I love this video and it’s message, I really think it’s great. I really identified with it having had similar experience of growing up being a different ethnicity to others. So my take on the video is this... from where we see the protagonist as a teenager, I think it’s just a hypothetical scenario, a possible road he could go down. From where he steps out the car and sees the figure in red, I think is a metaphor for his internal struggle with his sense of identity. The red figure is performing a Chinese opera whereby masks are worn but changed so quickly that it seems instantaneous. Our guy also changes appearance so that he appears to be a different person. This isn’t necessarily literal, but could be more like switching personas. I think our guy is dancing to his own tune. He tries to join with the other dancers, but he often falls and falters. On one hand the dancers raise him up, and yet they also hold him down. To me they represent society’s norms and expectations of him trying to mould him into what society thinks is befitting of him. But when he stands up, it is as a boy again, he is as he was, he is what he is.
1obsessionafteranother I had a similar thought of that. But I interpreted it like he really did grow up and got influenced by the wrong people, but when he had that accident in the haze of it he realized that he needs to go back to who he was before
I interpreted the last segment of the video as something like, "his musing or fantasy." Like his future self was something he imagined to help cope with the pain and frustration of being ousted by those around him for being what he is. It seems tempting to just give in and follow the crowd, be what's acceptable, and abandon that which others would reject. But in the end it wouldn't work out, he'd only be just as miserable-if not more. And knowing he has to still struggle through this while taking the jeers and sneers of the crowd is painful for just about anyone to take. Though at least the one feeling of peace he has is knowing he has his family to be there for him to get through it.
The waiting is painful, and I my friends have bought their tickets so they'll go to Hawaii without me =) Also I found the hoodie which was designed by John Andrew Perello who made the album art, which shared the same concept with the album! I can't understand French so I'll ask my friends if they could find a way to buy it? Check it out!👇 www.agnesb.fr/sweat-capuche-jonone
Hey....I’ve had to wait since January 18th 2017.....by the time I see them again on February 24th 2019 it will be just over 2 YEARS!!!....let that sink in....so please don’t complain about a few months. Just think of it as something to look forward to and appreciate!
I watched the video almost as soon as it came out, and as someone who has dealt with a lot of bullying and stupid people, it really spoke to me. I've come a long way as far as being true to myself, and I don't let anyone else dictate how I should look or act. ONE OK ROCK was indirectly involved in that, and the fact they've now made this song is really cool, and I definitely cried the first time I watched it. Tears and chills; that's OOR for you, haha. Anyways, thanks for the new video, and I look forward to hearing about your experience seeing them live. ❤
I'll go to the Toronto and Montreal Concert. Here is how I understood this video concept(filmed partly in Scarborough, yeah yeah Ontario, Canada) The drink and drive is not ''real''. The performer after the car crash is performing Bian Lian , a chinese art of face changing. Like Bian Lian, the kid is going through change. Being the target as a younger kid and being the bully at a older age. Change from eating Mapo tofu versus a sandwich. You might notice at the beginning of the danse the hair changing to blonde as well l. You can notice that all the dancer are in sync, but not him. He is trying to fit in. Then they lift him up and bring him down and it all come full circle. Because at the end, he is just a kid trying to fit in
ONE OK ROCK is on tour again. You should check for anything in your area. Ah...yeah, you knew. I am also going, but I'm in Texas. This will be my 4th time seeing them live. I can't wait!!!
majideuzai22 I’m also going to see them in Texas. San Antonio!! Since u already have experience on seeing them can I ask u a couple of questions since it will be my first time going. I have VIP
I got to hear this performed live at their orchestra concert last month and it was absolutely amazing! Taka's vocals stand out (pun not intended) so much more live, so that part near the end where you can hear him sort of in the background going "oh oh ohhh oh" is a lot more prominent. I think this is one of the band's best MVs. It's definitely the most meaningful, imo. There's a lot of symbolism in the video, and the dance portion does have a meaning behind it. I'm sure someone's already explained it in the comments so I won't go into it. Have you spotted all the ONE OK ROCK references in the video though? =) Also, this video was shot in Toronto! The director is Chinese as well. I totally agree with you regarding their change in sound. I love both their old and new songs. They're still the same at the core and their message is still there. They're just expressing that message in a different manner because, as you said, they've grown. I will be flying from Japan to go see them in Vancouver. Got VIP tickets so I'm very excited to meet them too. =D This'll be my first non-Japan concert so it will definitely be an experience. I'm used to seeing them from afar... It's gonna be crazy seeing them up close. PS Did you know that Taka is featured on RADWIMPS' upcoming album ANTI ANTI GENERATION? The song is called "IKIJIBIKI" and this song plus one other was just released. Go buy it! So fun to hear Taka sing in Yojiro's style.
