    Great video documenting your first experiences! The tofu, cherry switches, and tai hao keycaps are fine - but you can definitely get a lot better value nowadays with different brands. (EG A womier S-K71 which is fully built, aluminum, lubed for $89)

    Great video! Not sure how deep you’re getting into the hobby or maybe its just a one and done, but its always great seeing people get the experience of building and using a custom mechanical keyboard. Its one of those things that you won’t get it until you try it yourself. Either way, welcome to the hobby and hope your channel grows!

    great build, i would recommend going without o rings because it often leads to a mushy/soft bottom out feeling that isn't as nice as without them. If you wanted a switch with a quieter sound, i'd recommend checking out silent switches. But first try it without the o rings, it sounds much better :)

    • @vonix
      @vonix  10 місяців тому +5

      Interesting, I assumed it was always recommended to put o-rings on. I'll try it out, thanks for the tip!

    Great Video! I'm an enthusiast in the custom keyboard hobby, I've made keyboards for me and my family. If you're gonna go any deeper in the hobby or upgrade your keyboard later, I would definitely get some GMK, ePBT, PBTFans or other high-quality keycap brands in the same colour combination and get some good switches that aren't really the 'I just got into the hobby imma go with what everyone does' switches. It can be hard to know what to get when you first start, I would know xD Good luck and welcome to the hobby.
    ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING YOU FORGOT! You didn't lube your stabilisers. If you weren't a beginner that would be a keyboard sin. Make sure that you lube the stabilisers.This makes the spacebar sound rattly, like the ducky and other prebuilt keyboards.
    The reason your first switch didn't close was because you put the stem (brown bit) in the wrong way. you want to make sure the legs face the metal contact points.
    And because the switch is tactile, you don't want to lube the legs of the stem or the metal contacts because it will reduce the tactility of the switch, alternatively, you could use a thinner lube like 3203

    If ur looking for silent switches, the Gazzew white U4tx which has silent upstroke giving u a favourable sound but without a mushy bottom out and also giving u a tactile bump which by ur choice of mx browns you will like

    The silicone bowl gaskets (green silicone things) are facing the opposite way. They're supposed to face it to you because that's where u are supposed to insert ur pc plate and not facing to the case.

  • @sangu1ne0_0
    @sangu1ne0_0 9 місяців тому +3

    you definitely need to lubricate the stabs, make mods and buy good switches (lubricate the switches too) and keycaps. and it would be possible to take a more budget base for keyboard, for example qk65 or zoom65. among the switches I can recommend Gazew Boba U4T or durock koala if tactile, gateron milky yellow pro or gateron oil king if linear.
