Yes! Prices are getting absolutely ridiculous on some things! Also Target clothing prices need to check themselves...
Emily you are so right. And don't even get me started on the prices of their maternity clothes...
Emily Walsh especially their jeans, any brand too. They don't last with my inner thigh friction. Get old navy on a great sale and they last forever!
Emily Walsh I know! I stopped buying clothes there because I can get a much better deal a kohls. I get coupons and kohls bucks and those combined with their sales I end up spending less there than what I would at target.
omgg girl i was at target the other day and i walked by so many cute clothes and i checked the price and i was like why.............
I do have to appreciate you truly PUTTING ON BLUSH! Most 'gurus' now pack on layers and layers of bronzer, then touch their blush brush to their face once and say "OMG THIS IS THE BLUSH IM WEARING TODAY AND ITS SO BEAUTIFUL IM OBSESSED ITS EVERYTHING!!!" like.... i don't even see blush.... ugh. Thanks for actually being realistic and not layering 3-4 layers of bronzer.
when I noticed L'Oreal products were the same price as mac's I was frustrated.
Emilie Violett my L'Oréal foundation is up to 30 dollars a bottle!! Looks like I finally have the excuse I need to try high end foundations.
Remember when Physicians Formula was the expensive drugstore product? Compared to no7, it's cheaper now. Compared to Revlon, it's about the same.
Arcy Young yes, at least PF has natural ingredients and some of their line are organic products.
Arcy Young I know!! I was at walmart today and was all like "well pf is out my price range for right now..." (goes to loreal, maybelline and comes back to PF "I guess PF is actually IN my price range!" Ridiculous!! Half of those products are not worth it!!
Man I remember I love PF its quite pricey but nice! I prefer wetNwild and e.l.f to hard candy and milani
Arghh!! Drugstore makeup is so ridiculously expensive nowadays! I can barely call brands like Maybeline, Loreal etc.. affordable anymore! Wet'n'wild and ELF are my true affordable brands!! Haha!
MakeupMornings i think maybelline can be affordable depending where you buy it from. it is about 6 dollars in my area. loreal and revlon are always overpriced 😥
girl i'm moving to wherever you're living! Haha! I do love maybelline stuff, but i struggle to find anything nowadays that is under $10 from their lines!!
MakeupMornings CVS & Ulta have BOGO 1/2 off frequently. Sometimes CVS has a $3-4 off $15 of Maybelline (or general cosmetics) and you can combine it with manufacturer coupons you can find in the Sunday paper or coupons.com. Ulta almost always has a $3.50 off $15 coupon and you can use manufacturer coupons. That's the best way to go. L'Oréal owns Maybelline, so they're often on sale at the same time at Ulta. xoxo.
M. M. - I stalk Cubus for deals. They occasionally have ones where the prices are reduced enough.
LOVED the idea behind this video, because quite frankly I avoid buying the more expensive products at the drugstore because I fear they are just not worth it! Suggestion for a similar kind of video: how about what's the best inexpensive makeup at sephora kind of thing?
Julie same here. Also because I have wasted more money n drug store products that don't work I am very reticent in purchasing them and we be up spending more time trying to figure out which ones to get. I used to be so simply! Go in get what you want to home! Bam! Done! Now there are like 20 brands or more with about 50 different foundations alone! I am so overwhelmed by it. Now I get things on sale under 10$ because if it doesn't work I am not angry just disappointed! lol
Moriganna Brown that happens to me i use to spend more $$$ on drug store make up on products i end up not liking now i look for makeup products on clearance mostly foundation the other thing i do is save what ever money i was going to spend on makeup even if it takes me two months or so and spend it at Sephora or ulta which i get more for my money
I second the notion to have "the best inexpensive makeup at Sephora" idea! I feel like the minute I walk into the store, I'm not walking out with anything unless I spend a minimum of about $20.
Please consider a part 2 or starting a series. Love the idea and video!
Thank you!! I hoped it would be helpful. It's really sad how many times I could repeat this concept with different high-priced drugstore makeup. I'll definitely keep it up if that's what my viewers want!
emilynoel83 yes Emily please do a series with this concept!!!! I love this video so much!!
If they are going to raise the prices, then at least give us samples. I mean if the price is only a little less than something from a major brand, then I'd rather pay a little extra to be sure that I'm properly color matched.
GoodandDelicious years ago i found a section in target that had tiny try-it sizes of stuff, and I've gotten color match cards in Walmarts beauty box. otherwise I only see them from higher end brands as samples to tack onto orders. I would pay for a color matching sample card from a drugstore foundation I want to try!! going to have to start emailing brands I guess. not going to go at it willy nilly at 12 bucks or more a pop...