Loved this song and it’s message and THE VIDEO bless ONE OK ROCK. Thank you for the video!!! And lmao that intro was rapid fire 👏👏👏 we love a hidden rapper.
Ryan!!!!!!! Eye of the Storm is coming! I don’t care if they change their style of music. But, the essence of them as a band is still there. STILL SUPPORT THEM ALONG THE WAY!
You want to be someone else but you never be someone else. Like they are one ok rock even someone tell that they’ve changed but they are still OOR. This is the fact that you can’t deny. Btw I love this song and mv and yes I preordered their album on iTunes already. Now still listening “Stand Out Fit In” over and over again until the rest of the songs are available next year. Thank you for reacting their works :) ps.sorry for my bad English.
I think the dance represents our choices made in life. Each move changing our outcomes in our future.. It’s a beautiful symbolism of the decisions we make in life. Ultimately the boy gets a second chance to do it over differently.
Please react to "Amazarashi" The songs I recommend are: 1) Sora ni Utaeba 2) Kisestsu wa Tsugitsugi Shindeiku I would suggest using subtitles since the meaning in the lyrics of their songs is amazing. Also please react to J.Y. Park and his songs from the almost 3 decades he has performed. Especially "Still Alive" which came out a couple of years ago. I know that you have been impressed by the Artists working under him like GOT7 and I would l also suggest watching his songs with subtitles.
I love this song too! The melody is so beautiful and catchy, and the words are so OOR. I strongly hope that many people who don't know OOR yet listen to this new OOR song. As for the interpretation of the MV, It's already commented though, I think the ' Maskchange" dance is something like a question to himself like" Is this really what I want to do in my life? " and the kid in the last scene is a metaphor for getting back his identity. This MV is deep and meaningful.. Actually ,I was able to listen this song live at their concert they had in Oct. Taka's singing voice there was beyond amazing !Breathtakingly beautiful ..(T_T) Enjoy the concert there ! I already look forward to your blog about it and the reaction video to the album " Eye of the Storm " !
I visited your channel for the first time, but I liked how you reacted and showed how you got to feel this song. I felt it's very honest coming from your heart straightforward feeling:)
I love this song. I was emotionally struck by it. I'm also really happy cuz I found out that they'll be a couple of hours away from me in 3 months. I'm planning on going cuz I need to see them live.
I am going to live at Paris next month . I wish that they play this song... btw, pls react RADWIMPS - IKIJIBIKI feat.Taka (ONE OK ROCK) It is a new song. Taka sings in Japanese.
One of my theories that shared about the final scene is that we were in a sort of "what if scenario" created by the kid. Like he imagined a future where he tried to fit in, be the kind of person that was acceptable to others while slowly rejecting his cultural roots. But in the end it clearly wouldn't have worked out, but it's still apparent from his expression at the end that he's so frustrated with his life no matter what he will do. But his one comfort regardless of how he leads his life is that his family will be there for him when he needs them.
MacRyanMac they have been a favorite of mine for a long time. My family thinks I am crazy, but their style and mix of linguistics is beyond phenomenal.
I interpreted the last segment of the video as something like, "his musing or fantasy." Like his future self was something he imagined to help cope with the pain and frustration of being ousted by those around him for being what he is.
Great video, as always. Also, you should react to Plastic Tree. They’re a visual kei band. Three songs I like by them are “Mirai Iro” (you’d have to search “みらいいろ”), “Alone Again, Wonderful World”, and “Zetsubou No Oka”.
It's good to hear that you have pre-ordered Eye of the Storm and bought ticket for the tour in Toronto. While you're waiting for them, please listen all songs of MY FIRST STORY's new album, S • S • S and make a review video. I'm sure you've bought it. 👍 Just remind you, MY FIRST STORY new song will come out on December, 5th (I guess) featuring Japanese female singer, Sayuri.
if you look at the lyric, you'll know the meaning of the video. It shows an Asian who grew in America got bullied by others and then tried to fit in others' lives. The last choreography is another way telling the whole story, he changed his hair to yellow, eyes to blue. And tried to catch up other people's dancing, but always fell down. The little red guy who was changing his faces was showing a traditional Chinese magic. It was delivering the same message. In a word, this video is trying to tell the story of Asian Americans or any other immigrants.
i love ur reaction! i love u supporting oor no matter what. coz they change. but their music still f***ing amazing! btw he chanhe face to represent how he try to fit in. blonde hair. blue eyes.
