- 1) Don’t rush to throw away your old curtains. They will still serve you.
I have curtains hanging on all the frames instead of white calico blinds. They prevent the sun from penetrating inside.
But I didn’t sew them on one window. And today I urgently took up this matter.
I will sew them from old curtains that are about 20 years old. They used to hang in the old apartment. I really like this color.
To attach it to the window, I will use a time-tested method, using textile Velcro.
- First you need to measure the size of the window, i.e. the size of the curtains.
- Cut out the fabric taking into account allowances.
- Hem the sides of the curtains, and then the top and bottom.
- Cut a piece of braid, taking into account that it will hang on both sides.
- Sew it to the curtain in two places. The width of my window is 75 cm.
If the window is narrow, then the ties are sewn in one place, in the middle.
- Cut 5 pieces of adhesive tape, 6-7 cm each. It consists of two parts.
- Sew one part to the curtain, and glue the other parts with instant glue or second glue to the frame.
These pieces on the frame will stay there and last for many years.
Now there is a type of Velcro on sale, where on one side there is already an adhesive base and it is easy to glue it without glue.
- I placed a wooden stick on the bottom of the curtain so that the roll could be rolled up.
- When it’s cloudy, you can lift the fabric and tie it in a bow.
If you do not use the rail, then assemble it with your hands and tie it.
To keep the rooms cooler in the summer, we remove carpets from the floor during this period.
Have you noticed that no matter how hot it is in the rooms, the floors always remain cold.
Maybe this is absurd, but it seems to me that when the house is clean and the floors are washed, the air becomes cooler and the temperature drops.
2) How I glued curtains to the windows. Non-standard ways of attaching tulle.
I have cotton curtains throughout my house. At the end of the season I take them off, wash them and put them away until spring. I already wrote that they are held on by textile Velcro. They make the rooms very comfortable.
Today I want to show you 3 more unusual ways to attach simple curtains to windows.
Method No. 1
- Sew a curtain to your size. Tuck the fabric at the top to such a width that a glazing bead or stick can be inserted into it.
- Prepare self-adhesive plastic hooks.
- Secure them to the window.
- Place a curtain on a stick on the hooks.
The number of hooks and the length of the stick depends on the size of the window.
All is ready. It turns out very neat and simple. The hooks stay on all the time. They are invisible.
Method No. 2
This method is suitable for sash windows that open.
- Sew the curtain to the size of the window.
- Hem the fabric at the top and bottom and insert an elastic band.
- Tie an elastic band into a ring.
- Now the most interesting part. Stretch the elastic band with the curtain around the window. Up and down.

Method No. 3
Great for shading balconies on first floors.
Here you will need old tulle or lace. We'll glue them!
- Measure the size of the glass (namely the glass, not the entire window).
- Cut the fabric to this size.
- Add starch. I added 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of starch. This amount is a lot. It's better to do half a portion.
Put water on fire, stir starch in a small amount of cold water.
As soon as the water boils, pour the diluted starch into it. Interfere. The mass will thicken. Leave it to cool.
- Take a brush and spread this glue on the glass.
- Glue the tulle, smoothing it with your hands.
- It sticks well and evenly. It turns out as if a translucent film had been pasted on.
- When it is no longer needed, the tulle can be easily removed. You can wash it and use it again.
- Wash the window.
That's all I wanted to say. I hope you find these tips useful.
3) How to reliably and cheaply close windows from the scorching sun and keep cool. To do this, you need to go to a hardware store.
Foil-coated polypropylene is sold in rolls by the meter and comes in different thicknesses. But in our case it will keep it cool.
Before buying, you need to measure the size of the window. We took the thinnest one, 2 mm thick, the price for 1 meter with a width of 120 cm was 45 rubles. Our window size is 80-138 cm.
We will make “blinds” that can be rolled up in the cool season and left on the window until the next season.
You will need two more wooden slats.
How to do:
- We cut out the strips to fit the width of the window and the foil of the required size.
- Using a stapler, we attached the screen to the rail so that the film was turned towards the street.
- Another bar was also attached below.
- They put a rope on top of the top bar and hammered it with a nail with a head. The rope will keep the curtain curled.

Очень всё понравилось. Особенно последний вариант. У меня окна на самом верхнем этале на восток. Ослепительное солнце с 4-ех утра. Никакие шторы не спасают. А тут такой простой выход. Браво!!!

Вот так заклеили окно тюлью на крахмале и можно окно не мыть с улицы,если оно не открывается. Идея с резинками очень понравилась

Задумалась...что в первом варианте можно было бы сделать ленты на всю длину занавески, а вниз нацепить зажимы, похожие на те, что идут для курток. Проще будет поднимать и опускать "жалюзи". И закручивать не надо, пусть сами гармошкой складываются!..
А ещё можно внизу палочку с ручками сделать, крутить за них и потом цеплять на специальные крючки...чтобы с верёвками не возиться...
