Thank you so much for mentioning the smell of the metals pens! I haven't heard that from any other influencer yet & was just about to order a brass pen. I immensely dislike that smell. You saved me!
Glad we could help :) The strength of the smell will most likely vary depending on the exact brass alloy used in a particular pen. Sometimes, manufacturers put a transparent coating on the brass that prevents oxydation and also that smell. -Frank
the funny thing is that the penny smell is not the metal, it is us. As our oils sweat and other things break down, the metals pick up electrons. The same with blood, it doesn't smell that way unless it comes into contact with such. An untouched metal object doesn't have the smell, you can clean a penny of your oils, or other people's oils and try it yourself.
great video! I think I will purchase that brass version today :) Also, if you like the look of the polished metal and don't want it to patina, there are jewelry waxes you can buff into the surface to protect them and keep them looking nice so that you don't have to polish them as often!
I bought a brass Kaweco sketch up clutch pencil and wanted so much for the smell not to bother me as I absolutely love patina. Couldnt do it though and had to return , the smell was too overpowering for me. Other reviews on sites had warned of that but I needed to find out for myself. This was a very informative video. 🙂
Ordered one of these pens 2 days ago. I wanted a take anywhere fountain pen and i wanted to see how the patina came out on yours. I have a sheaffer prelude i was bringing with me to the office for a while but honestly its a very delicate pen. Plus i wanted something with a screw cap so that if the pen were to leak, it wouldnt be at the expense of my clothes. So here we are, brass pen on the way which will clearly patina beautifully and be a great pen for every day use. Be it at the office, or when im working on building something at home.
Ha. I’ve been carrying a chunky copper ballpoint at work for a few years and every time I hand it to someone to use, they can’t believe how heavy it is. Personally, I love it. A heavy pen means the weight of the pen does part of the work for me. Not to mention how warm it is to hold and admire.
I have a Brass Sport (it is a nice pen and I like it), and well, the smell really takes getting used to. So I was close of buying an Ink v2 in Copper, and I quit. beyond that, I have no problem with the weight, patina etc. Thanks for the comparison.
Brass and copper are antimicrobial metals and that alone makes them desirable. I have a Kaweco Supra in brass and love it. I've not noticed any smell from it but then again I'm not shoving it up my nose. Its purpose in life is to write with and belongs in my hand.
I loved my brass pen. Stopped using it because brass pens still contain lead. Been looking for a new daily pen for a while now. Sad about the brass, I like the look and the weight
That was fantastic information, I watched a lot of videos about brass and copper pens and none of them mentioned the smell, which is actually a migraine trigger for me, 😮💨 phew, crisis averted!! Thanks so much❤️✨🙌
Have a Kaweco brass sport. Best decision ever! Superior, weighty, vintage looking (ages well with a patina) - very well made. Fine nib from Kaweco is well tuned as well 👌🏼
I’m surprised that most brass/copper pens are so heavy! I found a vintage pen made of brass but it’s extremely lightweight in comparison to the Kaweco Sport. Must’ve been a lucky find!
What an excellent, helpful, complete video and presentation. I love copper and stainless steel, brass not so much. Wish you had included steel here, as well. Aluminum is very nice, too. I have the Kaweco and Karas pens in steel and copper. They are built like battle tanks. And clearly made to last for a lifetime. I also think pens made of these metals also have an antique charm and beauty of their own. Of course, the inevitable patina has much to do with the appeal of all-copper pens to me. Thanks for this review. I’m sure it helped a lot of viewers learn and better understand the properties of these metals, before hastily buying any of these metal pens.
@@thepennook6325 …Oh, Kaweco has a few solid quality pens of made fully of copper, brass or steel. I have a pair of them. And yes, you deserve every praise for this review. It will always remain relevant for years to come.
It depends of what you mean by "durable" and also what brass alloy and steel you are comparing. As a rule of thumb, brass is more corrosion resistant than non stainless-steel but is softer than steel. Thanks for your question!
Are Titanium and Steel pens heavier or lighter than brass and copper pens? Would be interesting to see a comparison. Good info! The smell isn't something I have heard from other channels. 😇🩵🙏🙌

I sprayed my Kaweco Brass Sport with 4 coats of lacquer. Smell eliminated, shine preserved!

Great to hear! You made a great choice

You are absolutely right, the smell really is something haha. Glad you still like them :)
Yes. Wow are they heavy! My Pilot VP is a mere 30 g.
I got myself an all-copper Karas Kustoms Ink fountain pen with a broad titanium nib. Though heavy, I absolutely love using it!
Very good choice! They're amoung my favorite pens ever :)

Absolutely! It's an amazing fountain pen :)
Hi, where did you buy it from?

Maybe it uses a thinner barrel? The Kaweco uses a pretty thick tube. Anyways, the important is that you like your pen :) what model is it?
Plated?
@@thepennook6325 Most of vintage pen don't use copper and brass, they use like carbon or aluminium
I just got copper ink v2 and I feel invincible when I write with it. Such a powerful pen
One of my all-time favorites :) congrats on your new pen! -Frank
Copper Ink V2 by what company?

I don't have a raw steel fountain pen yet but it's on my list! Thank you for the kind words :)

Realmente interesante.
Gracias.
You have satisfied my brain hunger.thank u
That's insane weight difference. I won't be able to use brass for anything longer than 5 minutes
Yeah, that's why I wanted to tell people about it! I personally don't mind it but clearly this is a big deal for many!
Are your arms noodles?
I do have a important question. I have a nickle allergy, does brass have nickle?
Some specific brass alloys do have Nickel but most of them are mainly copper and zinc.
Fantastic video.
is brass less durable than steel ?

@@ImogenValkyrie No it's not. It's not even close. Brass doesn't hold a candle to the strength of steel. Any steel.
It's as if the UA-cam algorithm somehow got a look at my amazon cart and recommended me this video 😅
Who knows :P maybe it did haha
