.000 eur for the s version. And yes this does not feel like a mini anymore it's too big honestly said.
Having driven one as a loaner while my last gen JCW countryman was getting worked on, this car is awful. It's been completely immasculated. My Mini now is unfortunately the last Mini I will own.
I have the previous generation Countryman and let me tell you that it feels and it’s much better than this one. The old one feels much more robust and solid, it has also many more refined Interior materials, the door sound solid when closing and the gearbox being a torque converter one is smooth and reliable, it is a composed car for being an suv and very very spacious for its size. The new Countryman feels cheap, it’s really too big to replace the previous gen, it’s missing physical controls, better materials, sound insulation and perhaps a powerful but economical Diesel or a hybrid because those petrol are damn thirsty! Also Matt do you really think that those pops and bangs sounds any good? To me they sound like someone farting in a can. 😂
I can never understand why people are buying the "bigger " mini, they remind me of my wife gaining 60+lbs since I met her, if I want a small family SUV, there are so many better choices.
@@JohnAty4 Sorry but just seen an Electrified UA-cam test of Countryman Vs Volvo EX30. The Countryman was £47,000 ..... And then it was spec'd with another £9,000 worth of options. So even with my maths that is way beyond £50k. Look at the video for yourself. Released today. Prices at the last 5 mins of the video.
Maybe the door handle design encourages the Dutch Reach opening of doors where you reach / turn with your opposing arm so you actually turn and look into the door window and therefore you can see if any cars are coming up from behind.
It’s a BMW X1 (U11) in a Mini skin (so many shared parts, external door handles, sunroof control cluster, engines etc). The JCW is effectively the same car as the M35i. I have an X1 and it’s a “troubled” car. I fear the Countryman will be too.
So this MINI Countryman is the JCW. It had a patrol engine without (mild) hybrid tech. There is no plugin-hybrid anymore and I think MINI made a big mistake with that. The range of the fully electric is just not enough. Edit: no mild hybrid for the JCW.
I almost bought the original countrymen with a 6-speed manual when I was looking for a family car, but instead, I went with a tiguan. I think it was the right choice.
Why is a British car company owned by the very German BMW the 3rd most reliable car brand in the world, beating all supposedly “well built” German home brands?
Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Avoid!!! Looks hideous. Too many things that would annoy me (no physical heater controls, fake exhaust noise, etc). Then take into account the cost and you'd need to be certifiable to want to buy one.
That infotainment screen would've been much more easy to use if they added a little hand rest in front. In my car I can just barely reach the aftermarket touch screen for controlling media with my hand resting on the shifter knob, but you don't have one in these
I've had my current car for about 8 years now, and i rarely ever use the arm rest on the door. I'm shocked that's even enough of a con to even mention lol
One of the reasons why Doug Demuro described the Mitsubishi Mirage as the worst car and opened the floodgates to be cool to criticize it was because of the door handles, which he described as old-fashioned and no manufacturer does that again, but here we are with the same style of door handles on this countryman in 2024. When youtubers want to nitpick, they will definitely find something because here are the same door handles being described as flash to the body. Sometimes the things we regurgitate and find issues with are not even problems in itself or they did not up from our experience or it being our original idea but its something we heard someone say and we just went along with it.
The redesign is a total failure. Especially the interior. It gives the impression of low quality materials. I don't see the 50k I have to spent on it anywhere inside this mini. The gear selector feels it was taken from toy car. I have the previous one and I would not change it for this one. It lacks character. Especially the entry level versions.
My mum has owned 3, a '62 plate, a '64 plate and currently on a 71 or 72 plate, because it has a registration plate registered in Northern Ireland, I don't know. My brother used to own BMW 3 series, he reckons there is more space in the Countryman.
I test drove one and liked it very much. The interior looks and feels like a BMW. Driving experience was good, comfortable, spacious and with a nice colour scheme. The screen isn't difficult to get used to after a while, and has lots of tech in it. I test drove an XC40, which seemed like a car from the 1990s. Just ordered my Countryman C after that. Cheaper than the Volvo and than the X1. Can't wait to start driving it.
Design wise the previous one will age better. I don’t get all these Chinese looks. It’s frustrating to see how all manufacturers are messing up their brand identity. I guess new buyers don’t care about it and they just want a tacky screen with flashing lights everywhere.
They’ve all sold out to china and Saudi Arabia and UAE… it’s all about chasing profits now… hopefully they will come back around to just making fun cars at some point… time changes everything I guess
Why don’t they use the name from the past. The “ Maxi “ which would be far more appropriate for a larger Mini. In the same way in the 1970’s there was the Austin Mini and Austin Maxi.
I was cheated by BMW dealership service, then to rectify what they had done they asked for £240 per hour investigation charges! Had to sell that car at a huge loss and bought a Japanese in part exchange. Never again, all BMW service companies are owned by an American conglomerate in London and South east, the faults in the onboard computer are so many and so often in all BMWs that this US company operating in UK rakes in massive profits at your cost. Beware. When driving any mini on motorways the srraight windscreen gets covered by dead bugs within minutes in summers, you can't screenwash them away. After driving a normal saloon, mini's dashboard feels like it's uncomfortably close to your chest. Though agree with Matt that their gearbox is the best and far ahead of VW DSG & so much fun, but at what cost....
