@ Dude this video is 100% EXACTLY what I was looking for and it's only a few months old. I was specifically looking at this upgrade for multitasking and GTA 5 because my frametime is garbage. My friend used the i5-6600k with GTA and his played perfectly, so this leads me to believe it might be a problem with the mobo/bios because you and I are using the same board. I'm just curious if you fully updated your bios before conducting this test
Edit: Also do you think this upgrade is worth $130?

    Hello
This is the information and video I have been searching for so thank you ! :)
I've long had a 6600k and been looking now to start gaming on it and was wondering if it was worth upgrading to the 6700k to tie me over for a few years rather than having to upgrade the whole platform
Looking at the benchmark does confirm for me that a 6700k is a good choice. I will aim to game at 3440*1440 so hopefully less of an issue for CPU bottlenecking. However, the one thing that did catch my eye was the minimum FPS in games even at 1440p was much generally much lower for the 6600k than then 6700k and some games like GTA V showing micro stuttering which can really hurt the gaming experience. I suspect the hyperthreading does help a lot in those scenarios and given that even the 10th gen is based on the same architecture as Skylake a 6700k should see me through some time.
    Many thanks once again

if you don't wanna upgrade your motherboard and looking for a processor upgrade then I would suggest you to go for a 7700K. It will give you better performance than a 6700K. Don't pay more than 100-120$ for that CPU if you are going for it. 6600K lacks hyperthreading and does bottleneck and stutters even at 1440p resolution. So in your case optimal choice would be 7700K.

I just bought a 7700k (after doing a few days of research on cpus, it was clear this is the best possible one that's still compatible with my motherboard), and I found this video while trying to do a last minute "did I make the right call" check. Like the rif here, I'm also using an i5-6600k which I've had for 6 years, and it's definitely gotten slow, but I'm kinda curious how you were able to get it overclocked to 4.7ghz - I thought it capped at 3.9

I think that sapphire 5600xt pulse edition is good and budget friendly, also we can update the bios and get nearly 5700. So what is the most suitable graphics card do you suggest for 1080p?

      1) 5700 is obviously 10-15% more powerful than 5600XT,
      2) 5600XT has 6 GB VRAM, so if you opt for it you'd be losing 2 GB right there.
      3) 5600XT is more than enough for a 6600K but if you wanna go the extra distance (future proofing) or plan to play games with super-sampling/VSR resolution, only then opt for a 5700.

Hello I was hoping you could help me out since I can literally not find anything on RTX 2070 Super and i5-6600k rigs.
    This is my current rig:
    CPU: i5-6600k 3.50GHz
    GPU: nVIDIA GTX 980
    MOBO: Asus z170-a
    RAM: 16GB Hyper-X
    HDD: 1TB Seagate
    SSD: 250 SSD BX
    O.S: Windows 10
    PSU: Corsair CX 750
    CASE: Corsair Carbide 200R
I am hoping to upgrade to an RTX 2070 Super and a Thermaltake 3.0 120mm water cooler for my cpu, but I don't know if I should do this upgrade as I fear the i5-6600k will be a bottleneck. I currently run it on stock but I am planning on OC-ing to about 4.5 GHz.
Seeing your video, I can clearly tell that you get over 60 fps with almost any game on Ultra so I was wondering if the same would be applicable to me if i upgrade from my 980 to RTX 2070 super. I should say that most of the time I won't even have some settings on like MSAA, Motion Blur, and I usually use Medium settings for extra settings like vegetation and shadows.. My current setup is fine i can run stuff on Medium but BF:V is really terrible, even on Medium i get like 40-50 fps i think thats because i havent OC'd my CPU at all though.
My question is do you think the i5-6600k would bottleneck the RTX 2070 Super, or could I play smoothly 60+fps on any title.
Also, what do you think my chances are of running Modern Warfare (multiplayer not warzone) on a 144hz monitor. I understand I will probably have to sacrifice settings to medium and stuff but do you think I could get that if i i upgrade to 2070S,

First of all i will say that now is not a good time for any kind of upgrade to your system because intel is releasing their new 10th Gen CPU's on may 20th and expect to see NVIDIA 3000 Series in a couple of month too.
Secondly 6600K is definitely a bottleneck for 2070 Super, but u r gonna notice the bottleneck above 70 FPS mark most of the time. So playing on average 60 FPS is not a problem for that pair, Utilizing the worth of 2070 Super is gonna be the question there.
Yes you can play Modern Warfare with 6600K + 2070 Super (High/Medium settings + Raytracing off).
If you have enough budget for a 2070 Super which is gonna be around 500-600$. I would suggest you to build a better balanced system by adding a little bit more to that.
like intel i5 10500 + NVIDIA RTX 3060 (if this is what green team would call it).

