- A house in LaJolla, California, once home to Theodore Giesel, best known as Dr. Seuss, is up for sale. The "Cat in the Hat" author purchased the home in 1947 and spent hours overlooking the Pacific Ocean from his office while dreaming up his beloved characters. Since Dr. Seuss was all about educating young minds, and the proceeds from the sale of his house will go towards education. The University of California San Diego, home to the Geisel Library, will be the beneficiary of this sale.
This should be in a museum! Nobody can respect and live in the house as the Legend of our childhood has.
Hopefully someone with the bread and gumption will make this happen. Otherwise, someone will make it an Airbnb.
He’s not even a good guy! Do your research
He was a pretty awful guy
Yeah it should be a museum, good idea! We cant let this home change!
@@hrs7008 he is racist
It would be to bad if it gets broken up into different sections.
I agree with some of the other comments, it should be made into a museum.
You got the money to run it?
@@i.l6916 nobody does. Do rich people even exist these days?
@@i.l6916 I am sure there is someone who could.
@@HopeKing I wish
The front door is so beautiful and should never be destroyed or taken down!😍
I helped with an event at the neighbors property and I can say it is honestly one of the best views, if not, the best view in all of San Diego and possibly California. You can see the ocean, beaches, and hills, for miles. Such a beautiful location.
I guess this footage doesn’t do it justice then
They should turn it to a museum the house has a lot of history to it.
Skills, talent and imagination. The guy had all of them. Good part of my childhood. It’s great the money is going towards a good cause too.
He was a staunch racist as well.
@@goldbars777 Me too
@@goldbars777 And? As a black person I think that it’s fine. He’s a book author not someone’s who personal opinions matter to anyone, someone can be acknowledged and celebrated for their talents while also not being a good person.
@@fluffyfluid8585 Hence, he was NOT a good person. His career was BUILT on RACIST propaganda SILLY 🐇 ‼️
A good cause? It’s going to a University lol.
For sale for sale it’s by the sea
A room to write for you and me
The price you ask
Sir what’s the bill
You could have it all for 19 mill!
Aww I remember reading his books when I was little and he made reading fun.
@@Saxxin1 how can that be❓If it was not for him then we would not have "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
It’s crazy that the Dr. Seuss house costs over 19,000,000¢ (£161,495.96).
I mean he is a very famous author.
@Daquariuz Jamez too bad that’s he’s been dead for 2 decades..
Not only coz who the guy is but also and mostly about the house itself and its localisation. It is worth millions even without it being from a famous person
Another reason is costs that much is because of the view and location.
Wow that’s almost a $1000.
It would be cool if his house was turned into a museum
oh yeah in the wealthiest neighberhood in the usa , lol. bill gates owns a house there.
@@emailercc3565 not saying they should just saying it would be cool. A man can dream... A man can dream.
nah we want the money - current UCSD student
no it wouldnt be cool

Creative home I would be blessed to own
I have vague memories of my mom reading the books to me, so my favorite memory is when my dad (a maintenance painter at a school before he retired), got to read Dr. Suess to a bunch of elementary school kids for a reading program or some such. He read it to a then teenage me for practice. LOLZ. Good times.
La Jolla in the 1940's must have been heaven.
His museum is in Springfield, Mass. and it is awesome!
It had a stocked refrigerator, but the Grinch cleaned it out as quick as a flash! Why the Grinch even took the last can of Who Hash!
That house, I think, would be a wonderful place to dream.
Until an earthquake shakes it down
This is an American treasure! Make it a museum!!
He came up with the word nerd! Alot of gifts this man has given us!!
Really interesting
🤓
@Ruby Ramirez I don't think that's what he intended for it to be used in a hateful way though.
@Ruby Ramirez that's very true. I was called a nerd myself because I loved to read and wore thick glasses. The sad thing is that I grew up in foster care and that's the only frames that fit my lenses that my government insurance would pay for. At home I was abused pretty bad and each new home seemed to go from bad to worse. School was brutal. Home was possibly worse so reading was my escape. So if I'm a nerd I'm also a survivor so I'll wear that as a badge of honor!!!
I spent many childhood days at those La Jolla beaches. It would be an AMAZING museum, but that location would (and already is) a traffic nightmare.
La Jolla is a magical place to live....
Great for rich 🗑
If I had the money I would buy that house and have Gordan Ramsay cook green eggs and ham and have Ryan Gosling reject it like he does cereal as a tribute.
I will take it!! (Looks at bank account , mmm nevermind)
Legend no wonder he had these great ideas look at the insane view he had
$19M omg 😳 that’s mega mansion money. They’re crazy lol
Just purchased the house. Thanks for the heads up.
lmaooo 😭
@@itsmealanaa it’s a joke dummy 🤦♂️
this should be a museum
Wow.. I always thought his house would look like those in his books.