I love One Ok Rock and this song is now one of my new favorite songs from them. Don't forget to see SiM's new vid Diamond. And please react to the visual kei band D, they released a new single and video called Deadly Sin.
You should also check out SPYAIR's recent song "I Wanna Be." Unfortunately there isn't a full music video, but they do have a full song and a short PV. I'd recommend listening and watching both. ☺
So jealous that you get to see them early next year! I'm still waiting for them to tour Asia again. Now onto the video, this one keeps summoning my onion ninjas. It's kind of strange how I identify with the protagonist even though my situation is kind of reversed - I'm a third culture kid and it's been ages since I returned, but I STILL feel like an outsider in my own home country. Even if for most intents and purposes I look (though not sound) like everyone else. Admittedly, I miss their heavier sound. But we all grow and change, and what good would artists be if they didn't? So I totally respect that. And I do really like both Change and Stand Out Fit In (ahhh those high notes!). I just don't expect to be able to play the new album on repeat like I do with heavier music, although I'm sure I'll still enjoy it.
Highly recommend the math rock band JYOCHO, amazing band with songs that just make you feel good. Also interesting to see a band play with a flute. You should check out their songs "a life with the sun", "pure circle" and "A Glass of Night". They have very aesthetically pleasing music videos too.
Plz react to IKIJIBIKI/RADWIMPS feat.Taka!! I want you to be surprised what Taka is like in this song, so I don't say much of it. But I'm sure you'll definitely like it!!
You're going to their live♬ I'm looking forward to your report ! And you can call them "One okay rock" because they introduce themselves "One okay rock".
i really love this song so much because i could relate to the lyrics and video... having to live and transfer school in the US is hard because not only you have to adjust to the society but also hard to fit in the school. For someone like me who had a hard time making friends and missing my friends at my old school is hard T_T thankfully i wasn't bullied and my school and schoolmates are understanding and help me adjust. PS LOL I have the same shirt!! hopefully they had better t shirt design when they went touring again next year>A
I looked up the possible meaning behind the Chinese Opera performer who the kid sees after the accident, nd the closest interpretation I got was that it was a shamanistic character who gave blessing for either a peaceful safe passage into the afterlife, or blessings for a better tomorrow. I really want it to be the latter of the two. ☹️
I really love your reactions and how you accept oor changing. I kind of feel sad whenever ppl just say they changed and becoming a pop band. I still believe oor has a same spirit and they are showing and shouting out with different styles. I’m an Asian myself who lived abroad for many yrs. I was that kid in the mv and hurt me watching this lol. Oor always have strong messages that make ppl’s heart move. Of course the sound and music is important as well but I hope ppl(especially oor fans) try to listen and understand more about the lyrics before complaining about the styles if they r real fans. Btw let’s wait patiently for their upcoming new album(if only we can lol)
That dance part after the car crash is a traditional Chinese/Japanese Xiqu dance to signify that times change. (The masked figure dressed in red represents a performer from China Sichuan ‘face-changing’ opera or Bian Lian in Mandarin Chinese.) Basically, the story states the hypocrisy of the Asian kids about how far they would go to fit in and stop being an outcast (aka they would bully others) and that this has got to change / there are other ways...which is through cultural understanding. We can keep faking to be someone we are not to fit in and get ourselves killed or realize that one day we could be popular again, just in a different form. Modern Asian Hip-Hop actually draws a lot from Ancient Chinese dance signifying a cultural return. From a political standpoint China is rising again like a phoenix but they got to be careful not to lose their way.
I love the new song, so thanks for the reaction! I loved Change as well, and I'm excited for the new album too! :D Pls react to the Pillows? Song recommendations are Funny Bunny, Comic Sonic, Ride on Shooting Star, Thank you My Twilight, Hybrid Rainbow. edit: for some reason it's just really adorable and funny when you hit your mic and apologised to it. XD
Please react to a relatively unknown band from Japan, sokoninaru (recommended songs: tenohira de odore, reprogram, metalin) Japanese writing: そこに鳴る「掌で踊る」【MV】 , Re:Program, METALIN
OOR's new style still amazingly good instead of having a preference for old song because it's more rock than pop but anyway as you said their live is always better than the record was with more rock and high note voice ^^
You should really react to sokoninaru, they are like a combination between ling tosite sigure and hello sleepwalkers In my opinion their best songs are tenohira de odoru,re:program and indelible time
Also I tweeted this to you but I want to just say it here without the character limit. If you wanna get to know more about Dreamcatcher, can I recommend that you follow 7Dreamers? We are on lots of platforms (twitter, yt, tumblr, instagram) and do translations as well as just share information about what Dreamcatcher is doing. I am their Japanese>English translator for social media updates as well as interviews/news articles for things originally posted in Japanese. I was a fan of this group's work for a year before I joined them so I highly recommend them for anyone who is even just on the fringe of caring about Dreamcatcher since we do a good job of introducing the members to the fans on all of our social media. If this helps even one person to love this amazing group more, it was worth it to post this comment, even if it isn't you Ryan.
