Cyclone Winston has created a massive swell, and every now-and-then a huge set comes through and catches swimmers (and photographers) by surprise.
A few minor injuries (cuts and scrapes on rocks, bad bruising) were observed on adults and children, caused by this set of waves and several others. More severe injuries were being reported in the same area later in the day. Lots of families from India visit Kiama for their holidays.
I lived in this region for 27 years and this rockpool has claimed a few lives during rough seas. One tourist got swept over the safety chains and drowned.
The worst incident was back in 1993 when a rogue wave smashed into a family of 7 picnicking on the rocks nearby, they all drowned (one dads mates sons had the horrible task of getting their bodies out of the water)
Its a bit a dangerous area when the surf is pumping and you must keep in mind, the nearest hospital is 15kms away.
+daz par I have lived there forty years and remember that day very well. shame they were all indians with no common sense for the huge swell that was cutting between the rocks. they shouldn't have been there in the first place.I remember jumping in the blowhole all the time when I was a kid.how things have changed now
+David H that was a Saturday (from memory) & it was a cold and overcast day. One of the most tragic accidents in Kiama history (a year later 2 more family members of the Indian clan jumped in the same spot and died.)
Tourists please be careful...you may be in holiday - mode but a little common sense does a go along way keeping your family safe around these areas around family
+daz par I might come here - so it's not safe?
+DragonHelix PvP just make sure there's no rough surf and go on summers day...it's nice and safe to swim in (of course when the surf is not pumping.
+daz par Thanks man, appreciate it.
Watching these guys makes me feel anxious. Reading daz par comments below confirm this. I always remember my grandpa conversations with me when I was a kid. He grew up in a sea side port where his sea captain grandparents passed the wisdom onto him. I'd be happy to share them with you.
1. Always always respect the sea.
2. Ask trusted locals about their respective coastal waters.

Well done Greg..
0:24 y'all see the real man save the girl, pretty sure wasn't even his kid
Wow! We were just there last week. Lovely, lovely pool... those waves would have flushed everything out!
I live about 14 minutes away from this Rockpool and I go there like every two weeks! For anyone wanting to swim there no need to worry, just as long as you stay in the rock pool when waves are hitting or on dry land, whoever was filming this was standing on steps. Also the chains into the distance, be very careful when walking on those as there covering in slippery seaweed and if u get swept from there, ur gone!
who the fuck would get in that with waves like that. get washed so fast
youtube name the big rock in front of the pool breaks the wave and all you have left is water falling in to the pool. No dangerous wave afterwards just lots of water. It's honestly safer in the pool than outside of it.
where is this place?
Australia New South Wales
youtube name There are gates
Just stay IN the pool
*_"Look out, that wave is going to be yuuuuuuge"_*
0:44 guy bottom left swimming to the ladder but never gets there....

I experienced this at Sharks Cove on Oʻahu. The way out is very rocky and there's a lot of reef there, so I couldn't just get out quickly when suddenly huge waves were coming in out of nowhere.. I ended up losing one fin and my goggles and I had a few cuts but it could've been worse, this really is dangerous
I know...i lost a brand new Chruchhill flipper at Redsands due to a bad decision on a bad day to surf (this was 20 years ago)
Calvin Krause are people afraid of sharks
Calvin Krause 9
Calvin Krause poor baby
A shark being washed in to the pool would be amusing.
Yeah agreed :D
Nick Gilbert there is a video here in UA-cam of a croc getting in a pool where people is if interested 😊

These people need to know about the tides!
Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.
Done that before and I loved it. I wish I still lived there.

Giant old man with speedos was like...here.. hold my beer, I´ll take care of this shit before it get out of hand
@0:28 that man's like "Ima pick up this brown thing floating around" lmao

