Southampton's statement: "Going into the start of the season, we all knew the challenges that we would face this year as we readjusted to life in the top flight, competing in the best and most competitive league in the world. "However, the reality of our situation is clear."
Should have been sacked 3 months ago. He abused Southampton as a platform for the supposedly "progressive football". The same crap that Kompany did last year and ruined Burnley yet got himself the Bayern job. Managers like these blocks don't deserve to coach in PL. Absolute idiot who set up his team every game for loss with his shambolic tactics.
They are playing suicidal football. His tactics are absurd given the quality of player and level of opposition. He deserves to be sacked and it is overdue. He will be paid off very well for failing miserably.
The issue with these managers is they think the objective is to see a style of play… nah it’s a football club with fans and not a 38 game coaching drill for a shit managers career
@@VR46314 You haven't answered my question at all. I said: what do they expect to get out of their resources? They aren't competitive at all, so the manager isn't to blame anyway. They can get a new manager, but they'll get relegated anyway.
Guy spent the best of his career at Norwich and acts exactly like someone who thought he would play for Madrid but spent his career feeling bitter and insecure.
He doesn’t seem like a manager at all. He doesn’t seem that hurt to lose at all and that it’s everyone else’s fault for not understanding his team lose ‘the right way’. He’s not good to manage a sport’s team, seems to have an unhealthy chip on his shoulder. However, he’s the most famous and richest person in his village of unknown middle class peeps.
@ If you’re spanked 0-5 by half time, they are entitled to. An analogy would be if an American refuses to drive in the right side of the road in the UK and keeps being warned before eventually being banned from driving.
@ yea but I’m the guy to choose a side. While he’s naive and ughhhh dude this is the prem. But still. Have to feel sorry for the bloke for being stubborn like my coach smh.
@ nah I’m blaming him for not having a plan B, if you are a PREMIER LEAGUE manager, you should have enough experience to adapt, he stuck to his guns with his play knowing it’s gonna relegate us, I think RM will be a good manager in the future, but for now us at Southampton this season and even next 2 seasons, he ain’t that guy
Saints are a strong Championship side. Martin did brilliantly to get them to 4th place last season, but Leeds better-deserved promotion. Play-offs are a spectacle, but they’re no substitute for performance over a season. He’d probably still be manager if they’d lost in the playoffs-offs. Wish him and Saints well.
Actually, they had significant resources last year with parachute payments and a team that had been in the PL the season before. If you want a brilliant achievement then it’s the manager who got a side promoted automatically who were in league one the season before and who little money.
saints did play well in second half.pity it wasn’t like this for most of their games.sorry we had to take it out on you this game as we got own issues too.Spurs fan here🎉😅
Ive said for ages Martins out of his league not helped by his stubbornness lack of acceptance of personal responsibility and playing players that arent good enough the 4th rate gkeeper and Stephens etc. Pplaying Walker-Peters on the left and onucho a striker in midfield.
I agree. For someone who kept saying ‘it is what it is’ in the last two post match interview after defeat is clearly showing his arrogance and naivety.
It’s difficult. Playing exciting and expansive attacking football in the championship will get you promoted if you do it well. Then, once you are in the premier league and have built a team to play this way, it’s hard to revert back to a style focused on defensive strength. Add to this that if you do get relegated after going back to the defensive style, you may find it impossible to bring the expansive attacking style back the following season to have another good crack at promotion. I think that for newly promoted teams, the step up in quality of opposition is too much to handle regardless of how you play. You almost NEED to be lucky and hope that there will be three teams who are worse than you are to stand a chance of staying up.
The only solution I can think of is to let the season ticket holders of the top 3 Championship clubs vote at the end of the season. Options:": 1. Be promoted to the Premier League and just accept that your club will struggle, get hammered regularly and probably be relegated after one season. Millions of pounds will soften the blow of being humiliated on a regular basis. 2.Spend another season in the Champoinship.
How did he get this job in the first place? I think clubs owner need to be careful how they hire managers now a days cuz some of these guys are jokers. I sense alot of them been good at press conferences but don't show those brilliant ideas discussed on the pitch. Traitors!
At the end of the day, he wasn’t willing or able to be adaptable and flexible enough to survive. Ipswich were able to adapt and beat spurs at Spurs’ own ground. That’s what you have to do to have any chance.
Perhaps it is time to let the season ticket holders of the top 3 clubs in the Champioship have a vote at the end of the season. Options: 1. Gain promotion, accepting that, in exchange for tens of millions of pounds, you will watch your team struggle, losing most of their games, with regular hammerings. Your board will sack the manager before Christmas and your best players will probably leave in January, to be replaced by loan signings. Your team will probably be relegated after one season (for the cycle to probably repeat: eg Southampton, Norwich, Sheffield United, Burnley, Leeds). 2. Stay in the Championship for another season.
Swansea fan here yes it was annoying but the love we had for him was amazing We loved him here I mean i think its a terrible decision sacking him if im honest
I don't believe Saint's players played for him last night . He has to take blame for formation but not the quality of players . There are some players that are lucky they can't be fired like most of us in the real world 🌍. Good luck Russell Martin and thanks for the enjoyable season in Championship and our only cup in years .
I think he might be a good manager actually. I only watched his team against Chelsea and they played really well with 10 men. He's probably a bit stubborn to change his style of play but he needed to compromise on his style and play a little less adventurous.
Not the managers fault these players are bottom of the league they are simply not good enough! No manager will keep them up so don't see the point in making the change!
Yes and no, we aren’t good enough for his style of play but he should have a different way being a PREMIER LEAGUE manager let me just let that sink in, premier league…
Good riddance. Arrogant manager. As a bloke he never cared about this club. Saw it as a career stepping stone, just like the foreign mercenary players do these days. He must be relieved and now he gets Xmas off too, probably somewhere nice, quiet and warm
Southampton actually beat Everton with what they have, meanwhile Arsenal are playing for a draw against them. How long until we see the headline “Arteta Sacked by Arsenal”? Please let it be soon!

Martin doesn’t live in the reality and some of us know why…and it has cost him his job and top flight career.
He was just following kompany footsteps to sign for a big team 😂😂
Correct
Leverkusen's next manager after Alonso leaves , the Martin Vs Kompany rivalry is one we all needed lol.
It’s actually a good trade off 😂. Play risky expansive football with shit teams and lose and someone higher up the league might just pick you up 😂
He’s not as good as kompany, and doesn’t have the same amount of publicity.

His a Top coach i wish him all the best
I feel so bad for him, even as a Tottenham fan. Best of luck, Russell.

He had a go but his tactics just didn't work and he wouldn't change it so he brought it on himself.

Sacked? Why? What does the board expect with their resources? It doesn't make sense to me. I wish Martin all the best in his career

can't pile on the pressure
