Hi Jerry, The tube bait works again. I've never seen anyone fish a tube bait in saltwater. I guess it's like a bucktail jig. You proved it can work. Have fun and good luck, Mickey
Summer is a great time for day bass action. They tend to roam in and out with a short period for a college try on certain days so one should always pack something for the moment
Great catch, Jerry, especially for a sunny July day! Thinking outside of the box was a good move. That tube looks a lot like a squid and would probably work as well on fluke.
Jerry, exciting day for you.. Three things: 1. White flies and lures are always a good choice. 2. I crush all barbs because I release everything. IF I stick myself with a fly while casting, a crushed barb means the fly comes right out. Also a crushed barb means the mouth of the fish will not get injured removing the hook. Which means the fish has a better chance of surviving. 3. Do you prefer mono line to braid? Thanks
Thats some good stuff Ted we all thank you for the good pointers! I generally have no preference to anything when I am fishing. I have a zen like approach and draw the best out of what I may use on the water. However, I think the mono does slow the drop of the tube and suspends it much longer then if I was using braid. In the universal and if I were to be using braid I would find some sort of work around and most likely use a lighter bait or longer heavier leader
Great job, Jerry. It takes a lot of perseverance working that tube bait, I would have switched to a sluggo, albie snax or sp minnow for finicky stripers.
Great catch! Summer/sunlight/lure...it would almost be a fish story if i didn't see it myself 🙂. I bet the tube would work in a few other colors too. Ive had some luck on similar plastics in an amber color. Strong work, Jerry! Keep castin'!
Meanwhile some guy at the other end is casting a 20 dollar pencil popper with no luck, Jerry proves time and time again it’s the angler not the equipment.

Yes! perfect for fluke as well, in addition you can rig them reverse for the squid effect. They cast amazingly good with an action that can't be beat!
Nice catch. You've earned that beer 🍺
After that, I spent the night between bush mountains! Thanks Chris!

Now you have something else to try, do keep to mind none of those lures have the same action of the tube

Give it a try!
Nice catch dude!
Sweet!!!
I was wondering if you can catch striper with the tube bait and you posted this video. Nice video
Yes, I always packing em when I fish for the flukes
Great Job Jerry ! just a quick question What weight jig head and what was the length of the tube ?
That is a 4" tube with a 1/2 ounce Billy Jighead! Drop Billy a howdy and a thanks from me!
Also you took Aton of scales of the fish when you dragged him up the rocks next time because extra careful when dealing with fish near rocks
Scales from the strike, the fish was so close she actually took the tube bait between some rocks an ran out hard!
Is that a jig head inside the tube? How is it weighted for casting? Is it weighted?
Yea slides right in you can use any old jighead thats 1/2 ounce
Where? Where? Where are the stripers?
I was at Jones Inlet for 4 hours last night... Nothin!
They come in and out no telling really this time year. Here today gone tommorow