GoodandDelicious if you buy it from Rite Aid, save the receipt and keep that scanning code intact, you can return it for a refund if you don't like it.
GoodandDelicious Just save the receipt and packaging. CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Target all accept returns of opened makeup. I've not tried to return drugstore makeup anyplace else (well, Ulta) because there isn't anyplace else around here to buy. If you are asked what's wrong with it say it didn't work for you. If the cashier doing the return gives you static ask to talk to a manager. If you're not sure if you can return opened makeup look at the return policy on the receipt and/or check their website. If you can't find that info try to make the return anyway.
ladyflimflam I found the worst place around me that gives me attitude w returns is Kmart. It's not hard Kmart. All u need to do is damage it out. They act like it's their money. I never had issues anywhere else. I have a return to Rite Aid. lol. I bought the worst blush ever.
I appreciate you so much!! You don't cut corners and make a video for the sake of making a video. You care about making quality content and informative videos. You're a great example to all of us!! 💓
Jessi Reynolds, exactly, Emily's videos are so good because she doesn't cut corners. Until I found her, I had no idea that there was a content of such a high quality on UA-cam and wasted my time on pretentious beauty gurus fair share of which are not really committed to UA-cam and ramble through their generic videos giving little to none useful information. I like Emily because she's not only dedicated and down to earth but also obviously very intelligent.
Thank you so much for making this. WAYYY too many youtubers assume it's affordable because it's drugstore. The prices really have gone up since I started wearing makeup. Some things are priced pretty close up to the lower priced high end items.
Cushion compacts are the biggest scam. They cost more for less, and I have not seen any one of them that actually has a real benefit over a CC or foundation. Someone is just laughing all the way to the bank.
Plain E- Yes! And that cushion is a perfect place for bacteria to breed.
The cosmetic companies and drugstores are raising prices because they know there are so many cosmetic collectors/ hoarders, who will buy it anyway, because of all the youtube beauty haul and review videos. These videos are a goldmine of consumer information. and opinions for them. They recognize makeup addiction and are certainly exploiting and taking advantage of it, hence; so many new drugstore products and the rising prices. I do not do videos, so I have no legit excuse to have as much makeup as I do now, LOL so I am making myself shop my own collection more.
rhon715 You hit the nail on the head. More people need to read your comment because you're absolutely right and it involves the fact that so few of us are informed consumers. Companies know sending free products to the majority of 'gurus' will result in viewers rushing out to buy those products. They create a huge demand which means they can increase their prices.
Yes!! I have too many lipsticks and I barely use any of them. I usually use two or three. I don't know why I have a need to keep buying them. It's an addiction. But I've been doing it for the last five years. Then I end up giving them away. Man, I make me self sick :( but it's almost like this OCD thing where I see a pretty lipstick and I can't feel ok till I get it. It just bugs me that I don't have it. Wow, I wonder if they have shrinks for makeup addicts.
rhon715 that's why Emily needs to keep making these videos! This needs to catch on!!
Shopaholics anonymous maybe? I am the same, in fact, I just bought a couple of new ones, just because one of my fav gurus has them.... okay, for the next four months, I am going to avoid buying any new makeup. Period. Who's with me? Let's challenge ourselves to shop our own stash! should we include subscriptions in the challenge- put them on hold for a while?
I literally died from laughter from the southern accent bit 😂😂 reminded me of the what in tarnation picture going around
lol!! i love that. and no offense to southerners... it's just my go-to crotchety person voice :D
I just boycott the high priced drugstore. the quality doesn't seem to change might as well pay ten more dollars and get something better quality at sephora
Leticia Ponce i know what you are saying but just because it's in sephora doesn't make it better than drugstore.. high end products are pricey mostly because of packaging. so sometimes the drug store is still relatively cheaper and the better choice. i always look for cheap but good qualaty.
Yes I totally agree as a college student I hesitate to pay $16 for a drugstore foundation. I also don't get how YTbers say "OH ITS DRUGSTORE ITS PRETTY AFFORDABLE" Thank you so much for this video.
i'm just glad that essence and wet n wild are stepping up their game and sticking to reasonable prices. elf is still great but their prices are quickly going up :(
the prices goes high up because makeup is more hyped, I think in past makeup really wasn't that important. women were using ANY foundation with ANY powder and ANY mascara to feel satisfied :P
Theyve also improved a lot over the years. Drugstore makeup used to be terrible and now theres some really fantastic gems that rival even the higher end brands.
The only brand that has not changed prices is Wet N Wild. They stay true. Even E.L.F has raised their prices. They no longer have $1 stuff anymore
I think L'oreal is the most expensive overall. I never buy L'oreal products because i think its too expensive for drugstore
Why bother when you have Essence, Catrice, Maybelline, Wet n Wild, Makeup Revolution and Rimmel at more affordable prices?
