One of my favourite films. Totally unknown to the mainstream but it has a score to die for, a cast of the highest calibre, a story of real working class life of the 60s.. i cant believe its not hailed as a classic
The closing scenes of this film are very moving. The son sees his dad crying and says to him "whats the matter dad" and the dad says "its life son, when your young it makes you laugh but when you get old it makes you bloody cry ".Wish they would put it on tv ,haven't seen it for years.
very true i have not seen this film for donkeys. The other poignant part of this film is when father and son are having the arm wrestle. This and the angry silence are two films i would love to see again
I've just watched it on Talking Pictures TV. It is a wonderful movie with fine acting performances from the main actors/actresses. Despite the somewhat heavily stereotyped characters and the mundane backdrop, there is something of these characters in us all, which instantly warms you to them. A very heartwarming film with a truly moving and unforgettable ending.
This film and Spring And Port Wine are from the same time and filmed in Bolton. They are both sort of kitchen sink too. Love them both. (And What's Good For The Goose).
Wasn't too much bothered about Pollyanna or the Swiss Family thing,, but you know , it was there in the early days and it kind of stays with you , Great to know people still appreciate the actors we grew up with.
@@Tommyblueeyes I think John meant the 1960 film,The Swiss Family Robinson, based on the classic novel by John David Wyss. John Mills was cast in that film, but not Hayley. As far as I know, The Family Way was the only film John and Hayley Mills appeared in together.
I first saw her in The Parent Trap when I was 12 in 1978. I had no idea she and The Redgraves where Britian's First Family Of Acting. I later Read and Saw Great Expectations and then I remember briefly watching Juliet Mills in Nanny & The Professor then as Tabitha on Passions. Her Husband Maxwell Cauldfield would later act on The Short Lived Dynasty Spinoff The Colbys, All My Children and the UK Soap Opera Emmerdale.
Can you imagine how cool and sometimes demanding it must have been to have your Father one of the Greatest Actors of all time next to Laurence Olivier and still have your own name and steam.
I remember watching her in The Parent Trap and she saw Ricky Nelson. It's amazing how The Nelsons and Mills Family were icons in Show Business. The Nelsons did The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet and Ricky, David and their Mother were on the Cover of a brand new magazine called TV Guide. Ricky's Father didn't allow him to do American Bandstand because he was scared he'd lose sponsorship if his Son did a Show featuring Juvenlie Delinquents dancing to that awful colored music and he covered Fats Domino's I'm Walking. Wouldn't it be something if it were discovered that they were distant relatives of Stephanie Mills and The Mills Brothers.
Look at Google images of Haley Mills. She was rapturously beautiful! Very strange to me that she looked like that and yet was hardly ever seen, once she'd passed 16 or so. I wish I could see this movie, I never have, can't even find a DVD to buy. Murray Head is in this, I'm dying to see that. :o)
Also, still 'rapturous' until her 20's, when her looks went downhill. Some women peak early; some 'middling'; some late. With most Ares sun sign women, it's early.
Jenny should have Kept quiet about their personal marital situation and not tell others about it. (Mistake) Handing out with that other guy on the bike. Her new husband got jealous. (Another mistake) Made him behave like an animal near the end.😡 As a result.
Am I the only one that thinks there is a resemblance between a young Hayley Mills and a young Letitia Dean (Sharon Watts Rickman from EE)? I've always seen it, since I started watching EE in 1986.
Thanks so much. When I look at the life of a UP and Coming Young Lady in the 1960's in Britian to The US it's so different. In The Uk as seen in Saturday Night & Sunday Morning Arthur Seatons Girlfriend Doreen works i a Factory in The US we see Movies where Women are trying to make a name for themselves in Hollywood like in Valley Of The Dolls.

john lewis lovely gentle nostalgia for some of us, great subject, matter, gone full circle when you have all your family living with you😆

The final scene when it all becomes clear to the father is wonderful.
First film i ever saw. I went with my best friend to a little cinema in Ely in Cardiff. It was the best film ever.

Great movie, well acted John Mills is terrific, one of my favorites
Hayley Mills, still rather lovely, my first love, as a young child saw her in the Castaways and was enchanted by her, must have been 6 or 7☺

Very good to see. Thanks for posting this gem.
この映画音楽を担当したポール・マッカトニーが、すでに当時からロック・バンドの一員にとどまらず、才能豊かなアーティストで あることを感じさせた素晴らしい作品でした。😂

My favourite film!! :-D .xx.
Some of us thought Hywel was rapturously beautiful. 💖

Best film I have ever saw
This film features on TalkingPictures TV on Freeview 81.
Great movie!
Can you imagine how cool and sometimes demanding it must have been to have your Father one of the Greatest Actors of all time next to Laurence Olivier and still have your own name and steam.
My home town Bolton! A rather groovy '60s version of it though! ;-)
Best film in the history of cinema.
I've seen "The Family Way" just ONCE,and I gotta say...Hayley & John Mills are great!!! I just wish I had this DVD. Can anyone help me?
It is readily available on dvd , and quite cheaply too, if you look on ebay or Amazon. I bought it last year.
Love this film
Hayley went from kiddie roles to suddenly being quite adult in this film.
You know I had a thought. She would have been perfect to have played Dawn's Mother in the UK Version of The Office. She reminds me of her.
I saw this when I was 15 and instantly fell for Hywell. 💋

I like Hywel Bennett and Hayley Mills, I wanna see this film!
I bought it on dvd. it's well worth seeing
'Lovely film. Being 12, this movie cost me 50 cents at the theatre. Massive crush on Murray Head (debut in this movie) resulted.
Always been a fan of Murray Head since this film ❤😊
The score was written by Sir Paul McCartney.....
The movie, not the above compilation, lol
Thank you! I don't think that's true but it sure is a compliment haha :)
父役のジョン・ミルズ素晴らしい役者であることは、映画「ライアンの娘」で
立証済み。😮
Question: If Billy, not Ezra, impregnated Lucy 'on her honeymoon,' then how is Geoffrey explained?!? Major flaw? Or am I missing something?
two sons, different fathers, which explains the chalk and cheese personalities.
is that where this was fimed?
Jenny should have Kept quiet about their personal marital situation and not tell others about it. (Mistake) Handing out with that other guy on the bike. Her new husband got jealous. (Another mistake)
