I can understand Manisha...I am going through something similar...where the positions I am being offered, I am overqualified for them and the exams I wanted to crack, I couldn't. I have the same overwhelming feeling of not knowing where my life is heading.

I believe there must be many other ways to attain whatever you want, maynot be the good old conventional way but by traveling the roads not taken .

About the asst prof part, I heartily agree. Just keep looking out for vacancies in colleges. You'll definitely get in. And please don't worry, I'm telling you from my experience of all these months on contract, the job will make you a hundred times more secure and confident in yourself. There's no one path to a permanent position but most colleges have grant-in-aid vacancies coming out occasionally. If you serve for some duration in the same college, they'll definitely prefer you over an outsider. So try that route as well. And you'll get some actual experience doing what you love in the meantime.
But I also took the unconventional route. I taught at a school for a year before getting into this college. And even that helped! You're right in whatever you decide. So don't worry too much. We've all gone through this state of not knowing what to do. You're amazing. You'll get everything you want. I KNOW THIS. ❤
