Burning Spears Arrival to Malawi

- Iconic Jamaican roots-reggae legend Burning Spear has arrived in Malawi, landing at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) ahead of his performance at Civo Stadium on Saturday, 26 October.
The 79-year-old musician, born Winston Rodney, is performing as part of his ongoing One People Africa Tour having performed in Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Zambia.
Special Advisor to the President on Creative Industries, Q Malewezi was at the airport to welcome the Marcus Garvey singer.
In a brief interview at the airport, Burning Spear expressed his excitement about performing in Malawi for the first time. "I expect people to come out and have a nice time. I’m here to do something nice musically for the people,” he said.
One of the highlight was when Rastafarians welcomed him outside the airport with a lively procession. Together with the artist as he played his drum, Nyabhingi Chants Choir and Band sang Rastafarian Chants.
Lilongwe Bikers Klub led the parade as they escorted the Legend.
Burning Spear, born Winston Rodney in Jamaica, began his music career in the 1969 and is known for his influential 1975 album ‘Marcus Garvey’. Over the course of five decades, he has established himself as one of the pioneers of roots reggae, releasing more than 20 albums with his latest work ‘No Destroyer' which was released in 2023.