Quixotic SAMEEE!! all the brands you named are my favourites and most bought
And plus stuff like that in Ulta for example, you always have a some sort of coupon/coupon code and you're already raking up points for the next purchases.
I just bought a Makeup Revolution bronzer (Ultra Bronze) at Ulta that I hate to admit it, but I like it as much if not more than my Marc Jacobs and Guerlain bronzers. It was $7!
Quixotic I reach for an Essence mascara more than a Tarte one! tarte mascara made me have a spridery look 😳😳😳
Wet n' Wild and e.l.f. are really saving the day. Cruelty-free is so important to me and I love the prices. Most of the popular drugstore brands are not cruelty-free which is a major turn- off.
I don't feel it's right that all these big name drugstore brands are jacking their prices up SO much yet taking Beauty gurus on expensive excessive brand trips
emily young I agree, and I wonder if that form of marketing really works? I mean, it doesn't put the brand in a favourable light in my eyes, do any customers watch that and think "oh, now I want to go out and buy from this brand because look how one person go to go on a trip" haha.
Benefits most recent one, i won't be buying benefit anything for at least a year, and I was looking into some of their products too. I did the same thing with tarte.
If drugstore makeup prices keep going up then I'm going to just keep splashing out a bit more and get high end.
Even on sale, some of them are still too pricey! (Hint: Maybelline, L'Oreal, and Covergirl!)
i remember when BOGO half off deals really got me excited! Not quite as much, now!
emilynoel83 I agree Emily. they also only have coupon for brand nee products for like 2 weeks.
I was just about to write about the BOGO offers esp on Ulta and I read Emily's comment!! That does help out a bit though 😊
When I was in college, drugstores would do buy one get one FREE! Those were the days.
MARY RODRIGUEZ exactly! Not this buy one get one 25% off stuff that hardly saves us any money!
Also, random, but I was watching someone recently who mentioned your "singles cruise." So, Em, it's spring time and therefore CRUISE TIME. Please!!!
Megan Thomas it was SO great! I think colorful look tutorials have been few and far between on my subscription list..perfect for spring and summer coming up..just saying!!
Hi Emily! I was watching another video and I jumped to yours as soon as I got the notification. You are my FAVE person to watch. Hope you have a great day, you've just sweetened mine.😘😘😘
emilynoel83 I really wanted to try the new Physicians Formula new matte contour palette and the concealer. I sat back and waited and CVS has PF 40% off this week. I am not a fan of buy 1 get 1 1/2 price. The brush in the palette could've been useful if they made it denser and shorter bristles. The bristles are so flimsy. ugh. But still worth the wait for 40% off.
Thank you for addressing this topic. I think some UA-camrs, because they receive PR, dont take the price in consideration as much because they are receiving products from the company. I question if they would feel differently if they purchased the product themselves and is there an unsaid obligation to give a better review since the company sent the product. I feel your reviews are always honest but I do question some of these UA-camrs that are showing preferences to certain brands that they receive a lot of PR, trips, and gifts from. Are those review truly genuine????
I used to watch Amy but she does the same makeup every time. She is a pretty girl but I wish she would back off the tanning and wear a shirt with sleeves.
Mimi I agree with you completely. I don't trust most of them it just sounds fake. But I am curious what's wrong with no sleeves? I live in florida and more than 11 months out of the year I'm in a tank top. It's too hot not to. Not meaning any offense I'm really just curious, I've never heard anyone say that before.
maybe for some, having to buy the product will change the way they react to it. however Emily get PR too! but you can tell she's honest about what she likes and give a reason why. instead of "Oh my Gosh I'm OBSESSED, YEAAAAAS" 😂 dont get me wrong, I watch other youtubers videos. but its people like Emily that gets me to spend my money
Emily, could you do a video of the best affordable full makeup look you could do at the drugstore? like the most affordable with the best quality? the ultimate affordable face?
xxdiscoxxheaven1 brands like elf, catrice, wet n wild and essence are cheapest and best!!!
I really hope..wet n wild doesn't fall into this category..even though..everytime their highlighters get more pricey... (supply and demand)...first ones... (that hit it big time) were 3.99 ...gold bar came out at 4.99 and now..the purple and pink one they took out about a month ago...5.99...scared they are going to go up...to eventually the other drugstore brands. ughhh...the struggle..
Elf is also climbing up there slowly but surely. Each new brush they release is double the price that their first brushes were.
Dee Ca. Omg...sooo True! Their new ones...I only own 1...cant bring myself to buy them at that price..being Elf... Although I am not a big Elf fan...so if they can make better quality makeup for a bit more...I am not all that against..but like you said..double..Idk...too much of an increase all of the sudden.
