@70short I´m not currently bi-amping the 683 to the XPA-5, but I´v tried it some times earlier, but the XPA-5 is so powerfull on each channel that it wasn´t much too gain. the XPA-5 delivers more than 200 watt RMS per channel as long as there is power enought from the transformator. :) it doesn´t matter if the speakers is driven by a "too large" amp. it only gives more control of the speakers. ;) too small amp is worse!
@rosamond14 Harman Kardon AVR-355 is the name of the reciever. in addition I use 2 channels of the Emotiva XPA-5 to run them. the 355 is not powerfull enough to handle the B&W 683 to the maximum. :)
@HayaboostaTT But to some extent you are right. No UA-cam video can be a true representation of a speaker, but it can be a reasonable indicator of a speaker. You would never want to base your buying decision on a UA-cam video, but it might help you determine if you would like to investigate a given speaker in person.
@djgabc they'r realy good! heard them, the bass is realy powerful and sharp. the vocals are clean and smooth. these speakers can play all the music u mentioned. but u need a powerful reciever/amplifier to make them play clean. around 90-110W. but if u want to play realy loud then u should probably buy a stronger one. :P
I know what you mean I demoed the def techs and with the built in sub in the tower are great and the bypoler were great for sound but when I heard the bowers it was like no other and the low end not great but good but then they paired them with the martin Logan dynamo 500 and there it was I'm gonna do a 5.2 for the best possible
@audi200q sorry if i hurt your feeling and i am not the best in the world. Let me re-comment here: In my opinion B&W' 683 is one of the best speaker in the world for it's price range. Krell or Rotel will go great with these speakers but they are expensive. No coments on your receivers I bet they are good otherwise you wouldn't keep them.
@m7floyd iv got the 685 and i have the new rotel rb1552 and rc1510 and some 15 year old audio quest cables and im happy im actualy looking at getting these but how much beter will the mid range and highs be compared to the 685
@SubL0ck I will admit that it is not the moste refined music I've played on this system... :) only for physical demonstration. I don't see the reason to upload a video with the system playing Agnes Obel or something, I would recommend to listen to CD kvality or better if you are on the mission to REALY listening to music. youtube is not that place my comrade. ;)
@dj54321kl what kind of amplifier did you use? I´m sure of that you know that many amplifiers don´t handle the low Impetance(ohm) that theese speakers drop to when you play loud. that is often the reason for amplifiers to go into protect mode, because the poower consumption gets to high. most recievers are to small for the B&W 683. for example, Onkyo 809 isn´t powerfull enough, and that is a powerfull reciever when played in stereo. :)
you have the XPA-5 behind the UMC-200? what do you have otherwise? cables etc. it's hard to tell, but I don't think it's the cabling, it shouldn't have THAT much impact to the sound... have you checked the polarity of the speaker cables and the signal cables? if one of the speakers get reversed signal the low end will equal out.
How are you getting so much low end out of the 683s, I have a similar setup but only difference is I am using umc-200 as my processor. Could it be my cabling?
Well of I'm to get these I'm really thinking not to but I can't stop thing of them and I really want them i m probly gonna spend the money but if I was to I'm getting a pioneer elite sc-75 225 watts per channel heard it it really puts the speakers up there like 1600$
@m7floyd like i cear what you think... the only reason I don´t remove your comment is for everyone else to see what an ass you are commenting around like you are the best in the world..,
I really want to buy a quality system but don't think I should spend 6500$ bucks I heard the b and w but I keep thinking I should are these wow every time you play them
the B&W 683 are good speakers with great balance and clarity, but If you want an exciting speaker with lots of grunt you should choose something else. :) they also need stupidly amounts of power when you get close to maximum volume levels, so you can't get away with a mid-level receiver if you want to get most out of them. my friend have PSB Image T6 and Onkyo TX-NR 808, I think a similar setup can be a good setup if your not a complete audiophile freak... ;)
Georg Kristoffersen thanks for the information. The local dealer showed me the 683's and the Paradigm monitor 11's. the 683's did not have much punch although sounded very elegant with classical music. 11's had a bit more low end.. which might come in handy while in Home theater mode along with my definitive sub. any thoughts? if I go with the 11's I hope it wont get muddy but on the other hand the lack of low end on the 683's with the sub... just might be the best combination. thanks.
I can if you do it right. If you play too loud, the auto-level control clamps down on the volume level, which only distorts the sound more. Playing at a more reasonable volume can show how good your speakers are. Sorry, don't mean to sound nasty, but you are not showing us how good your speakers sound, you are showing us how far you can make the woofers jump. More power to you, but that is not the measure of the quality of a sound system. Still, all that said, ... great system.

Makes a change to see someone testing their speakers with something more complex than the usual plink plink plonk
@SubL0ck When you get yourself a pair you could play what ever floats your boat. For now the sound system is his and he'll do as he please.

@audi200q are you bi amping those speakers to the axp-5 is that to much power?
I have the B&W CDM 9NT , considering upgrading Rotel to XPA 5 .
How did you wire your fronts bi-wire ?

You don't need to bi amp with that power holy fuck

you are disrespecting the b&w's by having emotiva and harman kardon
whats wrong with emotiva?
Such a good system for such a shit music. Lol, what a joke :D
My farts sound more musical than this wtf.
