The larger building that had sliding doors. I believe it would be a hardware/feed store.
The next town north is Grass Valley. Totally worth visiting
Great video, very interesting thanks for posting 👍
Thank you for watching!
Your voice is so soothing to listen to, and the sceneries are breathtaking. It's likely I will never be able to travel to this area. Many Thks for doing the trip and video it.
I like the little town of Fox, Oregon. I knew it when there were two businesses still operating and then there is the old church.
Ooooh, thank you - I'll have to look that town up and put it on my list 👍
@@InvestigatingtheNW It's between Condon and Mt. Vernon. We have mining claims just north of Prairie City which is a kool town to visit.
Hello Fox is south of the town of Dale correct if so I know some one that got married there .went thru there going south from Ritter hot springs hope I am right 🤔🇺🇸
@@robertsnyder5149 The Sumpter rail way used to go to prairie city I believe the depot or car is visitor info center now 🤔
@@casedoumasr656 It's between Long Creek and Mount Vernon.
Love this , thank you .
When I visited Kent I was informed the stone structure across from the gas station was the town water well. They built the stone building to house the well pump. If you look at the roof it still has the hatch way for the pump shaft that originally was driven by a 30ft tall windmill. The windmill and its stand toppled during the Columbus day storm and when they started to attempt to repair the well they discovered that the water was contaminated so they tore the pump out of it and poured dirt, old bricks, rock and capped it off with a 500lb iron plate 10 inches thick by 3 ft in circular diameter. The reason there's no door is they had to remove it to lay the plate on the well and just didn't bother to put it back together.
HI Sean, I got my information from the book "Ghost Towns of the Pacific Northwest" by Phillip Varney
I always wondered what that dome structure was across the street from the gas station now I know thank you
No problem - I love researching these places!
Someone took the panels off the gas pumps maybe stolen or took them off so they wouldn’t be stolen from the price of gas maybe late 70,s
georges studio was an old man that made cement statues.
I've enjoyed your videos, however I'm curious as to where the cemeteries for these towns are??? That would be important to document as well... safe travels, thank you sharing !!!! From Molalla...
Thank you for watching! Great question - I actually posted a video about the local cemetery for Kent. It's about 1.5 miles north of town 👉 ua-cam.com/video/x3tMOyn0ivg/v-deo.html
There is a big white building in town, possibly a school or church. I’ll take a picture of it the next time I’m in the area. I’d like to know what it is.
That building is a gymnasium. It was for the Kent School. The school was due north of the gym, about 100 yards. The school burned down, I believe, in 1985.
Just so you know. That's not a silo, it's a grain elevator. I'm curious, does a railroad still serve it? I didn't see tracks. Is it closed? In the grand scheme of things, it's fairly new. 1940s/50s or so.
Thank you! I learn so much more from the viewers than I am from the books. I do believe the tracks no longer exist. I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.
The elevator is still in use today. The railroad suffered extensive damage during the 1964 flood, and the Union Pacific ended service. I can remember seeing the workers removing the tracks in 1968.