I just love you to bits, Emily. Your content is so original (GREAT idea for this one), and every video high-quality. I find it mind-blowing that your production value has remained consistent with two wee ones to care for. You'd be more than forgiven for compromising a bit with your channel, but you never do. Thank you from a truly appreciative subby! Hugs!
P.S. Anytime I'm scrolling somewhere through viewers' comments about beauty YT'ers, the thoughts about emilynoel83 are always the same: You're trustworthy, creative, and lots of fun to watch (plus lovely!). That's no small accomplishment in the critical online world (i.e., the tech version of a high school cafeteria, *shudder*). Oh, and in case you aren't aware - see: the above-referenced babies keeping you so busy - you're mentioned and recommended a lot, too, by your audience, as well as your fellow gurus. Your integrity does not go unnoticed; Lord knows how rare it is these days, especially in this medium. Sad to say, if you didn't insist on maintaining your ethical standards and allowed yourself to sell out, you'd have the millions more subscribers that you deserve.
Seriously maybelline!? $16 for *HALF* an oz of foundation !? Many people think they're saving money but most foundations come with a full oz of product! So you're essentially paying a high end price for a drugstore product
I wear a lot of wet n wild products cause they're cheap and really work wet n wild is my most favorite drugstore brand
Sun Moon & Stars I'm totally obsessed with the new foundation! $5.99? SHUT UP!
And that Maybelline foundation is only half an ounce. I don't see the appeal of those cushion products.
Cindy Schulte i agree. i feel thay you cant really measure how much is actually in there
Cindy Schulte I like the concept, but you can make your own. You can get an empty compact, a multi pack of the cushions, and a multi pack of the applicators (if you use them) for about the same price of a cushion foundation and you can fill it with your own foundation..and you get multiple refills.
Cindy Schulte ---glad you mentioned this because I was wondering about how much product was actually in that cushion foundation....
I'm slightly disappointed with certain drugstore brands lately.
Best to you 😊
Cindy Schulte I loved the cushion but it emptied way too quickly for the price. I got the Wet n Wild photo focus foundation instead and I'm in LOVE.
here in nyc Walgreens it's ridiculously expensive for make-up
Mazi Paz Yes!!! I'm in Brooklyn. 2 or 3 products and you're on $30....its ridiculous!!
LipstickOCD omgosh..... it feels like they are trying to be Sephora but they aren't smh
IvyroseGullwhacker lol .... I will say though rite aid has the best sales and prices if u get their club card.
Mazi Paz but i love that walgreens in times square they have brands that they are "high end" brands here in connecticut. i cant wait to go back in the summer just to go to walgreens there lol
My husband and I were just talking about this. I have pretty good skin so I don't need a lot of coverage ago, so I was going to buy the loreal cushion foundation...I ended up putting it back! My husband asked how much it was and it was 16 bucks for just the half ounce! He said why don't you go to ulta and just buy the bare minerals complexion rescue that you were telling me about. I know they're not the same but my point is I can pay les than $30 for something that has more than twice the amount of product, more shades for me to pick from, better skin care ingredients, and something that I know will look good on my skin(I've tried and few samples). They're getting crazy at the drugstore!
Sarah Loves That says a lot that your husband suggested you go to Sephora ! Lol
Hahaha he knows all about the makeup stores! He's a trooper....but he knew he what he was getting into when we started dating 10 years ago! Once a makeup junkie always a makeup junkie 😉.
Nothing to do with this video, but I get so emotional knowing how long I've supported and watched you since 2008. Nothing has changed and your videos still have the BEST content out there in the beauty community even with two little ones and the pressure of being like so many popular beauty vloggers!!! You deserve millions of subbies 😩😭 much love xo
Also, I find you pay lower prices at Walmart or Target than you do at Walgreens or CVS.
Erin Buller CVS has THE worst prices on makeup....typically 10% more even than Walgreens. And they don't have as good sales as Rite aid & Walgreens.
Hey Emily + Viewers! I'm not sure if you will see this Emily, but for anyone who does, I have a little "tip". If you really want a cushion foundation for the convenience or any other reason, you can buy an empty cushion compact off of Ebay, or even amazon (i'm guessing) and put any liquid foundation you like into it. This would be good for anyone who has to mix shades as well! Hope this is useful for someone!
aw, Em.... you're totally awesome! thanks for all the time you spend on doing videos!! and yes, the prices seem crazy lately.
Best reviewer on UA-cam. Period. 💕
I'd love to see a half under 10$ and half over 10$ drugstore makeup video that way we'd have something to compare the product to.
