    "Only have about 4 days". The rest of us need months to prepare for a trip like this. You just knock it off casually. Amazing.

    Just watched this video again to see how much weight you carry and how much food. Very helpful. Love how excited you are to be heading out.

    Thanks Marty. I like to stay organized for spur of the moment trips as well. Your many years of experience has taught you well. Have a great trip and be safe. God Bless.

    Rockwall! My absolute favourite hike in the Rockies! It’s a bit of a challenging walk,but the views and the geology are worth it. Hope you have fun!

    We've always backpacked with regular food, too. But we do use the Lipton sides that require milk by taking the needed amount of powdered milk in a ziplock to add with the water, then just boil up as usual. Really enjoy your videos! I've adopted your method of packaging by meals after watching them - it makes things a lot simpler on the trail.

    As always, you are awesome and thanks for your excellent education. I am a student of the Martyupnorth school of solo backpacking. I completed my 2nd solo trip a little over a week ago. Finding your channel inspired me to stop waiting for friends or family to join me and just go it on my own. So much fun just having to worry about myself and free to do it my way.
    And if you'd like to see one of your students in action, take a look at my most recently uploaded videos. Dont want to spam you with a link, but I'm sure you can find it if you desire. 😋
    Thanks again, Marty!

    You inspired me to do a 3 day/2 nighter in the Smoky Mtns this weekend. May try the rice & spicy tuna!! Look forward to your video.

    I can't believe how quickly you calculated the weight of your food.😮 My half-functioning math brain cells are impressed.
    On another note, I'm a little lower in the Rockies (SLC, Utah) and have been stuck in a hiking funk. Looking forward to your trip and hope it'll be motivation to get back out there!

    one of the best hikes in the Rockies. .. incase you forgot it is never flat. Up or down is the only way it seems to go.

    have you ever done it in mid July? If so is there typically a lot of snow and what has the temperatures been?

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  5 років тому +1

      You can certainly do it in mid-July. This is a popular trail, so all the major creek crossings have bridges. (Note: remote trails in the mountains are usually affected by high rivers in July from all the snow still melting). You will encounter some snow in the higher passes, but not enough to stop you. Weather in July is 20-30C during the day, and 10-15C at night. The draw back to July is more rain, and usually way more bugs.

    00:42 Nineteen Eighty-Four. Probably the best piece of literature ever taught in Canadian schools (Ontario), back in the day.
    I'm not really sure what sort of hay they are feeding children these days.
    Any Ichiban Soup involved in the making of this video?

      I took it off the shelf on purpose. I plan to re-read it this week. I'm doing the hike in 4 days, which is only 13 km/d average, so I'll have lots of time to read. Orwell was quite the visionary.

    Marty-you dont keep store your sleeping bags lofted? are they synthetic?

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  6 років тому +1

      They all get a good wash at the end of the season and get stored by hanging them on a hook. I only have one real down bag, the rest are all synthetic.

    have fun; are you bringing tika?

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  6 років тому

      No. Tikka has to stay home for this one. I have to hitchhike at the end of the trip, and that's hard to do with a dog.

    Does this trail have outhouses?

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  5 років тому

      Julia Hadford a few. Generally the parks in Canada have adopted the use of composting toilets. They’re not usually in an enclosed building, if that’s what you mean by outhouse. You just sit in the open, usually a good distance away from the main camp.

    Isn't a meter 3 feet? So the cliff is 2700 feet tall ? Wow.

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  6 років тому

      I double checked, and yes, the cliffs are 3000' tall from their base. They are very impressive. You can see them in part 2 of this video. Thanks for watching.

    work on the editing. if you use fade out, don't start it while you have 2 sentences left to say. and don't fade in when you're already talking. can't understand half of what you're saying if you do that.
