Hip hop is not this documentary. REAL Hip hop is embracing and representing the elements of Hip hop like B-boys/B-girls, DJs, Graffiti writers, and MCs. This shit is only about rappers that know nothing about Hip hop and the clearly don't represent what REAL Hip hop is all about.

+Beat Digger JR5 But rapping is a big element of Hip Hop, the biggest when it comes to public perception especially, so why can a film not be about rapping but still be Hip Hop? From what I've seen this film does touch on the elements anyway. If a film was about Breakdancing, Graph, and the DJ side of Hip Hop but didn't say much about rapping would it be a Hip Hop documentary then?

boyblu21 Good point. The violence in those mafia movies and tv series like The Soprano's is too much ....so cold hearted and unremorseful
War films are worse 'cos it glamorises and normalises war violence to a mainstream audience worldwide .
Kids playing shooting games with play station and what have you. America's violent and unjust foreign policy; it's barely taken a pause from invading other country's since the 2nd world war. America was made from violence and murder ( to the indigenous population ) America got rich from being violent and murderous to slaves .......then it declares itself the land of the free.

best doc I've seen in ages... Too many Corporate RAPPERS claiming to be HipHop. Lot of the videos in this is Bubblegum pop rap. Totally agree with a lot of the comments here. Anyone can RAP but so many of the modern rappers just don't have any skills and haven't put in the work required to perfect a style and skill. They're manufactured RAP. Too many wannabe clones of the clones of the clones. Sadly never bought a US record in about 20 years... maybe P.E. but can't remember the last US artist I bought...and I have thousands of vinyl most is pre 2005 US and UK rap. US lost it's way with rap. Although I still hear the odd great underground track from US.

lyrics represent the thought process that made them.. if it sounds shallow and primitive that is because it is. if it sound like a mumble it is a mumble..
A song that talks about hoes and bitches is not talking about how wonderfull women are.. sensitive and kind, inteligent and stong, loving and sexy.. it just talks about women as hoes and bitches.. why would any respecable women listen to this and think she is not incuded in the picture is beyond me.. maybe they should also add.. its about all women except the mom of the rapper.. but deep down we all know that it is also about the mom of the rapper, he is the only one who doesnt think so.

Has anyone ever gotten the idea that maybe the 'bitches, etc.' talk comes from the groupie lifestyle which falsifies a rapper's image of women? Seems more realistic to me as a reason why. And it would be nice to have smart people in a documentary. Only people with no class and taste listen to modern Hip-Hop. Everyone else goes digging for himself to find what he likes. That's why I listen to Mos Def. And America is way too obsessed with race. I would feel embarrassed to even talk about the differences between blacks&whites, cause there aren't any you can say categorically. I guess you can't buy class.