@@axicuno4828 Thank you so much for the reply, I really appreciate it.
The thing is that I am about to graduate so my parents are giving me a little gift, I'm afraid that If i dont use my chance to upgrade now I wont have that chance for the next few years and I'm not sure how much longer my 980 is gonna be able to run things, so personally speaking this is the best/only time I can actually upgrade (but i still cant go above 500-600 Euros).
With this in mind, do you still advocate that I wait or just do it since I'm going to be playing at 60hz and that shouldn't be a problem for the 2070S, and when eventually I get my own money to upgrade, then I would just need to upgrade the MOBO and CPU rather than all three at once (maybe even the monitor later on), or what if I just settled for the 2060 Super instead. I do however understand that even for a 2060S, I will probably not be able to utilize its full worth.
I'm not the gamer that I used to be, so my main game every year is going to be CoD, and other old classics (CSGO, WoW, Hearthstone etc, which realistically, I can still run on my GTX 980) but im afraid that if i dont use this graduation gift to upgrade, I wont be able to do it in the immediate future, hopefully you understand my conundrum

In your case i would suggest you to go with a 2070 Super/RTX 2080 (if you can find it cheap in your budget) now instead of 2060 super because of two things.
      1) Future proofing (the obvious one).
      2) A 2070 Super would give your option to use super sampling or play at higher resolutions (1440p/4K) with DSR on a 1080p monitor and at that resolution your 6600K (if overclocked) would not be much of a problem. This would still feel like a temporary solution for a max of 2-3 years but you will be able to play any game at 75+ FPS easily.

Wait until you see what used 7700k's are selling for. You'd have to be crazy to buy one right now, man. $280 for nearly 4 year old tech with only 4 cores/8 threads. Your best bet is to sell your board and CPU while people are still dumb enough to pay good money for an i5 6600k on eBay and build a new rig... using the RAM and SSD/HDD you already have, of course. Ryzen is going to be your best bang for the buck but I don't care what brand you go with... it's just the point that you can get a brand new 8 core/16 thread CPU for the price of a used i7 7700k.
If you're a gamer, there's no point in "upgrading" to a dead end platform with only 8 threads. In another year, games will be maxing out your 7700k just like the 6600k is having problems with now. Games already push 8 threads to 95%, anyways. Then, you'll need to upgrade, again, and the 7700k you paid $280 used for won't be worth half of what it is now. Be smart about it.

First of all you would not notice a huge jump in performance by upgrading your CPU but if you really need to upgrade it, please look for other options like a 10th Generation i3 or maybe AMD'S 3300x CPU and a new compatible motherboard. You might be able to find both(new processor+motherboard) in around 200 Euros.

@@axicuno4828 Agreed. i7 6700/k and 7700/k owners haven't accepted the reality that their CPU's are not worth what they paid for them now with this new wave of 6 and 8 core/12 and 16 thread CPU's at great prices. They're still trying to sell i7 7700k's on eBay for $280... USED! But, apparently there's enough idiots out there to buy them lol. I wouldn't pay a buck over $120 for an i7 7700k. For what they're asking, I could get a 6 core/12 thread Ryzen 3rd gen CPU AND motherboard.
And that's what people should do. If you have a Z170/Z270 motherboard, consider yourself stuck with whatever CPU you have in it. You want an upgrade? Sell your board and CPU and you can upgrade to a MUCH better AMD Ryzen 5/7 3rd gen+ rig for little to nothing. It's literally cheaper to sell what you have and go Ryzen with all new parts instead of trying to buy a used 7700k that someone has ran overclocked for 4+ years.
Seriously, not to keep going on, but I can't believe people are still paying $280 for a 4 core/8 thread CPU that's almost 4 years old when you can get a brand new 8 core/16 thread CPU for the same price or a 6 core/12 thread CPU and motherboard for that price. Or if you are brand loyal even if it means paying more for less, go intel 10th gen. These 6700/7700k owners trying to sell their used CPU's need to accept reality. Sht happens.

    • @axicuno4828

It depends on the resolution you wanna game at. If you are gaming at 1080p then an Intel i7 10700K or an AMD Ryzen R7 5800X (upcoming CPU) would be a good upgrade. At 4K resolution the bottlenecks are negligible and if budget is less then an Intel i5 10600K or AMD Ryzen R5 5600X (upcoming CPU) would be a worthwhile upgrade.

    • @hqgrummel
      @hqgrummel 3 роки тому

      Minimum: 5600X, optimum: 5900X
or choose something between...it´s always good to have the CPU not being the bottleneck. 8 Cores 16 Threads should be possible because the consoles also have them and with 5600X it´s only 6 Cores 12 Threads....
