  • Thanks to Driver Ryan for letting me put the camera on the loco.
Take a virtual ride on a return trip from Ravenglass to Dalegarth on board River Esk on the footplate. See the driver at work tending to the fire as well as driving the loco.

It would be good if we knew what the gauges and knobs are for? I'm guessing that the big long silver lever is the throttle? Last time I was there was on a school trop at the end of 1973, Barrow Boys Grammar school. When it got to a steep part and slowed down to running speed, kids were jumping out, running alongside and jumping back on. They got yelled at by the teachers. Hard to imagine these days?

The silver lever is the regular that makes the train more forward. One of the gauges is the pressure. The 2 glass things are the water gauge. One of the things he was twisting at the start was a drain cox (this lets out the steam) the thing was ticking at the start that’s the injector this puts water into the boiler
      Hope this answers your question

The ticking is indeed the air pump creating air in the system

Fascinating. The mask insanity even extends to the Ratty.