WHAT WHAT
SHOULDN'T HIS HOUSE GOT TO HIS FAMILY
WHY THE HELL IS THE GOVERNMENT SELLING IT AS IF IT WAS THEIR OWN 😭😭
Fabulous!!
Should become a book museum with all his book in some shape or form
I love dr.seuss I love reading his books
He stayed in San Diego!
WE GOT LOTS OF UNICORNS 🦄
This should be a museum and not up for sale.
This should be in a museum!!! 💋 👑
I love Creative Writing. This would be a dream house.
@ 34 years old and not to many books read in my life this is def a childhood memory
That view is insane, maybe the best I’ve ever seen
What a beautiful home
It’s just so cool how this man has been living in my city for years 😭🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
beautiful house
Gem of a Human! 💖
I hope whoever buys it turns it into a museum
Ok thanks for letting me know.
Very nice
La Jolla is a beautiful city, right in the county of San Diego.
Love the red setter
That looks like a nice home.
It reminds me of Rome.
Crazy! My grandpa used to service his pool when he was young man!
I don't understand where people can get such amount of money...
Get a good education and then get a job
@@flamingarsenal7897 not if you don't have the right connections
I would love his house
That library is neat
Sure let me get my check book.
Dr. Seuss doesn’t have a medical license.
The more you know
yes
Genius - see his sculptures in Laguna Beach
I never actually seen a young version of Dr.Seuss
Tbh I don’t think that enough money for what your getting. I feel like your getting history and the most absolutely beautiful overview and the land! Omg it’s just to breathtaking. Like the other comments it stools be made into a museum. I’m scared someone will buy it and mess everything up for us
I bought this house, now I live with a mouse.
Cool am going to buy it
Wow!
Dr. Seuss characters if they we're public domain
Hollywood producers: 😈😈😈
It’s basically every authors dream to live there
Dr.Seuss man 🔥🔥 Hell yeah
Who in their right mind would pay over a million for any place in cali
That 995k is so extra. Just round it up.
Does anyone remember the book called Green eggs and ham by Dr. Suess?
will admit I have to thank him for making my childhood nice but still can't come to like him anymore after hearing what he did to his wife and how he acted
What he did?
@@Buttabrown You don't know? he was racist and his abuse towards his wife made her commit suicide
@@Buttabrown he is racist to asain and black citizens and he cheated on his wife when she was battling cancer and caused her to suicide
Cheated on her when she was sick, she committed suicide.
@Liz Cheated on her wife when she had cancer. Her wife proceeded to kill herself because of the heartbreak. He was also super racist.
It's got a great view
If you guys don’t want to turn it to the museum you guys need to bring the price way up from 19 million. This is a historically house for our childhoods.
Shout out San Diego
I remember him every year on my brith day we have the same brith day
I would love to live in that house
LongLiveDrSeuss
Green eggs and ham!♥️
Dont be sad because its over
Smile because it happened
-Dr.Seuss
Now that's a house. Imagine owning dr sueses house.
Thought it was $19 for a sec
I was ... Well Obviously wrong
Lmao same 😂
He was about education NOT indoctrination.
All I can think about how he cheated on his dying wife. No thanks
bet i’ll buy it rn
Dr Suess visited my Elementary School in the late 70s. I met him.
This is probably the first time I saw the guy.
There's a story about one of his books at a haunted museum that has blood specks on it from a murder
i read the title as $19
Well, if I win the lottery I'm interested!
he was spitting bars
Plus side, least the money is going to further/help education. So that's not so bad in the end.
It’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
The voice of the outro tho 🤣
Oh that is amazing and that is a lot of money🤔
Four sites just over four acres. You can buy them separate or all four for 18 mill. Hopefully there’s a stipulation in the contract where the buyer can’t destroy the property and turn it into a white box that has no character.
I think I'll bid for it today 🤔
Omg what a dream
What an imaginative beautiful soul he was!❤forever more a part of children's lives
He was racist, but yes, he was imaginative.
@@cnessence How so?
@@johnp.5134 look it up on about any platform, that'll give you all the info you need.
@@cnessence You're the one making the claim so back it. I'll just say I couldn't find anything.

You never know who's worth millions. Imagine his estate's net worth if he can donate that home.
This sent me googling his life.
Is the house close enough to the sea side cliff that it could fall in?
Buy it.
*the schools top administrators will be the beneficiaries of the proceeds from the sale by way of wage increases.
There fixed it for ya.
"He could have purchased anywhere in the world and this is where he chose..."
Bruuh you could have said that for literally any properties he chose, anywhere in the world...
Lmaooo
I think this was his only house. He used the view as inspiration while writing.
I think the point was that he was not constrained in any way and chose there. People often settle for less that their ideal location.
For you nygyen, it's duhhhhh, not bruh!! It's a beautiful property in gorgeous San Diego area. That's what he loved, none yo biz, ignorant 🤣. Just GIT!
LITERALLY!!
