      When I was on the vegan trip back in 2021 I too thought kidney beans where the thing. It left me with heavy bloating and cramps. But the worst thing was that grass powder. One day I thought it to a good idea to triple the recommended dosis. I felt like wanting to die that night. I just wanted to have it out of my digestive tract so badly. I will never do this again.

    It was not explained that 100 gram of meat does NOT equal 100 gram protein.
    100 gram meat contains only about 22 gram protein depending on the type of meat. The rest is fiber.
    Daily protein required for a 150 lb person is:
    Convert lb to kg: 150/2.2 = 68 kg
    Daily requirement = 0.8g per kg body weight: 0.8g X 68 = 55 gram protein.
    Grams of meat required to consume 55g protein = 55/.22 = 247grams of meat / fish

      There is one essential problem- keto and carnivore people say 0.8-1g protein per 1lbs of your (wish) weight. It makes double of that in kg. Some simply say one needs about 100g protein per day. Dr Donald Layman has a calculator for protein. Judi from Nutrition with Judi has made wonderful tables for how many protein and calories one needs to not be undernourished. I think it was Judy.. if not, then it was Lilly. Worth watching both of them, anyway.

    I was really into fasting but now I have been spreading out my meals more.
    Most important point: get at least 30 g of protein at your first meal so you can switch from catabolism to anabolism.

    • @CarbageMan
      @CarbageMan Рік тому +3

      I'd say get at least 30g in EACH meal, and make sure they're spaced apart. Per Gabrielle Lyon, the ideal would be five hours apart, but if doing 16/8, you could probably "get away with" 3 meals approximately four apart. I go back and forth between three and four meals, and don't do TRF every day, but when I do it's somewhere between 16/8 and 20/4, often 2MAD. I rarely eat OMAD, but I do skip whole days of eating on occasion.

    Just got out of hospital from having shock wave lithotripsy with a bleeding ulcer thrown for good measure. I have been keto and/or carnivore for over 3 1/2 years losts 70 pounds and kept them off. Reason I am commenting is the menus were terrible pudding, regular yogurt, jellos and maybe if you found 3 ounces of meat protein on your plate My family brought in bone broth to help me out some but my blood sugar level with just one testing was 5.7. Could that have been that high because of my pain? I didn’t eat over 4 for carbs per day. When are hospitals going to help us with diet instead of hurting us?

    Finally some solid guidance, yet I do have more questions. How much protein in the subsequent meals? 30-60g? How much time should elapse between meals? What is an ideal overnight fast? I did OMAD for a quite a while and I lost a LOT of muscle mass while I was losing weight a few years ago. I think I stayed in that catabolic over night fasting state too long each day (23 hours). Too much at the OMAD, wasted. If I had it to do again I would not have done OMAD. I also lost a LOT of bone mass in 3 years.

    So, it doesn’t answer the question or give guidance as to how to figure it out for yourself. And at the end, it talks about breakfast, which Dr. Cywes says we can freely skip. Some mixed messaging there. And a frustrating video without any answers of any kind.

    • @ellek6505
      @ellek6505 Рік тому +6

      She said "first meal of the day." That is "breakfast," BREAK-FAST, no matter what time you eat it. Hence the little joke at the end about "breakfast." There was a lot of guidance in this video. She said no one can tell you precisely how much you need. The method of nitrogen balance is controversial, but is the best we have at present. (I think Dr Cywes uses this method.)
      Yes, you have to try some things and see how you do. First meal of the day should contain 30g complete protein to trigger the building of muscle tissue after a long period of overnight fasting, which means the body is in a catabolic state after a long fast. There was mention of evidence suggesting that the body can only use 30-60g in a meal for building muscle. She admitted that is a pretty big range--thus the high variability between people. Any excess protein/amino acids will be shunted to energy use/storage pathways (glucose/ketones, glycogen, fat).
      A person trying to build muscle or to prevent age-related muscle loss might eat 3-4 such meals per day. A person trying to lose weight might eat 2-3 such meals per day. Some people can do OMAD. I do wish she had touched on how much time should pass between meals, and how long the overnight fast should be, as a starting point, or how much protein should be in an OMAD.
      I suggest you listen again, take notes, stop and start the video as needed to take notes--that's what I did. I also watched the video 3 times so I didn't miss anything. Skip the protein educational stuff at the beginning if you're not interested in that, or in the progression of protein recommendations between the 1800's and today and the US current recommendation of 0.8g protein/kg body weight. But the bottom line, "all we have are guesses."
      The recommendations part of the video starts about 12 minutes. If you want more precise recommendations you need a consultation with Dr Cywes. (You had to know this video was going to mostly point to a plug to make an appointment.)

      100% agree with you.
      Layman gives answers.
      First meal whatever time you want minimum 30 g of ideally animal source protein. He prefers 60 gs.
      Dr Boz will tell to eat closer to morning to use dawn syndrome and finish eating max 5 pm.
      Layman: around 1.6 , 1.8 of protein per kg of ideal body weight.
      Minimum 1.2
      Can go more if strength training etc
      2,3 meals.

I really don't go out of my way to get any other protein, and I eat two or three meals a day depending on my work load. I've also been getting more eggs and other low-hemoglobin protein sources in my diet than I used to, to avoid iron overload, and I've been avoiding eating tremendously more than 30g in a meal to avoid gluconeogenesis. It is "comforting" to see this video and have the practices I've finally arrived at confirmed. It was very difficult to get a handle on this.