Emily videos like this keep reminding me why I subscribed (many many moons ago) and why I keep coming to you for the most honest reviews. this one, also, was excellent. I was in CVS last week and overheard two women talking about exactly what I was thinking at the time... how ridiculously expensive drugstore has become lately. needless to say that all 3 of us engaged in that conversation for a while! but yes, it has gotten to the point where you think... well, since this costs this much now, would it not benefit me if I just put in a couple dollars extra and get me some high end makeup instead! ya know.. lol.
but thanks Emily for all that u do, especially now when you have to find the time to be divided fairly amongst two precious babies, a husband, and countless other chores around the house. truly appreciate it, and love you so much!
You are on point with this. Also, the skincare section is getting out of hand too. I am seeing face creams and serums at $35.
Wonderful video, Emily. Thanks so much. Would you consider a part II since there are so many items that fall into this category?
Love this video. I wish drugstore prices weren't getting more expensive. I love saving money, but sometimes if the price difference between a drugstore item and something I can get from Sephora isn't that different I might choose the Sephora item. I really want to try that physicians formula concealer--and the price is the only thing holding me back!
this is a great concept! lovely video.
Could you do a "universal products" video?? Like not necessarily holy grail products or your favorite in each category, but products in each category that will go with ANY look. Sometimes I feel like I have an awesome eye look but don't know what blush and lip to pair with it. So if I had those "universal" blush and lip that would go with ANYTHING I would have a fool proof look! Just a thought. Love love love your videos. 😊
Me and my little girls want to say hi and wish you and your little girls an amazing week!!! I love watching your videos and find you so relatable and down to earth.
you are so kind!! Hellos & hugs to your little ones and thanks for taking time to watch!
Although I still very well may be out of touch as I definitely feel a lot older than many watching, it is reassuring that it is not just me who too has noticed that "drugstore" products have increased far beyond most of our cost of living wage adjustments, etc. To top it off, the quality isn't always there, not even for "drugstore" and although I do prefer to wear cosmetics made in the U.S. or Canada, or Italy (essentially places that adhere to similar manufacturing standards/oversight that we have through the FDA) I have come to appreciate e.l.f., Wet 'n Wild (although I'm still snatching up any remaining tubes of the Max Volume Plus in Amp'd Black C150A that are made in the U.S. that I see because I love the stuff so much), and NYX (gotta love the Micro Brow!), and here's one that surprised me-some of the L.A. Colors lip products have become my favorites! I love the Diamond Shine gloss in Pink Diamonds and their Vit E & Aloe Lipstick in Sorbet (cheapest packaging ever but great formula) and no kidding, cost under $2 each. I'm sure they can be found for even less but I live in SoCal where sometimes prices are a bit higher. The other "drugstore" item I cannot live without anymore and this brand is from Korea, are the Epielle Cleansing Towels. They come in a few different varieties that I will eventually get around to trying but at less than a $1 for 30 wipes and they work great, I'm now sticking to them exclusively. They are the first cleansing wipe that doesn't make my skin burn (I only use when I have a lot of make up on/dark eye look) before showering. I even found a face wash by them I love it too! And it's so freakin' cheap lol. Anyway, I really enjoyed this video if you can't tell by my mile long comment and I'm really excited to hear your take on this issue. For as much as up to $25 price difference, I would buy a "prestige" branded product over a $15 "drugstore" item that just does not deliver. I suppose it quality over quantity and striking that balance between what is truly a better product (regardless of brand) versus what you can get away with for a fraction of the cost. There is a difference between a Too Faced eye shadow palette over even a BH Cosmetics palette (not exactly drugstore but still cheaper) and I happily wear both but I do reach for the higher end shadows (Urban Decay incl) over some of the cheaper stuff. Only exception is probably ColourPop-absolutely incredible line made in the U.S. and very reasonably priced but mail order only. Anyway, my goodness, enough about me ;-) Once again, great video, thanks =^..^=
I just love how creative and original all your videos are Emily! I really appreciate all the effort and preparation that you put into all of your videos. Keep up the AMAZING work! xx
I adore this video! Could you do stuff like this once in awhile? Like make it a semi regular rotation? Thanks!
Hi Emily! thank you so much for all of your honest review :) I have been watching you since 2008 og whenever I watch your videos I feel like I'm hanging out with an old friend! I love how relatable and honest you are. It would mean a lot to me if you reply to my comment :) Lots of hugs from a Danish girl living in Mexico!!
WOW. You were with me back in the old apartment days! Can't thank you enjoy for sticking with me for so long! Thanks for all of your time & support over the years! HUGS to you!
