I wonder if ship tractor beams will make vehicles like this more viable. Maybe the vehicle tractor beams being close is even why they are making this thing now, though Im not sure if I believe in CIGs planning ability enough to really think that.
i love the idea of a one player light tank, but a light tank bigger than the biggest tank ever build (the maus) it has no ground clearance a tiny rock and it will get stuck. i think its even wider than the ridiculous big nova tonk.
Some thoughts: The S3 gun isnt really an issue to me. If its a proprietary gun, that means it can be balanced specifically for the needs of the Storm without effecting the balance of other vehicles. We already see this with the Nova, with its S5 gun being significantly more powerful than traditional S5 guns. As a light, single man tank, as long as it can effectively destroy light ground targets (Cyclone, Ballista, Ursa, etc) and low flying fighters than I think it'll be sufficient. I think CIG knows it needs to be able to fit in more ships than the Hercules and similarly sized ships. While I suspect it wont be strictly "Rover" sized, I'm thinking ships like the Valkyrie, Corsair, and MSR will be able to fit it. If it does require something like a Hercules or Liberator or something of that nature, its dead on arrival. If someone has a large ship like that, chances are good they will have a large crew, and if you have a large ship and a large crew theres really no reason to not use a more capable Nova tank.
As long as it fits in a Carrack vehicle bay, I'm absolutely set. I got my hands on a BIS Carrack last week and am looking forward to using the shit out of it lol
I think the thing that is going to make or break this vehicle, is going to be the controls, rather than the size of it's gun. If this thing controls like all the other vehicles currently in game (like the Nova, Cyclone, Ursa etc), then the storm is toast. But if they make it control like an "FPS" style control scheme, where the player controls the gun's looking direction and the tanks movement conforms around it (ie WASD works forward, backward, strafe left, strafe right (physically turns the tank's body and drives forward/backward while the players sights stay on target) and mouse movement "turns" the tank left and right), then the Storm could easily become the most dangerous vehicle in the game. Anything less than that, and virtually every other vehicle is going to eat it for breakfast because all other vehicles either have at least 2 separate people to control between piloting and gunning independently, or in the case of other solo vehicles (like the nox, dragonfly etc) are all hover vehicles, meaning they already have the FPS style control system. Either way, based on those facts, if the Storm comes out and controls like all other tracked and wheeled vehicles currently do, it's doomed to fail. It won't have the maneuverability it needs to engage the Nova while on the move like the Nova can. And it won't have the agility it needs to defend itself against small vehicles like the hover vehicles. Requiring it to constantly run, stop, shoot, run, stop, shoot, unless in a direct chase, which you'll never want to do against most vehicles, especially the Nova. "It's not the size of the gun that matters, but how you use it" Yes I know it's cliched, but I had to say it. One, because I just knew someone would be laughing and say it in reply, and two, because it is actually very apt to this scenario. I really like the concept of the Storm, but I feel very strongly that the control scheme going is going make or break this vehicle. If this is a single player combat vehicle, it's going to need an FPS style control system (like the Nox, Dragonfly, and Hoverquad) or it's going to be dead on arrival. The double-barrel S3 gun will be fine and honestly, if used right with a competent control scheme, it will be very competitive and most likely, downright deadly. I can not stress strongly enough, that it's the controls that are going to make or break this vehicle. Not the size of the gun.

Another question would be it's weapon, at least in the current system a single S3 energy gun has less DPS than 2x S1 (= Ursa Rover). The Nova got a massive buff on it's "S5" gun, if the storm doesn't get similar treatment it's pretty much death on arrival. Another thing that bugs me is the lack of utility. The Storm has plenty of wasted space, but can't even store 1 SCU.
The Storm Tonk is still a stupidly big tank. It’s a low very wide so most ships cannot carry it. I hope they slim it down a bit so it can fit into more ships. You shouldn’t need a capital size ship to carry it.
Been waiting for the Q&A on this. I couldn't test fly the Fury's thanks to endless 30018 and bugged/no fury in arena commander during fleet week, and I bought them untested. They've yet to wow me, so one of them might turn into a STORM if the info pans out.

Ammo might not be an issue, but in the future, fuel will likely limit the longevity more in this smaller tank than it may in the Nova.
If it only has one gun, it should be a size 4 or 5

It's a twin size 3 autocannon, it's not exactly lightweight on firepower. Not crazy, but it's ridiculously fast and agile compared to a Nova.