@@camoi18 yes literally I am the guy saving that little girl..
Find me on Instagram at gregory.twigger 😁
Guy in the left with glasses😂😂 pro swimmer at 0:43
For me it's one of the dangerous tourist spots that I know.
🤔🤔🤔At :06 minutes a huge wave hits. Keep an eye on the guy closest to you and farest left of the screen. This guy was struggling desperately to reach the girls on the ladder. The video ended with the guy remaining to fight for his life. I hope his ok. Prayers!!!!🙁🙁🙏🙏🙏Sweet Jesus!
Looks fun but extremely dangerous, someone could have been swept away in the open ocean
Not only that but you can get dashed to pieces against the sharp rocks.
My friend and I were here once (I am in Kiama in the cabins a year later right now) aand we had a wave like that but it was just me and her. The wave got us from a high rock and we nearly got swept into the ocean. I had sneakers on and my friend had thongs, she got deep wounds and I got a couple of bad scratches
0:28 他の子を助けてあげてるって事?!
ジェントルマン!カッコいい😭♥️
The Kiama blowhole was even better; silly tourists literally drenched head to toe and losing their cameras when leaning over the railing to take photos. Respect the blowhole - it's claimed a few lives over the years.
Woooow!!! God's elements are not to be played with. Hope no one was hurt. 😕
That's terrifying!
The thumbnail is actually real for once 😐😐😐😐
Yeah, I took it a short time before this footage was taken. The wave you can see in the background of the thumbnail was actually bigger than the wave in the footage, and almost swept myself and my camera away. It was a big day.
Flying Pig noy
How do they keep sharks and jellyfish and other marine life from washing in over the rocks
that place looks really cool!
That looks like good fun for the kids! However being tossed into the Pacific seems a little hazardous...
Shout out to the guy I saw pick up two kids who were barreling past him.
Seeing this its fun but also dangerous
And parents laughing at it wow .
Nic video 🥰👍🤝
That looks so fun! I would totally go in that!
K!NG G3ORGE and at the same time terrifying lol
you wouldn't want to! i live near there and people die from being swept off the rocks
@sadie andzola I’ve done it before, it’s amazing but freezing
hi,
magnificent video!
have a good evening :)
Que onda gigante. Pessoal corajoso🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Corajosos nada.isso é pedir pra morrer. As pessoas infelizmente gostam de encarar a natureza. Onde acabam se dando mal.
a real natural wave pool!!!!!!
Nah I would be out in a second... very scary 😱
Somebodys wig and flip flops float by at 0:53! Lol
This would be scary but the pool is next to see so what do expect.
0:28 the guy in black shorts saved that girls.life
cece saleh yeah right that good to help each others
, I'm the guy in the black shorts
This is soooooooooo amazing. Very impressive!!!
Did she say "far out" @ 0:33 ?
Yeah
Haha i always say 'far out' xD
you are so lucky to enjoy this
Don't you love Australian life ..
I think it's in Hawaii
Kiama is an Australian town.
Not Hawaii. Aussie accents.
Ernests Lapins nope. its about an hour south of sydney. i live like 20 minutes away from there and was at the blow hole that day!!! haha
I did exactly this when I was a child .. it was fun to hide behind rock ledges while a huge wave broke over it. Aussies are used to it .. but notice the chains surrounding the pool in the background.
Grandpa needs some shorts
Nah good on him
💀
that looks so incredibly dangerous for kids. What the hell you people!
No. We're used to this in Oz and we're confident water people.
🇦🇺
The ocean is never a safe place.
Yeah we have fukt up sharks in our waters worse than waves
This happened in New South Wales. Were any humans hurt in the filing of this video?
Why weren't the people/children told to go to safe area?
Could of gone down disastrous..
i love this pool, you only get a couple of scratches if you hit the rocks
the other people in the comments are overprotective
Wow nice 👏👏👏👏👏
I wouldn,t be swimming there with waves like that kind of risky
oh wow, I can't wait to have children so that I can take them to dangerous places like that...
0:40
kid: crying
mum: i told you it washed up here
yup, defs australia. harden up kids, the world needs stuntpeople !
That looks. More of an ocean than a pool
It’s a pool of ocean waters
Can't understand why they are taking that much risk. This should have been closed. If somebody is drowning, nobody will notice.
Awesome video.
Looks like a fun spot.
Wow I always go there for holidays and camping
this looks amazing, I'm from Canada the lack of sunshine has my vitamin D levels plunging to dangerous levels lol..down the road, not across the street...
The safest place was in the pool, not standing on the side.
Adoro esse tipo de vídeo. Parabéns
Легкомысленные люди , смешно им 😱
La naturaleza es lo mejor que nos pudo pasar a la humanidad !
great .... 3 advert boxes that cover up large portions of the video but without any option to close them
My grandparents live in Kiama.
Yeah. That looks safe.
well Ds a huge wave..
even a good swimmer would easily fall under its trap
This is the most amazing thing in the world
What a disappointed, there's no way I can get to watch those really interesting mother nature videos on UA-cam
It's amazing what you see, when people don't know they're being videotaped. I bet they'd die of embarrassed! LOL!
1'000th sub!!!
That was a sick swell at The Bone Yard (surf spot). The swell got bigger threw out the day.
Nice jayga very nice..... Oof ki lagche dheuta
Well this is a kind of pool with an active jacuzzi.
Edit:wow thx for all the likes.
that wave came from the fed....washing away my 2016 returns...I have a video series documenting it....its a tale of fire and ice
They got some fresh water in the pool
This pool is for waves, stone walls, and they also look like beaches.
This is the biggest pool ever. These rogue waves are super huge crashing by the stone wall.
i like this video where is ithis place !???
We have waves like this all the time in Hawaii
That looks like so much fun XD
Wow super👍👍👍
I'd be running for my life
0:31 She thought she could get away with a quick and subtle wedgie pick, while no one was watching. She was wrong.
hahaha... well done, you made me click it!
Omg people could have got hit on the rocks😳
When it came over me I would be like "goodbye cruel world" and go under water
I'm the guy in the black shorts
I have never seen a rock pool before
this is a great spot👏 is this Maui what's that called of that place
Wave: u WiLL nEvEr eScApE
people: AaAaAaAaH
well, you can get a bigger wave in Dreamland beach,Bali,Indonesia...BTW,it is just my opinion
i remember that day!! i was at the other side of that area lol
I absolutely would love to be there!!!
Essa "piscina" parece bem divertida, porém, muito perigosa!
Someone’s hair piece was floating around. 😂
Lol the chancla is swimming😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I would be terrified if I saw that up close