I thought this was a great idea for a video. I have definately stood in the drugstore isle and thought, "I could get something like this at Sephora for only (small amount) more." I wonder if these brands are getting close to pricing themselves out of the game.
how do you not have a million subs yet?! Ive watched you since the beginning and I just adore you!
there's now coupons($2-3) for drugstore makeup coming in with my mail. im now only shopping when i have a coupon. its getting expensive.
i was just thinking that you couldnt do a full face of drugstore makeup for under $10 anymore. barely can so it for 25 if you ask me. sucks for people who cant afford all this expensive nonsense!
Let me mention that in Australia a L'Oréal foundation can be $35. Revlon lipsticks are $22. There's a shitty L'Oréal product for $25. My maybelline eyeliner is $15 and I just got a different one from maybelline that is $17 and these are considered 'cheap'.
Layla Mae Australia has a much higher average minimum wage then the US does though, so it make sense that things would be more expensive.
Kaitlin Rozell yeah sure but other stuff is like the same prices so...?
Thank you so much for continually looking out for those on a budget! Especially mamas like me. Your channel is so underrated! I💜You!!!
Love your reviews! I've been thinking about the NYX contour palette. I just don't know that I need so much of that because I have several highlighters I love anyway. I'm not really into matte highlighters. I already have a bronzer. So do I really need the whole thing for a contour shade? Probably not. Now if I had nothing or was a makeup artist, then this palette would be great! And I do love that you acknowledge not everything from the drugstore is really affordable. Lord knows with a family of 5 on one income I don't have money to waste on mediocre products that are "affordable" Heck when I was a teen and in my early 20's I didn't know anything about high end makeup. Almay, L'Oréal, and Revlon were high end to me.😂 Mary Kay was like gold.😂
Stacie Cranford I'm pleasantly surprised with the Makeup Revolution contour pallete. they have 3 options (fair, light medium and deep) the fair one has a shimmery white highlight and 2 skin tone shades. one shade could be a skin color or a light Bronzer and then the cool toned contour shades. pigmented but blendable. and wanna say it was less than $15
Emily thank you so much for doing this video! I have noticed that a lot of drugstore makeup is expensive. I did just buy two lip liners, micellar water and a highlighter I swear it was like 30 bucks. Insane!
Courtney Szyszkiewicz I would suggest the NYX matte suede lip liners, they're like 3.99 at ulta and they're so pigmented and soft, but still have that nice matte 'stick' on the lips so they don't smear under other lip colors or come off that much when you eat.
I'm sorry - how come this Woman doesn't have one million subscribers already??!!
That maybelline cushion foundation is seriously over priced IMO
Emily, Thank you for doing this video ..I agree 100% , drug store is becoming very expensive...lately I have been saving a little more money and getting a higher brand product, because sometimes is only 5 dollars more in some cases.. Thanks again love the video :)
This was a very informative tutorial, thank you. However, the answer to the question as to why the prices of cosmetics are on the rise, for drugstore brands, are very simply because of the amount of make up tutorials there are on UA-cam. Because the demand is being stated so commercially on UA-cam, the cosmetic companies are just following the demand. I really enjoy your channel.
Needed this video! 💜 thanks for being so original!
You should make this a series or a seperate video about whether or not the overpriced drugstore products are worth it. I'd love to hear your opinion
For me I would pay 20 dollars more for a foundation an be able to color match, get more product, and get better ingredients that don't break me out and I don't need as much of
Emilynoel83 American prices are about half the price of what Australians pay here. Most drugstore foundations are $20, l'oréal and Revlon is close to $30-40.
katyrosiely same here in South Africa! Revlon foundation is about $30 here!
Elf eyebrow pencil in taupe is awesome for $2! It's all I use and it has a spoolie!
For a brow pencil it's amazing! I'm a luxury makeup addict but that pencil is so worth it!
Jordan Osterhout That's my favorite brow pencil. I think I've purchased five of them.
Has anyone else seen the new drug store brand Kokie ? I need a review!! it's at Walmart!
Kelsey Stewart I saw the Kokie stuff at Walmart last weekend and literally told my husband that I wasn't going to waste my $ until I see some reviews online. I haven't heard a word about them yet.
I haven't tried anything but the hydrating setting scary. It smells gross though. Wouldn't really recommend it because of the smell.
It's outrageous that the cushion foundation is so expensive when they typically have a fraction of the quantity of what a regular liquid foundation would have. Unfortunately, I think the price of drugstore makeup has become so expensive, because of beauty vloggers. Nyx' Tres Jolie eyeliner is about 11.99 while their other eyeliners are 3.99, why? Could it be because a vlogger with over 3 million followers says that it's her favorite?
