Sweet! I was the unlucky guy playing Sythis in the third match. Happy to be in one of Legend's videos, even if I got stomped. Love all the brawl content!
Hm I mean it's a very specific card that doesn't always apply to the opponents. It certainly has high value when it hits. But "tech cards" like that always get to have good value because they're also not reliable against all decks. Maybe it's even better than other tech cards though :) I always thought it was interesting how a format or metagame warps what's considered a "mainstream" answer vs a tech card.
@LegenVD This is one of my favorite HB decks that you have put together. I would love to see an update to this deck with some cards from the newer expansions. As always, great job!
I never normally take issue with your stellar deckbuilding, but I feel that Shadowspear is essential in these decks. The mere one mana to play and two to equip is more than worth it for the ability to end games by providing a giant creature with trample so that it can properly wield it's size. And of course it granting lifelink, +1/+1, and having an occasionally useful activated ability is just a nice bonus. Forebear's Blade is another option to provide trample, and it moving to another creature of your choice if the equipped creature is killed is very nice indeed. It's a pet card of mine, but with it costing three to cast and three to equip I know it's not actually a good include. Contrariwise Shadowspear is a very small investment for a big payoff, (closing out the game) gives lifelink to a Pridemate variant, Heliod, or other large creature so that it buffs itself, and foremost solves a primary issue with lifegain decks: Not being able to translate size into damage. (Voice of the Blessed impresses me as a major upgrade specifically because it self-solves this issue to an extent by giving itself evasion.) Having a 27/27 getting chumped out by 1/1 tokens never feels good. Summa: I consider a one-of Shadowspear an indispensable include to patch up a core weakness of lifegain decks. Great video like always, thanks for making these for us.
I had Shadowspear in there at first, but spots are tight and not being a creature is a big cost when Heliod can already give the team Lifelink. Getting chumped isn't really a concern when we're gaining a ton of life in the process and triggering various effects.
I love your historic brawl content! I even made some ajustments to your vadrick deck to fit to my taste and now its a storm deck that combos extremely well with the dragonstorm card, you search for terror of the peaks + Lathis + 2 more dragons and get your insta win. Its a chefs kiss combo 👌🏼
Mhm, explains why I played against like 80% life-gain decks today. I blame you ; ) . Tomorrow please play the weakest deck possible, so I can get in some wins, lol.
That goblin deck absolutely punted in the first game. They could have tapped krenko to make a ton more goblins sacced muxus for a red and tapped their mindstone and lands for 6 and sacced 3 goblins and replayed muxus hoping for a good enough hit and even then if they didn't they could have sacced more goblins and muxus and do it again
I'm going to watch this, but man, I haven't even got to the first game and I already feel bad for your opponents. I can already see how this going to play out.
This is how I feel when I see a blue brawl deck that still counters 4 turns in a row haha, but yeah white suuuuure indulges in the lifegain trigger archetype a lot too.
@LegenVD what were your actually W/L stats for this deck? If you can't show us lost games, it'd at least be nice to know how the deck performed in practice.
great video. I have a question and a suggestion. Question: your Brawl playlist says 3 videos are hidden; is that because they are unreleased, or is it a different reason? Suggestion: you should name your segments after the opponents username instead of Match 1, Match 2, Match 3 etc. This would give the presentation slightly more flavor and would be cool for opponents that find your UA-cam or are already fans. Love your videos. thanks for the hours of entertainment, soothing public radio style vocals, and countless ideas. You really are The LegenVD.
@@zunarcorporation1117 They kinda made me wish the cards just came with "when X comes into play, give counters" triggers and skip the lifegain entirely haha. Sometimes the color pie rules just lead to basically the same result as other colors and it feels like a drag to have to go through this performative dance of "oh, yeah I can grow my creatures huge just like Green but it's cuz of LIFEGAIN you see". Like who do you think you're kidding, White?
Hm, sure, but usually the opponent wouldn't want to discard unless they were trying to kill something anyway, certainly true in this case (not so much in a Madness deck etc). But, I do wonder if the Arena interface would help in this case by forcing you to target Narset herself as you activate the ability, which would've reminded "yup bad things could happen to this target if you don't play this right", or if it would've auto-targeted without the player realizing it and potentially led to a nasty surprise.
yea, upgraded version of this deck has no problem with lifegain prevention. This deck isn't played as much in the current meta yet still has a 90% win rate.
I didn't rewatch the whole turn play out so maybe there's a longer line of play that would've been "yes", but at the moment you linked to, no. Ajani needs 15 above the STARTING life total, and Brawl starts at 25. Still 5 life too low to ult.
The interactions of some of these cards with the higher starting life total is really stupid. Like, is Serra Acendent just always a 6/6 lifelinking flyer for W in EDH? Insanity. The weaknesses of a cardgame that relies on physical cards made from paper.
I sometimes like that and sometimes don't. Like, it's cool that a card that might've been "unplayable" in standard could be a lot better in other formats. Like "Curse of Silence always hits the commander" and many others. On the other hand cards that are just broken in a format obviously have to be banned, like Lutri was insta-banned in singleton formats since it would just be a free commander in every single deck. I guess they didn't think Serra Ascendant was that broken. You can obviously still counter-play by getting life down earlier, removing, etc. It's still pretty impossible to get it to be a 6/6 by the time it attacks on turn 2, which would be the fear if they really printed a 6/6 LL flier for W. And the fact that the opponent has more life also means the clock is longer before a 6/6 can beat them to death.
@@jovanraditiya4615 Ahh good catch. The D&D cards aren't technically part of the MtG multiverse. Amonkhet also had male angels though.
