Hi Jane, I’m not a textile artist but a painter. You have inspired me in many ways. Since I am undertaking a new medium, from watercolor to traditional gouache, my focus is on wildflowers. We plant a large wildflower garden every year adding to the year before. From watching your video on pressing flowers I have decided that this would be a good way to assure that I have flower material to work from over the winter. I enjoy all your videos no matter the subject. Cheers !
Hi Jane I'm glad you're OK! I wanted to say you popped up on my you tube feed about weeks ago and I have been binge watching you since. Love your gentle, thoughtful, creative presence. You have been a balm and an inspiration. I've got going again on some of my own creative projects! Thank you
They looked beautiful Jane and always a lovely way to retain damaged ceramics which are still so attractive and/or of sentimental value. I often plant up violas in the same way to cheer myself up. ❤
I never thought to bring snow drops inside and then planting back in the garden after. I'm I'm southern Canada, and we don't have any snow drops in the garden yet, but I will try this as soon as we do! Thanks for the tip!
Lovely video. Spring bulbs are a welcome sight every year. We once saved a maple tree that was splitting by bolting it together. I also told it to stay strong and that the birds and I needed it. That tree is still standing decades later and has grown around the bolt. For a long time, we could see the bolt and our kids called it the franken-tree. 😊 Best wishes saving your plum.
Yes I’m crossing my fingers - we have taken off the worst bit and that should make it easier to pull back upright - hoping to get out neighbour and his 4x4 to help, it’s far to heavy for man power alone and it’s not really practical to leave it reclining as I did with the apple trees by the studio! Not the best time for severely pruning plums but we will do our best!
Storm Éowyn landed right here in the Southwest of Ireland, it made me quite nervous. What a noise, what violence. Here it merely warmed itself up, becoming so much stronger going West and North. My almost 2 year old polycarbonate tunnel survived, which surprised me. I was so glad that I went for this sturdy version. Currently countless households are still without power and heating.
It was very lucky that the shed did not do too much damage and I am pleased you survived the storm. The bowls look lovely finished. We have snowdrops and a couple of pink hellebores are in flower which adds a lovely touch of colour in the garden.
Thank you for this video. I’m glad that you did not have more damage in the storm. Your video of potting of the bulbs was both a reminder and an inspiration. I have not done snowdrops but I have done other bulbs and now I’m in the mood to use up some cracked cups.So thank you.
Such a terrible storm. So pleased there wasn’t enormous damage where you live. So very sad to see the damage to the various sites of the Edinburgh Botanical gardens. They have an enormous task ahead of them. Their Instagram pages make sad reading. I hope that climate change doesn’t mean we get more storms like this. On a brighter note they are lovely bulb arrangements.
It is horrible seeing the damage to all the RGBE gardens - I suspect that we will have more frequent storms. We always have storms but not of this intensity and frequency. Xx
What a lovely, and again inspiring video! I'll follow your suit and plant some bulbs this weekend in (cracked) vintage bowls I hope to find in my local charity shop. PS. What a blessing that the storm didn't do much damage.
Gorgeous pots...and just in time for Imbolc❤ I hope their sweet smell brings much joy to you home. Really sorry to hear about the trees that have fallen, but I guess as you say, many creatures will benefit from them being in the ground; and what a pity about the plastic of your poly tunnel keeping you from growing your plants. Do you use any other kind of material as natural dyes? Just been learning about using bicarbonate of soda mixed with turmeric for yellow, grass for green and avocado stones for pinks 😅 sounds like so much fun, have you tried them? Have a great weekend❤
Another great video Jane, I always look forward to seeing you in that lovely cosy corner of your home. I loved the bulb planting and never thought of using old pieces of pottery because of the lack of drainage - but I'm going to have a go. The hyacinth bowl with stones and twigs is amazing and I just might have to copy that idea. ❤
Thanks Sue. Bulbs are amazing, as long as you don’t overwater they are really happy. I filmed this on Wednesday and one of the crocus is already blooming. X
We live in Central Scotland and like you we were very lucky...Some roof damage and a power cut for a day...Trees down in the village but could have been worse ! 😊
My great uncle was an amazing gardener. He built hot beds (there might be a better name for these. They were basically a wooden frame with a lid. Could you plant your annuals in something like this for a dyeing garden this year?
Pleased you had minimal damage ,I am not too far from you and our 2 polytunnels survived in tact but the dear old (30 yrs) greenhouse exploded all over the garden , pre safety glass so hours spent collecting vicious shards of glass ! No decision made on whether to replace it !
You've still got your (house) roof... this is all that matters! Thankyou for not referring to the dog by my name, as noted I was named after an obstetrician named Dixie, so I wouldn't give an animal a human name... after all it's an animal. We can grow bulb flowers in Aus but bulbs have to be kept in the freezer all summer.
How cheerful 😊
Lovely spring bulbs. ❤
How lovely, such a nice thoughtful present for your parents. I'm sure they will love the hyacinths 😊

Feeling very fortunate xx

I may see if I can make little hoops but it is the height that is a problem as the rain and cold here really reduces flowers! X
