- Tributes have poured in for Dundee United legend Jim McLean, who led the club to a league title, following his death at the age of 83.
The former manager, who lifted the league cup twice and led his side to the final of the UEFA Cup in 1987, was described as “an integral part of our history” by the club.
The “titan of Dundee United folklore” managed them for more than 21 years, as well as being director and chairman during his long association with the club.
Former players, journalists who interviewed him, and other football clubs have paid tribute to the man who took the Tannadice reins in 1971.

RIP one of the last old school football guys. Broke the old firm dominance along with Alex Ferguson which is a feat that should not be forgotten.
Jim McLean was the Cloughie of Scottish football. He was ahead of his time and managed an unfancied club to the title in 1983 and a few League cups. He also proved he could compete in Europe. Also, like Clough, he was just a little bit controversial. That said, you have to admire him as a manager and a football man. Sadly missed.
A great manager, what he did with Utd is legendary.
One of scotlands all time greats

Legends will never die 👊🏼🏟💗

R.I.P Jim Mclean.
A true legend of Scottish Football, Jim's time at Dundee United was a brilliant era for the club.
A great Manager and a genuine character of the beautiful game.
Rest easy up in the big Tannadice in the sky.
He is beyond a club legend, the word legend doesnt even go half the way to describe what he was to Dundee United and the support.
If he's good enough for Cloughie
Then that'll do for me
Had a great career
McLean and Ferguson were the two that put the north of Scotland on the football map.
RIP,Jim McLean from a Claret 😢
I'm insulted by the need for subtitles.
