So, so true, Tom has a deeper understanding of musical composition and harmony and the way he compliments gracefully despite having such a massive talent on a par with Wilson, shows he's a gentleman as well as having soul in his veins.
The comparatively minor Motown star Tom unashamedly copied vocally, was Brook Benton. Tom talks about this in some early interviews and also, in the very early and pre-star days, legend Jerry Lee Lewis was Tom's biggest influence.
He was definitely considered a bow-tie wearing square in the mid 1960s thru to 1988, when he morphed and appeared leather-clad and singing his big Prince hit, Kiss. Before ultra-shrewd and ultra-able manager, Gordon Mills, discovered Tom singing in a Welsh pub in 1964, Tom wanted to be a leather-clad out and out blues singer. It was Gordon who persuaded him to sing middle of the road songs as this was where the big money was to be made.

Tom has confessed that this was the music he truly loved. Like Elvis, he sold out and recorded pop trash to get on the charts, but Tom's first love was clearly gospel and R & B soul music. Thanks for posting this gem.
When you don't have anything respectful to write then don't write anything at all, you were not raised right, and today there are artists who collaborate with other singers from different genres that does not mean they sold their soul to the devil, it just means they want to unite the world, and bring people together. I know, I'm weird) and do the Milly Roc dance out of the office, whilst rapping: "I Milly Rock on any Block" LOLOL!
Well said and very true. Pickett and Little Richard did that in their duets with Sir Tom. Black artists don't give that ultimate sign of respect for no reason unless they mean it. With Jones they definitely meant it when they uttered the words, " Sing the song son/ sir".
One thing I love about Tom's duets with other great artists, is that because he is so great and doesn't hold back, he pushes his partners to up their game and give it their best. The result is almost invariably magical.
I know exactly what you mean. He always supports his guests, lets them take the lead, then pushes them to their limits. He puts the music before his ego. Watch how he always watches the artist to follow their lead, and then takes it to the next level when it's his turn. Not all singers can or will do that.
I loved watching The Tom Jones Show. He had so many talented artists on, & the duets were always off the chain. Tom held his own with all of them, thoroughly into the music.
Tom Jones is a powerhouse, he can sing anything with anybody and sound amazing and makes it seem effortless, he truly is a LEGEND. For me Mr Jones has the best voice in the business and is the most incredible singer ever. What a performance
What a pity this show was cancelled! I thought that Sir Tom was the best show host ever the way he blended in with all the celebrity singers! I remember watching him as a teenager with my parents and four siblings! We really loved the show! Brought so much joy into our family living room during the troublesome times during the Vietnam War! Shame the other two networks had to ruin it for Sir Tome Jones.
I've just fixed a 1960's vintage record player and picked up some old LP's to play on it, one of them happened to be a Tom Jones album.....I cant play it enough, the guy is utterly amazing!

Just great to see two men enjoying themselves and sharing their wonderful voices.
Tom Jones is the best at anything he does. Today he is that same classy and handsome man he always was. And that voice. He is it.❤❤
Hi love ❤️
Evergreen Tom Jones and the wicked wicket Willie picket very similar voices that cut different ways
damm...you know, I'm 38 years old, but hearing those beautiful songs, sung by two talented, soulfull singers like them...makes me wonder why the hell can't we have this kind of performance, of passion, of enjoyment in music nowadays? Greetings from Brazil
The so called Music Industry these days don't want ant more talent anymore. Horrible. SMH
I've never heard this performance.. and it sounds as fresh as it did back then...unbelievable
Both have SOUL and RHYTHM in their bones...unequalled ❤❤❤
The pipes on both men are a gift to all of us listening from the Lord above!! God bless TJ & WP...
Tom Jones, nothing to envy from any singer. Great voice it just flows naturally. With any singer, any genre, the best of the best, even to this day!
Wilson Pickett looked he could explode anytime, and TJ rode the outer rim of his explosiveness just perfectly awesome performance by both artist. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Makes you glad to be alive, so you can dance around the kitchen to this awesome medley from two greats. Dinner can wait!!😂
Two of the greatest, both complementing each other, absolutely wonderful!
Thank you for being such an amazing fan of my music, who has never stopped loving and appreciating me.
What a blast getting to sing with so many talented singers!
This is the very definition of absolute cool
WOW❗❗❗Two Singers with
Powerful Voice ❗❗❗I'm very impressed
Very impressed red exclamation points 4 weeks ago 12 likes I'm 13 only for the fact that is a great Duo which means you got some soul in your!
Love it!!
When a black man tells you "Take your time" or "Sing your song son".. that's respect and giving props. Tom Jones is laying it down too.
It's a pity Wilson didn't maintain that respect after the performance.
THIS!!! Should really have more likes. Because in one sentence you have summed up a large part of our history! Imagine if this was someone's Doctoral thesis..I would bring in a post-it-note with this sentence and the link to the performance slam it on the professor's desk, then...drop the mic (yes, I brought a mic w/me for just this purpose. I know, I'm weird) and do the Milly Roc dance out of the office, whilst rapping: "I Milly Rock on any Block" LOLOL!
@@danieldickson8591 True from what I have heard
@@carolyndarley1045 LOL!! Hilarious!
Well said and very true.
Pickett and Little Richard did that in their duets with Sir Tom. Black artists don't give that ultimate sign of respect for no reason unless they mean it. With Jones they definitely meant it when they uttered the words, " Sing the song son/ sir".
That voice!! Wilson Pickett is the soul brother. Tom is at that level but Wilsons husky vocals is amazing.
This is a fantastic duet I grew up listening to their music, they're both great. Tom can sing any genre
This was beyond beautiful, it was outrageously great.
Yeah, Feeling this! Before my time but this is real music. Looked they were both enjoying it too.
Wilson Pickett is a Force of Nature-just on fire, glowing, gorgeous, intense, and bursting with talent.
Fantastic duo, made my isolated afternoon so groovy.... cheers boys
This was Beautiful. Why can’t we live like this With Peace & Harmony
I loved watching The Tom Jones Show. He had so many talented artists on, & the duets were always off the chain. Tom held his own with all of them, thoroughly into the music.
Such an amazing talent! Ive just found Tom Jones and cant get enough 😍
Tom Jones is a powerhouse, he can sing anything with anybody and sound amazing and makes it seem effortless, he truly is a LEGEND. For me Mr Jones has the best voice in the business and is the most incredible singer ever. What a performance
Oh yea tom is one of my favorite singers..
Cath McPhail second to only Elvis in my opinion
@@jpdude7274 Disagree completely to that, but we do not have to agree. Nobody surpass the diversity Tom has. Elvis wasn´t that versatile
Second only to elvis
Tom is the better singer and dancer of the two. I think most people know this but are too loyal to Elvis to admit it
What a pity this show was cancelled!
The Best Times, Best Music, Great Memories ..so thankful for these videos ☺️
The story of Wilson recording "Hey Jude" at Muscle Shoals is one of the best in rock n roll history!