Mary Ford I can only give that 1 thumb up. but yes, totally agree. I have yet to buy that. lol
nyx angel veil is so overpriced! I love the product but the price is just way too high for a 30ml tube
A little black fluff fell on my screen and I almost peed myself because I thought it was a spider. Then I wasn't sure if it was a spider on your camera or my screen. Needless to say, I was relieved to find it was just a tuft of dog fur
Good morning guys 😊 Can anyone recommend a (preferably affordable) moisturizer with spf 30+? I have oily, acne prone skin.
Sabrina Salinas Soap and Glory has an SPF moisturiser (I still use another moisturiser over top) It is SPF 50 and pretty affordable. I'm in the UK so not sure how much it is elsewhere :)
Sabrina Salinas Neutrogena makes a hydro boost moisturizer that I personally like quite a bit for my oily skin, but it doesn't have an SPF. But if you were to pick up this and an SPF (also from Neutrogena) it would still be under $30!
Sabrina Salinas Neutrogena has one (I think it's called Soft Touch?) that is kind of like a thin serum consistency. It dries soft and matte and it's super thin. They offer lots of different SPF options up to SPF 100. Highly recommend from someone who is also acne prone and oily!
Edit: btw it's great under makeup!
Hey :)
I dont consider this affordable (middle price range maybe) but its the only spf lotion that does coorporate with my oily skin.
Its the vitamin E moisturizing lotion with spf 30 from the body shop.
Its light, non greasy and sinks into the skin quickly, I love it. Here in Germany its 18 Euros for 30 ml. Sadly, I dont know the price in the US
Lindsey Bailes - I have the Neutrogena oil free spf 35 and it still feels oily and like ordinary sunscreen
How did I not find your channel SOONER?!?!?!?! No joke you were mentioned in a video by Jenluvsreview, where she asked people to name their top go to beauty gurus and you were named in the top 10 and lots of commenters were saying how awesome you are and I typed your name in the search box and down the rabbit hole I went. I absolutely love your content and the fact that you come across honest and REAL and you understand that not everyone can head to Sephora and drop $100+ for a few high end items. I'm an indie polish lover and when it comes to certain brands I don't mind spending $12 on a polish because I know I'm getting a high quality product that's missing the not so good for chemicals found in store brands. I've been binge watching your videos and I subbed after the first one, keep up the awesomeness!!!
I totally agree, some stuff at the drugstore is getting out of hand. $15.99 for foundation and $10.99 for mascara?!? No way! I'm also irritated with all the gimmicky stuff. Just put out a good quality product that works.
How do you not have 1M subscribers yet?? I've been watching you for years and you're one of the most genuine and hard working beauty youtubers out there
I think your makeup looks exceptional in this video! Your eyebrows, super brightened under eye area, the bright cheek bone highlight and the contour, so pretty!
I been using the same loreal foundation for years. Recently the price went from $12 to 17! I am kind of over this insanity myself! Thank you for taking about it.
Girl, YES!! THANK YOU for addressing this!! Emily, it's like you can read my mind--I suspect other UA-camrs will follow your trend because it's such a necessary topic to cover!
I've been holding out on buying NYX's Angel Veil primer because it's $16 -- or Soap & Glory or No 7 because they're in the $20 range. If I wanted to pay that much for a primer I'd go to Sephora and spend a little more for a high end brand! But you're right, if the quality is there you can almost justify paying those prices at the drugstore.
Most of us are on a budget, and thankfully there are brands like Wet N Wild and ELF that can help a sister out and wonderful beauty bloggers like you that can help us decide which things are worth our money. Luckily most stores have a decent return policy on makeup, at least in my experience.
Thank you again for bringing this up because some drugstore brands are getting crazy with their prices which could ultimately cost them customers.
Thank you for acknowledging the fact that drugstore prices keep creeping up. This is the first video I've seen where that's pointed out, and it's so important! I feel some UA-camrs forget regular people have to purchase this themselves, so they need to review more critically! Thank you!!!
Im so glad we can always rely on Emily for original content! Such a great idea for a video.
Emily you explain things so well and in such a logical manner so I wish you would do a video series on "Makeup 101". For instance, what kind of foundation should you use? How do you know if your skin tone is yellow, neutral or pink undertones. What brands have foundations for each, or all skin tones. How should I apply my various types of makeup (fingers, brush, sponge) and why. Sometimes the "why" of all of this is as important as the "what's". What is a transition shade? Why do I apply it? Matte shadow? Why? And on and on....When I first started applying makeup I wish someone would have broken it down for me that way and really explained both "what" and "why". I made so many makeup errors by just fumbling around on my own. I respect your videos so much and you are the only UA-camr I would want to teach me.
Just one woman's thoughts...... Thanks for all you do!
