I remember listening to this in the early 70's with my girlfriend, we were slowly falling asleep and this song came on the radio, it was raining softly, sadly, we were on shaky grounds but oh how I loved that girl. In my heart I knew she wouldn't be with me much longer. She married another, and my heart has been broken for years, I never got over losing her. I dated briefly after she left but I could never fall in love again, I resigned myself to living alone for the rest of my life, I ran into her 6 weeks ago, I hadn't seen her for 44 years and she looked exactly how I thought she would, some grey hair but that's about it, still in great shape and her face hadn't even changed. I suggested we get together for coffee sometime, how I hope that happens...

I play pool with a good friend of mine he is 72 and im 54. When he comes to play pool at my house I try to make it special and play good old country music for him in Pandora. I have Ray Price radio station in Pandora and every single time Ray Price comes into play music he ALWAYS says this... this man can sing as he proceed to sing along. I hate to think about the day when he is no longer here with me 😑.
That's why recordings are so important. And one reason for becoming a FCC engineer for a new radio station - when I was a young-un! L O L
What a great song, sung beautifully by so many artistes including Ray...Al Green (the first one comes to my mind), Kris Kristofferson (the original), Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley and many others. Always sounds good.
I sing his songs at nursing homes for the folks, and they always perk up when they hear his great numbers. I can only hope I sound this great 16 years from now. He was 81 at the time of this concert. I took so much of these great singers for granted when I was younger, but so grateful that I found them.
He sounds so good....his voice is so clear and smooth than when he was younger....wow

My wife and I were literally at that same concert where the video was recorded... It was the last concert of the tour in the Rosemont Theater if I'm not mistaken. I have the DVD. What an outstanding show. Both Ray and Merle have passed on... So sad... Let's remember them.
This is the best he's sung this song imho . Mr Ray Price is like fine wine .
I think they're rushing it, Ray is of course nailing it, but there are better versions.

You don't know how many times I played this song when I was a new-divorcee. Now it doesn't bring back all that bad stuff; just the memory of it; much like "comfort food, L O L Thank you for giving something good out of all that tragedy. Your voice will always be remembered as my "good medicine"!

Ray Price was as GOOD as GOOD gets... PERIOD! Put that in BOLD print and underline it a hundred times! I heard Willie Nelson say in an interview that during this Last of the Breed tour, Willie and Hag were sitting together backstage watching Ray sing and Merle turned to Willie and said "That old son of a bitch just gave us a singing lesson"! To which Willie replied "Yes he did son, yes he did". When two of the biggest legends of American music sit in awe of someone that is really saying something!
