This is an old story that does not mention more recent information which explains Rommels successes due the the Bonner Fellers code breaking coup. Though this narrative seems to be all about tanks, at the battle of El Alamein the main obstacles to the British victory were the 15 Million Axis mines sown and Anti-Tank guns. Post war research claimed that anti-tank guns caused more damage than Rommels tanks which by late 1942 were not significantly superior to British tanks. El Alamein was a historic defeat, one of the greatest suffered by the Axis which sent Rommel retreating 1,200 miles from El Alamein in Egypt to Medenine in Tunisia, one of the longest single retreats ever!
