EASY Chord Soloing With Johnny Smith's Chord Soloing Concepts | Jazz Guitar Chord Melody Lesson

Here are three great chord soloing ideas and lines from Johnny Smith that we can explore and integrate into our own playing! The first concept is the idea of repeating an idea verbatim, just changing your chords to fit the progression. The second and third concepts are different ways to use smaller intervals(like thirds) rather than entire chords as a way to create melodies. Hope you enjoy!

I listened to Johnie Smith play this song an awful lot back in the 50s/60s. He played it in a trio, guitar/bass/drums! He played in a very fast tempo. I think the album was titled “Designed for You”. There was a beautiful version of “ I’ll Remember Clifford”, composed by Benny Golson on this album! Thanks for posting! 6:13
