Holy cow, best video "chapters" (timestamp functionality, and LINKS to the chapters!) I've ever seen! And your DETAILS, the engineering and the "why" you did things. So much thought and cleverness everywhere. Thank you!!!
Good god, the detail, care, placement and assembly of all the items, gear, and parts you put into this build is incredible. On a side note thanks for your other video of your old Alucab explorer canopy, I recently got one on my diesel ZR2!
This is a nice thorough review. The best Alu-Cab review on UA-cam. I am getting one installed on my Ram next month. I'm glad to see the bug mesh is now available. This winter and next spring I will be chasing the 70s from the Rio Grande to Upper Nevada.
The ZR2 AEV Bison with the diesel and red is an amazing spec! Anyways Alucab seems to be one of the better camper shell/roof tent makers out there. Hope it continues treating you guys well, and safe travels.
LED lights were at the bottom of the list but now everything is pretty much dialed I may eventually throw some proper LED headlights/housing on. I’m not just going to swap to the LED bulbs only and call it a day. Doing just the bulbs looks terrible especially for oncoming traffic. I’ll do a proper swap eventually.
Very sweet set up I live on the road full-time using a tundra pro with ATOVERLAND ATLAS pop-up camper and a small trailer very well organized you are be blessed
The Canapy Camper just appears to be so durable and tough with copious options to make it your own. Great idea on the roof too. Nice option. The rear bumper also. I guess you could buy or make another bumper that is like extended 12-16' that could act like a small porch with some additional storage options in it.
Great review I like that you went with cabinets and not drawers. I like that there is more floor space. Thanks for the idea. Speaking of locking the door is ther a way to make sure some nefarious person cant walk up and lock you in by closing the outside latch?
Hmm..Ive been told by a few that if you lock your outside latch in place while in the unlocked position, it makes it a bit more difficult to lock you in from the outside. The good thing is if you do get locked in you can just jump out any of the bed area zip out windows.
$11-20k (and your clearly on the highest end of that range), man that’s a sweet sweet setup, but takes a few to swallow that price tag..however, when some roof top tents are $4k alone, it puts it into some disturbing perspective. Problem is, I still want it :) great video.
Lol @ I still want it. Thanks for checking out the video apologies for wierd camera angles … Cool thing about the Canopy Camper is that it starts at a very competitive price when compared to other options out there… Then you can just add on as you go. I love to tinker and make stuff better so it’s a great platform for all those tinkerers out there. 😉
Have you have tried to take hobby gear like one or two bikes or windsurf gear with you when you wear camping? I guess you could mount one surfboard to a side of the alu cab but I don't know about bikes.
Very clear helpful video. Can you share who did installs for you, for the cabinets, electrical, heater? I live in Portland not far from you and I am hoping that I can employ the same.
Great vid, very well thought out! Thanks for your time. If the heater did melt part of the screen on the side door would it be possible to replace it easily? Also how wide are your seat cushions/goose gear boxes? How wide is your middle alley? Whats under the prototype panel at the 28 min mark if you dont have the goose gear panel there? Do you plan on doing any type of shower set up/hot water heater set up? Thanks!
Yep easily replaceable screen. Goose gear storage cabinets are 12” wide. Middle is just over three feet wide. Nothing is under panel just blank space.. I have a shower setup, I use Geyser Systems portable shower.
This has to be one of the best builds that I have seen, the attention to detail is impressive. Now with that said; there's just one thing that sticks out... and that's the fuel reserves for max range. Did you add an auxiliary tank? Personally I would have to go the opposite direction with the expedition one dual swing out which gives me the ability to carry 16 additional gallons in reserves for a piece of mind.
I have 5 gallons of additional diesel I take with me just in case. I can always add more if I am doing much longer backcountry routes. The small Diesel engine gets amazing MPG for the setup I have.
AWESOME RIG!!! Retired US Marine, who misses living and surviving out in nature like in the old days. I’d rather worry only about the occasional bear incursion, vice standing watch all night for insurgents! Bear Spray vice Beretta M9!!! If you don’t mind me asking, what is the price of the ALU-CAB with the choices that you have added? Also, is there a website that could help me find the options for a 2015 Toyota Tundra 5’ 6” truck bed? Thank you and really appreciate your video. Sorry…mean to ask if a “Max Air” fan is an option? Semper-Fi!!!
Good job, man. I have never seen a gas bottle mounted like this before. I don't even know if that is legal in my country. I guess the bottle would have to be crash tested and the gas hose would have to be secured so nobody can damage it with a knife or something. (This could be a problem especially when camping in a urban/touristic/crowded area.) Do you need some kind of permit for the gas bottle mounting that you have to show the police when they stop you? I just looked up the price for such a cabin here. It's over $13000 + shipping just for the cabin. 😅
Hey do you mind telling me which size exped duo 10 mattress size fits in that camper? there are 2 sizes one that is 40 inch wide and the other 52inches wide? Thanks in advance
Man I catch something new in this video every time I watch it. The marine step is genius. What handle did you mount on top to grap ahold of from said step? Cheers!
Not really but the suspension did feel a bit floaty around corners but a Hellwig sway bar fixed this issue. Handles so great now even good off road, sway bar doesn’t really limit too much travel. But I’m touring and just off-roading not hardcore rock crawling.
hi, I want to ask you a few things, can you give all the names of the upgrade products or accessories that are in your canopy camper and if you can I also want to ask for the purchase link, if it doesn't work here, I will chat with you on Instagram and bay the way im in indonesia
A super review. I looked at the Alu-Cab gear at Overland Expo east this weekend and saw a few builds almost identical to yours. Are you concerned that road vibration over time could rub a hole in your gas line and do you have a mitigation in place? I thought about it with each of the furnace builds that I saw but didn't think to ask any of the owners.
A point of trouble I have with the Alu Cab Canopy each time I'm thinking about one is the fact that there is no window. So if you want to use it in cold weather and be comfy with your fireplace you find yourself in complete darkness (or non natural light...). How do you handle that ? I really feel this camper should have a few windows or at least some transparent plastic on the tent part.
Best detailed video on the Alu Cab Canopy Camper
Thanks Benjamin.

