    Your apartment is amazingly well done. I love how clean you make everything. From mounting these to the ceiling to your PC setup, etc. Just all very well done.

    Thanks for the video, very helpful.
    have you got your hands on a another one of these yet? if so, have you tried the hands off or Fast roaming features?
    It’s the only thing that stops me from getting 3 AC Lite, I’m afraid that the switching between AP’s won’t be so fast and it would be better if go with a mesh Wi-Fi system.

    So I’m theory you only need the AP’s I can run 2 of them to my switch in my house. Then set them up on the app. I don’t need any of the UniFi gear like there gateway and all. This is great I’ll save a ton of money!

    Hi There! Perhaps you can help me. You said in the video that the Ubiquiti SSID has the same name than the SSID from the Asus Router. Right? How's that working for you? How can you tell when your cell phone is connected to the Ubiquiti AP and when to the Asus Router? Shouldn't it be more convinient to have a different SSID coming from the Ubiquiti AP? bye!

    Although it is a few years old, can you plase share your experience with using the same SSID and credentials on both the APs and Asus 88U. I have an Asus router and have added Unifi APs, but disabled wifi on the ASUS. Do you find any contentions between devices or ASUS getting flagged as rogue device?

      YetAnotherTechChannel if you search for apartment ap install you'll see there isn't a video show casing what you did. Yes it wouldn't match the entertainment of star wars but it still would help people who wanted to have their ap on the ceiling like you

    • @YetAnotherTechChannel
      @YetAnotherTechChannel  7 років тому +2

      But I'm not a construction worker - I bought an empty flat and paid contractors to run CAT6 cable before they did wooden floors, tiles, bathrooms, etc. If I moved into a completely furnished apartment I seriously doubt I'd go through the hassle involved with running a cable to the hallway. It's quite invasive and messy as you have to make grooves in the wall/ceiling to hide the cable...then you have to plaster the wall, sand the surface and paint it (probably repaint the entire wall).

    Hey there! What are you walls made from?
    We have concrete internal walls in my apartment and am considering if I should house my wifi access point in the hall way or in the attic. (The ceiling is just wooden.)

    • @YetAnotherTechChannel
      @YetAnotherTechChannel  6 років тому +3

      The wall separating the family room from the rest of the apartment is reinforced concrete (30 cm thick). Other partitioning walls are probably 14 cm thick and are made from hollow bricks.

    Eh these things are pretty darn simple for home use, the controller software doesn't need to be a computer that running all the time. Unless you want to get anal about wifi statistics ( which for home use why would you) The range on this and stability trumps my last net gear router.

    what did you do with your existing wireless router? turn off the wifi? trash it? i want to keep my existing and have the unifis work along with my existing wireless router, i thought this could handle it with the special software controller? sounds like i should just buy a $10 router and extend my existing network, buying 4 AC lites and then a poe switch (because no one wants 4 ac poe injectors cluttering their small patch panel) what am i doing wrong?

    So are you saying that to run the Ubiquiti UAP AC Lite, you have to have an always on computer (in your case, the raspberry pi) to use these on my network? Or is this only necessary with the initial setup? Also, could you give some details on your raspberry pi setup? I like that enclosure.

    • @YetAnotherTechChannel
      @YetAnotherTechChannel  7 років тому

      You need the UniFi Controller only for the initial setup and whenever you need to change some settings. I'm a big time geek so I have mine running 24/7 on that red RPi. It's basically the RPi type B and I picked up the enclosure at a local electronics store. I'm however considering moving the UniFi Controller to a Docker container on a DS216+ II Synology unit.

    • @christophercattie
      @christophercattie 6 років тому

      Correct - only if you want to manage the device. You can also buy a "key" which plugs into your LAN and then you don't need any computer. It is a little device that does all instead for around $60 (US).

    • @christophercattie
      @christophercattie 6 років тому

      Hello, that is incorrect. The key can be POE powered or via the micro USB port. I used for close to 3 months off the back of a Plain Jane Netgear 8 port switch. I moved it to a POE switch when I upgraded my other gear.

    • @christophercattie
      @christophercattie 6 років тому

      Yeah it is great because plenty of folks don't have POE switches.

    • @DDJWYD
      @DDJWYD 5 років тому

      That key requires 802.11af 48VDC 48W to work. I just implemented one in an office. It takes a little set up but you can load a UniFi backup on to it and can access it from anywhere

    • @aleJohnny
      @aleJohnny 6 років тому +1

      Unifi controller is what gives you access to the web interface. But, UniFi APs are independent, after you set up everything using the web interface, you don't need anymore.

  • @AyushK

    So this is basically useless if you have a furnished home. There is no way I can run a cable from the 2nd floor (where the router is) to the first floor (where I would put the UAP AC Lite)

    • @YetAnotherTechChannel
      @YetAnotherTechChannel  7 років тому +1

      I hear you - I don't think I myself would have deployed this AP in a fully furnished apartment... although I'm sure this is doable, but you'd have to talk to a contractor to figure out what is the best way to route the cable.

    The most important part, the setup is skimmed over.
    This is essentially a garbage product, just go online and see for how many people the Unifi Controller has malfunctioned on. Without it, you're toast...unlike every other wifi router, extender, AP out there this piece of garbage has to use java and badly written piece of code in order to do even the most menial programming setup.
    I am not surprised, the EdgeRouter was also glitching straight out of the box and until updated to latest firmware today, it wouldn't even keep the simplest config. Best to avoid this brand like the plaque.

      I do find the audio editing quite challenging. When I bought the X7 SoundBlaster and the EMU XM7 speakers I was hoping for a neutral audio reproduction... but they sound totally different from what others have connected to their computers and so I do most of the audio editing using headphones.

    • @YetAnotherTechChannel
      @YetAnotherTechChannel  5 років тому

      Thanks for your feedback. I'm Sorry you felt mislead by the title. In my defense - it says 'REVIEW', not 'how to setup Ubiquiti UAP'. Also, the description states what can you expect from the video and it says: "In this video I'm sharing my thoughts on using an enterprise grade wifi appliance at home, along with a consumer grade hardware."
      In the world of clickbait titles, silly thumbnails, begging for likes and asking for subs, I think my channel remains neutral and honest with potential viewers. I try my very best to put out quality content and believe it or not - it is hard work... and I never asked for thumbs up or sub. Anyways, have a nice day.