Stand and fit in 😍😍 coz u want to accept and fit in and u want to become like them.. drunk and drive. Unbully to bully them. Change ur hair color to look cool.. 😣😣 correct me if im wrong. Enewey its my first time to post my comment here but i always watch ur vids reaction. 😊😉
@@MacRyanMac No problem! Also, you should check out Aiolin! They're a visual kei band that uses both piano and violin in some of their songs. "From Here" is a great one. You don't have to make a video either, just go listen to them lol
One of the best explanations I've seen, thanks for that : )

Thanks! But it’s really just my interpretation 🙂
I interpreted the last segment of the video as something like, "his musing or fantasy."
Like his future self was something he imagined to help cope with the pain and frustration of being ousted by those around him for being what he is.
It seems tempting to just give in and follow the crowd, be what's acceptable, and abandon that which others would reject.

My only complaint is like I have to wait for 3 MONTHS for the album, 5 or 6 months for Japan Tour AND 15 months for the next Asia Tour.
SAME!!! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT 3 MONTHS AFTER THIS?!?!?
The waiting is painful, and I my friends have bought their tickets so they'll go to Hawaii without me =)

It is a new song.

Right?!?! they are sooo good!

Unfortunately there isn't a full music video, but they do have a full song and a short PV.
Yet it remembers me bedroom warfare from the Last álbum (maybe my favorite song of the album) except the chorus which was very poppier
PS
LOL I have the same shirt!! hopefully they had better t shirt design when they went touring again next year>A
Love your work man. There's not many UA-camrs who do these kinda videos. PS: can you please give Kenshi Yonezu a try, you will not regret it.
6:09 Your Canadian is showing here
MacRyanMac Now that I have your attention, Yonezu Kenshi reaction please
Subscribed! Cute, funny and amazing : D
I'm headed to the toronto concert
See you there!
@@MacRyanMac Hopefully I do!
SHINee’ Key just released his music video feat. Crush - One of Those Night. I really love your reaction of shinee 😭😭
Btw let’s wait patiently for their upcoming new album(if only we can lol)
in the end our parent will see us like a good kid even we grown and change
alot
That dance part after the car crash is a traditional Chinese/Japanese Xiqu dance to signify that times change. (The masked figure dressed in red represents a performer from China Sichuan ‘face-changing’ opera or Bian Lian in Mandarin Chinese.)
Basically, the story states the hypocrisy of the Asian kids about how far they would go to fit in and stop being an outcast (aka they would bully others) and that this has got to change / there are other ways...which is through cultural understanding.
I love Japan
I love the new song, so thanks for the reaction! I loved Change as well, and I'm excited for the new album too! :D
Pls react to the Pillows? Song recommendations are Funny Bunny, Comic Sonic, Ride on Shooting Star, Thank you My Twilight, Hybrid Rainbow.
edit: for some reason it's just really adorable and funny when you hit your mic and apologised to it. XD
Al menos sabes que los vas a ver pronto lo 😥 en sur América no sabemos todavía!!!
You should check out Kizu, they're a visual kei band. They are also pretty new, but they will blow you away.
Please react to a relatively unknown band from Japan,
sokoninaru (recommended songs: tenohira de odore, reprogram, metalin)
Japanese writing:
そこに鳴る「掌で踊る」【MV】
, Re:Program, METALIN
OOR's new style still amazingly good instead of having a preference for old song because it's more rock than pop but anyway as you said their live is always better than the record was with more rock and high note voice ^^
Please react to Tsukiko Amano. She's so unknown while her music is so amazing
Also plz react to the band called “Polkadot Stingray”

Yey my favorite guy
I like Tha they change too, kinda gives off an old imagine dragon vibe, that's a sound that's not really explored in jrock
Ill (maybe) see you Feb 28th😂
Nice!
Thanks!
@@MacRyanMac No problem! Also, you should check out Aiolin! They're a visual kei band that uses both piano and violin in some of their songs. "From Here" is a great one. You don't have to make a video either, just go listen to them lol
Me voy dando cuenta que todo le gusta a este MEN xd
Much better than Changes imo
I do love this, and that song is just as amazing as the rest. But this one has something really sentimental.