Thanks for the kind words. It’s been really a lot of fun getting the camper dialed.

Just stumbled by your video this morning while drinking coffee your rig is very well set up also noticed you’re Washington plats Great video
Great job covering all the details!
Great tour of the camper - thanks!!
So cool to see the door molle in action :D Awesome walk-around video!!
Bad ass set up! Love it.
Fantastic video and explanation of your set up! I really appreciate your attention to detail.

@@HudsonZRoamer BTW I loved the new add-ons you did to the camper.
Great video man. Just ordered mine so was fab to see how you use it. Happy adventures from over the pond. 👊🏻
Love this, my dream setup. Truck and all.
this is gold... thank you. lots of ideas
Thanks for sharing
I’d add a fold down table on inside of rear door and side windows on the side panels.
Amazing rig! Awesome video! Incredible detail/info!
Thanks a ton!
Nice set-up.
Love the detailed walk around!! Great info and I’ll be reaching out to you in Oct for some cushions.
Appreciate you checking it out. Yeah just hit me up on Instagram if you want any box cushions made.

I'm planning to get a canopy camper in the next few weeks. Question I have can you fit in a normal size garage. My truck is my daily driver
How did you attach the bed rug to the metal? Nice build, very functional and clean
Looks very well set up. Any idea what your gvw is?

@@HudsonZRoamer Thank you for taking the time to respond!
I like to know if dust gets in, and rain, anywhere in the unit?
I am waiting for your answer back, I like to purchase Alu Cab.
That door can wear out quickly due to the weight and movements.
How was off-roading with all that weight? Does the Colorado handle it well?
Like it ! Seems like it will work well ! What was your ballpark cost excluding the truck ?

Very nice. Do you still use the stock shocks, or did you have to replace the shocks in the back (and front) to handle the extra weight?
Nice set up. Im In the process of getting mine together in the spring , Is your truck a 5 or 6 foot bed

Thermodrop thermometers.
How's the wind noise with the camper?
its there but not too bad..I do plan on installing a wind fairing on the front of the roof rack eventually.
Joli !
Nice job with this video man! Does the Megamat require deflation for packing up? I know with the Alucab tents it does. Thanks!
Partially deflated.. when I get up in the morning I just release the valve while I’m laying on it and it’s good.
