They totally were thinking, "Many apartments in some Asian countries just have the cooktop." But they can't use the cooktop, because it's not in the pack.
Yes, I agree! Large appliances are so American. It is totally authentic to just have small appliances in a kitchen. Small appliances are used more creatively than they are in the sims though. In real life, check out youtube to see the amazing things done in a rice cooker, like baking cakes.
@@katofhyrule12I feel like more specifically American Suburbians. Even American apartments sometimes feature smaller appliances. The Sims 4 appliances are annoyingly so restricted in the sizing!
@@lilliethshadows Yeah, it's just gotta be really difficult with the scale they've built the game on and the design of objects and interactions to efficiently use space in the Sims 4. Like, they've programmed themselves into a corner on some things.
I once viewed a cheap apartment in Germany and it didn't have a full stove. For me this was one of the reasons I didn't rent it, but the current renter was fine with a stove top and a toaster oven. So for small and cheap apartments it's not uncommon, but I also agree with Simsie that it's pretty essential for gameplay in the Sims.
I like how Kayla did the EA build restrictions, but then did a little "updated" version afterwards. The EA restrictions can be, well, restricting, so it's nice to see a more polished version but still within the budget.
The reason they have them is because they can get in trouble for false advertising if they can’t run the game on the minimum specs listed in the store. I absolutely agree that it can be frustrating and I tend to remodel every house I move into but they’d get in actual legal trouble if they didn’t. (Some of these things are actually good to know though because my laptop sounds like it’s going to take off when I play the sims.)
Would love to see a simsie tier list of some of the EA builds pre-simmer collab era. Cuz they're all mostly mediocre but some are definitely better than others 😂
@@hedvigdougan I vaguely remembered that as I was writing the comment and considered looking it up but I decided that I would like to see her do it again lmao

Day 1 of letting Kayla know this build challenge I just made up! Imagine a build challenge where you roll two numbers, for example from 10 to 500 (you can use other numbers) and your have to build a house with that exact number of items. Restrictions! 1- Walls, terrain paint and Roof does NOT count as items (I mean, you can count them for extra spiciness on the challenge) 2- On the other hand, windows, doors, stairs, lights, pools, landscape, wallpaper (count one everytime you use a different wallpaper) and flooring (same thing as wallpaper) and starails DO count as an item each! Aside from all the furniture, of course;) Lmk if you do this!
yesss, please renovate more!! :) and btw, the not-loading of the households happens when the sims aren't home in that moment... soo annoying, happens to me all the time
Been the same here in southern Indiana! We've been under a wind advisory since yesterday and now it's supposed to get cold by the end of the week and into early next week.
About the stove I remembered something... when I was younger I used to be soooo annoyed with it always catching on fire, that I decided to delete/not put any XD And have my sims just live off the microwave and quick meals 😅
If they wanted it to be small there is a tiny toaster oven thing rather than a full sized oven. I use it a lot when I am building tiny home apartments or just regular tiny homes with a mini fridge.
Mainly Asian countries don't have an oven! Many kitchens in Asian countries are small , not even much counter space and a small refrigerator freezer. In every house and apartment I've lived in in South Korea I never had an oven. Most hace 2 gas stove tops, and one had 2 electric stove tops. I had a large toaster oven of my own (like, bigger than a microwave) that I used because I love to cook! Oh, and of course everyone has a rice cooker!
hope the storm didn't hit you too bad Kayla! I'm in NC and it was pretty rough.. I can't imagine in FL. (some of my family members live down that way, near Panama city Beach they got hit bad.) stay safe! 🤍
I know why it doesn’t have a stove! This house looks quite SE Asian inspired externally, especially with the loo. I live in Bangkok currently, and whilst a lot of the buildings no longer look like this, and in every condo I’ve lived in they’ve had ‘normal’ toilets - there is no stove! There is a hob, usually, but not an oven. Perhaps this is what they were referencing?
You DON'T need an oven, and sometimes you own an oven to your own Detriment as you have Sims, who aren't in your household, come over and just autonomously bake a White Cake...for no reason, and then leave. All without even having a slice. I stopped putting ovens in my sims builds because of that.
😂 that upstairs apartment. I get invited over there all the time. It's always popping and my sims' son has a huge crush on their kid. Way nicer aparment than the available rentals that come in tomarang.
You accidentally renovated the mouse pretty accurately to the SEA culture. In urban households, the wardrobe usually is in the living room because it needs to be shared, and opening floorplan is also very common. We don't usually have archways because it adds up construction cost. The only inaccurate part is the upper cabinets, they do exist but not common. We usually just use hangers for appliances and have separated storage nooks, so just using one or two SEA-themed clutters would help.
My kitchens in Shanghai apartments (and I lived in a few over the course of several years) didn't have ovens or rice cookers and we had a dirty old microwave. Mind you i was looking for cheapest apartments 😂 One of the apartments had the electric stove and that was such a luxury for me 😂
I have always been terrible at building so back in ts3 I decided I'd just use prebuilt houses but when I got ts4 I was apalled by the Willow Creek houses I started building first because even my houses are better than that
Its also normal for a lot of South Asia country to not cook at home but eat at a night market. Its cheaper then cooking at home. So a stove is not necessarily
I love when you renovate an existing EA build. Your builds are so much better than what the Sims team does. Making the actual game is their specialty, building of the houses and stuff is not. They needed Sim creators from the beginning of the Sims era. They should revive the first three Sims games and change the graphics, maybe I'd like those one's more. lol. Oh, speaking of a home with a missing toilet, that happens in the Thorne Bailey house. They had no toilets but had a bathtub? Hmm. Maybe that's why they always die in my game. lol
Regarding the oven rant - I live in Asia and my apartment has no oven… I bought my own microwave and kettle and the place came with a 2 burner stove, but no oven.
Tbh, I’m starting to grow away from the sims 4, and you’re the only person/thing that’s keeping me from going. Tysm❤️ I didn’t mean this comment in a mean way.ok:)
This was the first building I had to makeover when I got the pack cause it was horrible and don’t fit the neighborhood it was in. Shame on EA! I always use your builds.
Kayak: If I replace a little tiny plan with a couch, those obviously don't have the same effect on performance Also Kayak: Lemme just switch this ceiling light with a 2 squares wide bookshelf 💀
I will never forget about the missing toilet era. The fact it happened MORE THAN ONCE is so hilarious and terrible 😭
Did they ever fix the missing door in glimmerbrook? I pretty much never go there haha.
Yeah. For a game mostly about building, the houses you add are pretty important