I've been a long time subscriber on your channel since 2009 and haven't watched your videos in a quite some time. I just got back to watching them and I gotta say Emily, you're ALWAYS so consistent with your reviews and so honest with every product you review!! I also love how transparent you are in about your description links. Fun fact: we share the exact same birthday, 10 years apart! ❤ -Courtney
You are wonderful Emily. You're so classy and always sweet. It's clear that you have respect for your audience because you're always honest and don't make empty promises and commitments to us. I don't know how you do it all! Filming, editing, taking care of those adorable kiddos and being a wife. On top of that, I have not once heard you complain about your responsibilities or make excuses to us. Viewers know who is authentic and who isn't. Thank you.
This is why I trust you so much! You are always totally honest and you keep in mind people at different price points. I always put your reviews above everyone else's because I know you will give it to us straight. Thanks for all the work you put into this!!
One of the few youtubers who I trust to give honest recommendations and reviews. Thanks Emily.
First of all, you look stunning. Second, I feel so lucky to have found you so many years ago because not only are you an amazing beauty expert but also because I have your exact eye shape, eyebrows and lip shape. It's so helpful to watch someone apply makeup who has similar features. You really made me think about it when you were doing your eyeliner and connecting it with eye shadow to your lower lash line . That is so genius because I have the same issue with my wing looking odd because my eyes are more round shaped. Anyway, just wanted to tell you how appreciated you are!! You were the first person I ever subscribed to and still my favorite. ☺
Thanks for this video! "It's from the drugstore" is a mentality that in recent years can cost consumers a lot. I finally realized that a lot of the drugstore makeup I purchased sat unused in my makeup bag, so I tried to curb that spending. Now, if I really want something, I often buy high-end/ research it. I found I was much happier buying the Modern Renaissance palette with a coupon then buying several eyeshadows from the drugstore. (It does add up!) $45 dollars later, and I could have just bought the product I originally wanted.
But the biggest help is returns. Drugstores will take back makeup items, even used.
LOVE THIS!!! Thank you, Emily for keeping those of us that are purchasing these products in mind. So many UA-cam beauty "gurus" forget that we actually pay for these products & aren't sent boxes & boxes of PR. Your integrity just took my respect for you to a whole new level! Keep up the great work! XOXO
Great video Emily! Canadian prices are also up there! Sometimes $4 difference between drugstore ($22) and Walmart ($16) foundation prices and good luck finding your color - and we cannot exchange them. Instead I wait until I can purchase the high end brands of products that are worth it for me. Drugstore brushes are also hit or miss at a not so affordable price.
I so love and appreciate your original content instead of posting the same type of videos that every other UA-camr posts!!! Great video, love you Em!! 💕
Thank you so much for doing this type of video! And thank you for admitting that free PR versus spending ones' own hard earned cash is a VERY different story, it just is, and it takes a critical eye to be able to look at a PR product and think about what standard that product should live up too. Please do this as a series on your channel. 😊😊😊
Love this concept. You should turn it into a series. Also can you do one on skincare too?
I hate that the loreal cushion foundation is so expensive, because I love it. Thank goodness for coupons.
Thank you for addressing this! It always "grinds my gears" when I want an affordable foundation or something and I get recommended one that's like $18.
Hi Emily, I'm always amazed that people are surprised that drugstore makeup is going up in price. Ten years ago I would never have even considered buying makeup at the drugstore, thinking that it was cheap, sub-par, and an overwhelming number of products to choose from. Enter the internet, with massive reach and audience, and all of the UA-cam creators and viewers. Now we can be guided to the high-quality cosmetics at the drugstore, demonstrated and reviewed at our desks. From there it's just economics--if the products are in demand, the prices will be raised. Personally, I now love having the option to buy awesome drugstore makeup, which in many cases is still 25-50% less than a Sephora/Macys/Nordstrom etc. Thanks for breaking down the worth-it vs not-worth-it items here. Now I'm tempted to by that NYX neutral palette.
I LOVE your complete honesty! So refreshing compared to some other UA-camrs.
You have the absolute best video ideas! Been watching for years and I value your opinion. Thank you so much, Emily!!
Really appreciate this video! So many UA-camrs automatically say "it's from the drugstore so you know it's affordable" without ever even CHECKING the price tag.
YEP. Price points are really changing these days!!
@Carley Hawkins @emilynoel83 Thank you Carley for pointing this out and thank you Emily for doing this video!!!
Carley Hawkins if
Also not many UA-camrs check the price per gram or ounce. I used NYX concealers but if you check the prices per fluid ounce it's almost the same as the MAC pro longwear (at least here in Germany). Similar thing with the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. For eyeshadows I don't care since I'll never use them up anyways but concealers and setting powders I do use up.
Carley Hawkins I just commented the same thing!!!
